Sup hurricane buddies? I'm staying, Westbury area. Hopefully my dad and brother will leave Pearland and at least come here. But he's stubborn. I'm not sure if the rest of my family has made it to Conroe or if my partner and her grandmother have made it to SA.
What's going to happen to the people who run our of gas or otherwise are stuck on the freeway when the hurricane hits?
I've got work this morning at 10am. I've got to go from 290 and Huffmeister to the Antoine 34th exit. I've seen the traffic cams and there's no way i can sit through that. Does anyone know an alternative route. Is hempstead highway backed up? Any help is greatly appreciated.
I live in NW Houston Houston and will ride it out. Along with me are my wife, son, daughter, and future son-in-law. We might go down the street and stay with my brother, because we have a lot of windows. I have (4) 6 gallon carboys full of water for the toilet in the event the water shuts off. We have enough food for a week, water for maybe 3-5 days (if the water gets shut off). I'm concerned that the shingles on my roof are going to get blown off. I hope the best for everyone that has to bunker down, like us. We wouldn't have been been able to leave soon enough, due to school and work. We're all off through the weekend now though.
Well, my goal for riding out the storm in Friendswood (has manditory evacuation) has been twarted by a bi-partisan push from all sides of my family. My father is coming to pick me up in about an hour to head to Texarkana to stay with some extended family... and threatened violence if I didn't go, lol.
I tried to leave from Sugar Land at 4:00 AM today to go to San Antonio. After 2 hrs of gridlock traffic I made it about 3 miles past the prison on the Grand Parkway. I was concerned about running out of gas down the road, so I turned around and decided to stick it out in SL. Houston Native
similar story - tried to leave at 6 am from sugar land. took us an hour to go 1.5 miles. decided to turn around and stick it out. the superstitious side me of thinks houston has earned some good karma over the past month from helping out katrina victims. i think the rita will turn east and make landfall elsewhere (probably beaumont/port arthur)
Sonny - staying put... got water, food, batteries, both cars are full, and gun/ammunition. Boarded up most of the windows... Spring, TX
