We have too many scarecrows (ie no brain), which cannot run Ricks offense. Also they are trapped in the closet with JVG walk it up system. Plus nobody on offense except Bonzi can blow by their man and create a mismatch.

Give AB a shot, he can't do any worse than getting murder by better teams.

Aaron Brooks could provide some sizzle to the Rockets' lethargic offense. Brooks produced the Rockets' lone fast-break basket of the second half against the Mavericks on Saturday after being summoned from the bench during garbage time

    Rockets contemplate backcourt changes
Adelman seeks someone to ignite lethargic fast break

Rockets coach Rick Adelman openly discussed the possibility of throwing rookie point guard Aaron Brooks into the fray on Saturday night against the Dallas Mavericks, a move that would have signaled Adelman's latest attempt to ignite his team's sluggish backcourt.

With starting point guard Rafer Alston, who has had his own issues shifting the Rockets' offense out of neutral, set to miss his third game with a sore groin, perhaps the quicksilver Brooks could provide some sizzle to a lethargic offense. Brooks produced the Rockets' lone fast-break basket of the second half after being summoned from the bench during garbage time.

    On the bottom
The Rockets began the night last in the NBA in fast-break points, so when their swiftest player bumped their total against Dallas to seven points with 44.7 seconds left, it exemplified the Rockets' struggles to earn easy baskets in transition.

"I did not expect it to be as difficult as it has been," Adelman said. "We don't get a lot of easy baskets. Guys get used to playing a certain way sometimes, and it takes awhile to break that. And frankly, we've shot it so poorly as a group that it's even more glaring.

"But I think the more opportunities you get to push the ball and get an easy basket here or there just helps you in the long run. It's something that we have to keep working at."

But who will spearhead the Rockets' push to improve upon their average of 7.5 fast-break points per game? Alston is their best pace-setter and distributor in the open court, and since Brooks has yet to gain Adelman's trust, getting the Rockets running falls on Steve Francis, Mike James and Luther Head.

"We don't really focus on that," Francis said of creating transition opportunities. "That's something that we need to do: try to get some easy baskets."

Given the limitations of his options, Adelman keeps pushing buttons, seeking a solution.

"You have to find people that are going to step up and give you something," Adelman said.

"It's everybody on the team accepting that responsibility; it's just not the guys you put in. From Tracy (McGrady) to Yao (Ming), we all have to look at ourselves and figure out what can we do better, and that's my job: to try and figure that out."

    Consistency fleeting
But the accumulation of changes, from the offseason roster overhaul to the Alston injury that initiated a shuffle in the backcourt rotation, has made establishing consistency the Rockets' most arduous task.

Before that day when the Rockets feel confident enough to accelerate tempo and aggressively pursue transition baskets, they have to discover a means to consistently execute in their halfcourt sets.

"We're trying to find some consistency right now," forward Shane Battier said. "We can't get caught up in trying to compare to other teams right now. We're trying to establish ourselves and figure out who we are."

Starting Aaron shows how poor Francis and James have been, more than anything.

We just hired 2 guys who were supposed to supplant Rafer in the rotation.

Now they are being supplanted by a 5'8" rookie!! LMAO!

    Is Morey still a genius?

No argument from me. They have all sucked so badly that none of them deserve to start. Aaron gets his chance. I hope this lights a fire under the other guards so they start practicing their shot.

Aaron deserves a lot more PT than he has recieved, and deserves some time next to Yao and T-Mac to see just how good a fit he really is. he is a very good shooter, good slasher, runs the break well, and he is a pretty feisty defensive player.

My only concern with him is his size against the likes of Baron Davis and Jason Kidd, who will take advantage of his size and take him in the post.

But, with everyone else sucking so bad, he deserves a chance.

I agree with everything you said, but also wanted to point out that Aaron just needs to add 10-15 pounds of bulk, which would put him basically exactly the same size as Chris Paul and almost as big as A.I.

The chemistry might blow up... I'd like to see those guys play together... I was hoping that SF/TMac/Yao would have a special playing relationship, but so far no go... We need an Offensive big three to go with the matador D.

    It is already too late.

I agree that Brooks needs to get his shot and I was excited about his play since the summer league (see my ID) but this season is a lost cause.

There are no rotation changes or likely trades that will change that fact. This franchise needs to start planning now for next year. This includes Adelman and the coaching staff determining which players fit this system and relaying those findings to Morey.

Morey's responsibility will be to take that information and look to make moves that will allow Adelman to successfully implement his system and improve this team for next season and beyond.

Les just needs to sit back and not make any basketball decisions. Let people that understand the game make those decisions.

I hate to sound like a pessimist but I am just being a realist. It is your choice to either continue believing in the impossible or accept reality.

This is so hilarious, Yet so true! I think AB has the potential of being a poor mans version if Chris Paul. We just have to be patient with him. MJ and SF are over the hill

Then double or play zone if they try to exploit the mismatch! Teams to this to Yao almost every night after he gets hot. This teams just needs to bring intensity on Defense. How does Chris Paul do it? Is he not just an inch or 2 taller than AB?

    Aaron Brooks, ITS TIME!!!!

Not really because wouldn't that still leave him about 3-4 inches shorter than Paul who's listed at 6-0?

3-4 inches shorter? Aaron Brooks isn't Nate Robinson.

Aaron Brooks measure 5'10.5'' barefoot at the pre-draft camp with a 7'10'' standing reach and a 6'4'' wingspan.

Chris Paul measured 5'11.75'' barefoot with a 7'9'' standing reach and a 6'4.25'' wingspan.

Paul has about an inch on him. The bigger difference is the 15-20 pounds Paul has on him. Brooks has a slight edge in vertical as well (39.5'' to 38.5'').

For what it's worth, Nate Robinson measured 5'7.75'' barefoot with a 7'7.75'' standing reach and a 6'1'' wingspan.
