Yeah, what would this team do with a PG that takes it strong to the hole and dishes out to open teamates? No way we need someone like that, right? You can argue all night long as to whether or not V-Span would have developed, or not, and no one can win that argument, but you can't argue that not one of the PGs on the Rockets is the answer, with the exception of Brooks.... All the others are flawed........let's see what Brooks can do.... DD
He doesn't solve our defensive problem, which is one of the biggest reason we are playing this poor. He may be able to stick with the quicker guards, but he has such a small body that guys can just overpower him to score. If you think our guard's defense are bad now, wait till Billups or B. Davis see Brooks on them and watch their eyes light up. But I definitely would play him over Mike James and possibly Luther Head.
This issue of guard play shouldn't even be an issue. These guys are big boys and they are veteran guards. They should know how to play the game. Aaron Brooks may or may not be the answer. I sure hate to think that a rookie will be our saviour at pt guard with nobody behind him. I think you have to bring him on slowly like Monta Ellis at Golden State. Point guards with the skillsets to run offenses and with good ball handling skills are a dime a dozen in the NBA. If Reggie Theus can make the statement about, "THE CALVERY IS COMING" and be referring to perpetual bench warmer Beno Udrih, then that makes a big statement about the quality of the guards in the NBA riding the end of the pine. Beno was laughed out of town in San Antonio pretty much the same way Vspan was laughed out of town in Houston. Now Beno is being praised in Sacremento as the second coming of Bibby and the fans are talking about how Bibby is now expendable. Would Rick Adleman have gotten Beno to play as well as Reggie Theus has gotten him to play? Who knows but Reggie is getting way more out of his players than we are. Here's the kicker, I don't care who we have at point guard. There are a ton of pt guards around with incredible skillsets. There are even point guards in the developmental leagues who could make an immediate impact. Darius Washington for instance has the ability to take over games and proved that in the preseason for the Spurs. There is absolutely no reason for all of our point guards to be performing this poorly. C'mon we have Head, Brooks, Francis, James, Alston. That's not a list of guards we would ever have said at the beginning of the season that would be weak. These guys can play better. All of them. Again, I am making the statement that when every single one of your players is posting career lows, that isn't just the players fault. That is the fault of everybody. The players, the coaches, the assistant coaches, they way they approach the game, attitude...everything! Bottom line is that the buck has to stop somewhere. We basically have the same team as last year minus Juwan Howard and the addition of several tried and tested veteran players. Again, no reason to be performing this poorly. The major change from last year to this year is the coaching staff. Logically, when you troubleshoot a problem, you think ok, what's changed from before that was working? Well this isn't very hard to figure out. Now think about this for a second. Where's our Beno Udrih? From Pop's doghouse to Reggie's starting guard. I say we have the horses but nobody to drive them.
I thought Allen Iversion was the answer? I tried to tell the Rockets that we should have traded anyone and everyone on the team other than Yao and Tmac to get him. But noooooooooooooooooooo, he can't exist with other scorers! Aaron should get a chance, but I doubt he will be our new Sam Cassell. But Im all for giving him a shot. At least his shooting should be better. We will just have to help him on defense more.
Brooks is a defensive liability and, because of his size and weight, is a candidate for injury early and often -- very like T.J. Ford. However, he should be no more of a defensive liability than Rafer Alston and certainly has a reputation for scoring more. Give him a shot -- nothing else is working.
I think if we had Iverson that he'd be playing a lot like Francis right now and averaging his own career lows.
Do you mean because of our coach or what? Do you think Steve would be playing better if he was with Denver? (just curious)
I'm just talking about trends here. Which Rocket player is averaging his career best right now who's played more than 2 years in the NBA? If Iverson were here, I think he'd fall right into the same trend as the other players.
Hmm, I see it didn't take long for you to fall off the wagon especially since you hold JVG responsible for what happened last year. Now that he's gone, everything was supposed to be OK, right? After all, isn't Rick Adelman a TRUE basketball coach who forgot more about offense than JVG ever knew? With him as the head coach, weren't we a shoo-in for the WCF next years? You are a good fellow and all that but your one major flaw is that you keep looking for the simple solution to the Rocket's problems. You continue to believe that "magical" solution to their problems at the PG position or the PF position is a guy sitting at the end of the bench who's not getting playtime because the head coach is an idiot. Last year with you it was a season-long crusade against JVG over Spanoullis. This year, I've seen your voice added to the chorus that wanted Rafer Alston publicly tarred, feathered and run out of town on a rail. You've also chimed in the clamor for "The Franchise!" to bring back those thrilling days of yesteryear of SF3 basketball (which he most certainly did last night...). Now you want Brooks to be the new savior or failing that, make a trade that will rescue this team. I like Aaron Brooks. I like his attitude and I like his speed and I like his skills. But I don't like his height and in the West, you are asking him to go up against bigger, stronger PGs more experienced PGs and that is a recipe for disaster. Did you not see him guarding Devon Harris last night? Harris is what I'd term a run of the mill PG in terms of size at 6-3 and yet he looked like he had a good 4-5" on Brooks. And it doesn't get any easier if you compare him to the other guards around the West: Tony Parker - 6-2 Chris Paul - 6-0 Steve Nash - 6-3 Deron Williams - 6-3 There's also the little matter of just how many losses you are prepared to accept while Brooks learns on the job. And what if those losses cost them playoff seeding or worse, land them back into the NBA lotto? Would that make you happy? After all, they won 52 games last year and that wasn't good enough for you so what exactly is good enough? But wait! Morey can always make a trade that can deliver the player that they need, right? The GMs at the other teams are basically idiots so we'll be able to unload our trash onto them, right? Wrong! If the guys on your list: Francis James Bonzi Battier Luther Snyder Novak Rafer Hayes Deke Landry can't get it done here, please explain why some other team will be willing to not only trade for one or more of them but will give you back the kind of player that you feel this team so desperately needs right now. I must have missed the part where Carroll Dawson was cloned and his clones became the GM at other NBA teams. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but the world just doesn't work that way. There will be no magical trades - we are stuck with this team like it or not. It's up all of those players that you were cheering during the summer to step up and start playing basketball. You wanted JVG gone and you got your wish. But when he left he took with him this team's defensive intensity and drive to win. Now you want most of the roster gone as well. Again, you keep looking for simplistic answers to a complicated situation that has been years in the making (7 to be exact). But hey, you can always do what Uncle Les does when this happens: You can ALWAYS blame the head coach. After all, it's worked just fine for him twice before...
I can't believe some of you are actually comparing Aaron Brooks to Chris Paul just because they are both midgets. Aaron Brooks is no where near as good as Chris Paul... not even close.
No one can win the argument? That's because there is no argument. I can come to your house and have my dog take a dump on your front lawn. Now, there is a chance that the turd will magically transmute into gold. We can's say for certain, and no one can win the argument! But the fact is all you have is pile of crap. Likewise, the simple fact is that the guy was a complete NBA failure and he knew it, which is why he quit. End of discussion.
Uhhhhh....no, I never said that he was better, all I have ever said was that JVG was not the answer. Adelman may not be either, but for sure JVG isn't. No, again you are leaping to conclusions and putting words in my mouth....PG is and always has been the team's most GLARING weakness. I am saying if none of the other PGs on the roster are getting it done, then try someone else..........and if Adelman is just as dumb as JVG and fails to do that, I will want him run out of town on rails too... It is maddening how people think that when you want a player to at least get a look that it means to play him EXCLUSIVELY.....I mean really, are people that dumb? I would hope that folks can figure out that what I am saying is to give him some time to find out if he can help, and if he does well extend his minutes...what is so bad about that? Yes he is short, and that may mean he can't ever make it, but right now.... Alston sucks James sucks Francis sucks Luther sucks Why the hell not give everyone a chance? Yes, because other teams never give up on players that would help in a different situation, right? The team is still in the top 5 defensively, the problem is that the team is only half assed trying to run the new system, what good is running the break if no one gets out and runs. When is the last time you saw Tmac, Battier, Alston, or Hayes run out on a break on a Yao rebound? Were the Celtics with Larry Bird all that fast? Nope, but they got out and run and got early offense.....it is a matter of committment, and right now this team is in limbo, they think they WANT to run but aren't making the effort to do so.... You can say whatever you want, but please stop making leaps of logic into what I have been saying. 1. I wanted JVG gone - still do....YIPPEEEE...let him die...he is gone. 2. PG has been the biggest problem on the team - the lack of a 2nd penetrating player 3. Jury is out on Adelman -but he needs time to give it a go 4. V-Span would have been a major contributor this year - too bad he whined his way out. 5. If none of the players are working, try someone else. DD
In your OPINION, that is it, in my opinion he needed time to develop, and someone to give him a chance to learn from his mistakes without making up BS quotes to him in the media to make him look bad. Que cera cera... DD
I have the sneaking suspicion that Aaron Brooks will come out and play hard and well for a few series and then the other NBA guards will figure him out and then poof, we will be calling for his head too. Remember this is the guy who couldn't make a shot in the preseason. Maybe he'll come out and prove me wrong. I hope so but I'm not holding my breathe.
It has nothing to do with opinion - it is a simple fact that the b**** was the worst player on the team and not good enough to stay in the NBA. The b**** freaking admitted it in those rdiculous interviews the b**** gave after the season? The b**** was the 13th man off the bench, the worst player on the team, and the b**** tried to get the 2nd or 3rd best defensive team in the NBA to SWITCH TO ZONE, because he couldn't defend NBA players. I still find that incredible that 1. the b**** would do that, and 2. the b**** was dumb enough to admit it as if it's supposed to repair his image. The fact that you are still hanging on the b****'s jock and this time, inventing a pretend negative PR campaign against the b**** as the reason for his downfall is kind of amusing, but I feel like I am abusing a child.
Still classy as always Sammy....typical of you not to see potential in a player. And always stating your OPINION as fact....lame...lame lame... And I say again, V-Span had a better shooting percentage inside the 3pt line that Rafer Alston. You don't ask a midrange player to shoot 3pters that is bad coaching. Oh well, fun to bring up old tired V-Span arguments huh...kind of like all the wasted space JVG threads. Both are gone......so what now? DD
Kinda had to laugh at that one. With Vmac's greatest jock supporter's logic though, if he can discuss it enough and get other people to discuss it enough (even though most of the replies will be how asinine his comments are), that pile of turd WILL turn into gold. Or, that we didn't stare at it long enough to give it a chance turn into gold. Gotta love armchair PGs who think they have all of the solutions. Instead of correctly saying "I think Aaron Brooks should get a shot cause our other PGs aren't getting the job done AND I must add I am speaking from an uninformed POV and just commenting from a frustrated fan that makes alot of knee jerk comments" we get the usual "I think Aaron Brooks needs a shot bacause our other PGs aren't getting the job done and Aaron could be the 2nd coming of Chris Paul and should be a Tony Parker clone since both were late 1rst rnd pick, seriously he is the solution to our problems, please do it or I'll will always harp on the board that my suggestion is correct because it wasn't tried therefore wasn't proven that I was flat out wrong so I must be right, I know that's r****ded logic but well...it's me DaDakota that we are talking about, oh, and I can't post a thread without sniffing the greek TMac's jocks"
