It's very nice to hear Rafer said this after the game, I think the team chemistry is really good now. "I took over most of the point guard duties to take the pressure off him," Alston said. "Plus, to me, he's a better scorer than I am. I try to push him over to the shooting guard spot and let him come off in an attack mode. Down the stretch, I try to control the team. He's quick enough to blow by everybody."
If ya need as scoring guard, add Aaron Brooks to your Fantasy lineups quick. I have a feeling he's going to be getting a lot more playing time.
damn, that took some major balls, nice....i have noticed that evetytime AB comes in, he brings in more energy and increases the tempo of the game. How will it work out with TMac back in? i don't know, but hopefully it will work out and AB continues to get playing time
Aaron Brooks is the perfect complement to Yao Ming. His speed fits Yao perfectly. Plus he seems to be the only one who can hit the 3 consistently.
sorry, i have to give some love to our man brooks. he made the front page of nba.com today (partly because we're playing on nbatv tonight...). glad to see him get some attention.
That's what I was thinking. It was a great game, but it's only 1 game. Please see other 1 game greats, i.e. Spanoulis, Cato, Delk, etc. You have to produce consistently to be the answer. And no props to DD. He guesses everything, and is wrong much more often than right. Anyone can do that. I hereby predict that one of these players will be ROY for 07/08: Portland Trail Blazers Greg Oden, Center, Ohio State Seattle SuperSonics Kevin Durant, Forward, Texas Atlanta Hawks Al Horford, Forward/Center, Florida Memphis Grizzlies Mike Conley Jr., Guard, Ohio State Boston Celtics Jeff Green, Forward, Georgetown (to Seattle) Milwaukee Bucks Yi Jianlian, Forward, China Minnesota Timberwolves Corey Brewer, Forward, Florida Charlotte Bobcats Brandan Wright, Forward, North Carolina (to Golden State) Chicago (from New York) Joakim Noah, Forward/Center, Florida Sacramento Kings Spencer Hawes, Center, Washington Atlanta Hawks (from Indiana) Acie Law IV, Guard, Texas A&M Philadelphia 76ers Thaddeus Young, Forward, Georgia Tech New Orleans Hornets Julian Wright, Forward, Kansas Los Angeles Clippers Al Thornton, Forward, Florida State Detroit Pistons (from Orlando) Rodney Stuckey, Guard, Eastern Washington Washington Wizards Nick Young, Guard/Forward, Southern California New Jersey Nets Sean Williams, Forward/Center, Boston College Golden State Warriors Marco Belinelli, Guard, Italy Los Angeles Lakers Javaris Crittenton, Guard, Georgia Tech Miami Heat Jason Smith, Forward/Center, Colorado State (to Philadelphia) Philadelphia 76ers (from Denver) Daequan Cook, Guard, Ohio State (to Miami) Charlotte Bobcats (from Toronto) Jared Dudley, Forward, Boston College New York Knicks (from Chicago) Wilson Chandler, Forward, DePaul Phoenix Suns (from Cleveland) Rudy Fernandez, Guard, Spain (to Portland) Utah Jazz Morris Almond, Guard, Rice Houston Rockets Aaron Brooks, Guard, Oregon Detroit Pistons Arron Afflalo, Guard, UCLA San Antonio Spurs Tiago Splitter, Forward, Brazil Phoenix Suns Alando Tucker, Forward, Wisconsin Philadelphia 76ers (from Dallas) Petteri Koponen, Guard, Finland (to Portland) or Luis Scola.
A pure canard, I don't guess, I analyze and put out my opinion to drive discussion or Rockets talk which can certainly be wrong at times. I do post a lot though, so I can see how some people get the misconception that I guess about everything. As someone says it, then it gathers steam and becomes legend. Sort of like Iraq having a part in the bombing of the twin towers, if you say it enough people believe it. But, to be fair I am wrong occasionally, Dan Langhi is one glaring intance (There is still time Dan..make a comeback ), but overall....I am about 93.8% right. I am just happy that Brooks is playing well and it energized the Rockets, don't join the hater crowd Smooth...you are better than that. And ROY will be Kevin Durant. (Big stretch huh?) Make that 93.9% after KD wins. DD
Yao has bad games too. Typically though they leave him in and he heats up and starts kicking butt in the second half. By contrast Brooks only got 16 minutes.
just because someone is struggling doesnt mean they'll miraculously turn it around as they keep playing. by that logic, why not let mike james jack up as many shot as he wants since he'll produce more with more minutes? brooks is a rookie and he'll have his bad games. it's too soon to expect him to be starting or be a consistent contributor.
Obviously it depends on the player, but I would argue that almost anyone will improve with more minutes on the floor. That includes Mike James, although there's a question there as to whether James being on the floor actually improves the team. There's a secondary issue with Brooks: he's a rookie. More minutes are going to have an even greater effect on him as he adjusts to the league. At this point I'd argue that the future, Brooks and Scola, should be seeing at least 20 minutes a game.
I had my dvr set to the wrong channel, so I only got to watch a little more than the last quarter. It didn't matter that Brooks didn't score last night. He made a big contribution at the end of the game when Wash was turned up the defensive pressure. We had a couple of turnovers in a row, including a basic mistake by Rafer. Brooks came in and immediately took pressure off Rafer by helping handle the ball. He also got to a loose ball that no one else could have gotten to and flipped it over to Rafer to maintain possession. The situation was ripe for another Rocket meltdown. Negating the defensive pressure at that point in the game was a huge contribution.
Has Brooks even made an impact during the 15 game winning streak? He's the 3rd best rookie on this team, and not the answer. Landry and Scola getting some run though. Had to rehash this, since DD thinks guessing all permutations makes him some sort of basketball guru instead of an idiot.
Brooks is a shoot first guard. Only problem is that Brooks cannot finish if his life depended on it. It's Brick city when Brooks is out there.
I don't think it's fair to judge a rookie PG. PG is the hardest position to play in the NBA. I don't have the stats to back me up, but I would guess among rookies who play significant minutes, the biggest improvement in production from year 1 to year 2 is in PGs. He may still turn into a star, as I know he is a much better shooter than we're seeing in games right now. It's kinda like Novak when he played as a rookie. He couldn't make a shot to save his life, but now I'd say he's pretty reliable when left open.
