You guys please stay safe... I worry about you. Glad we have this list; some of us might also be using it as a prayer list if you don't mind.
As of now I'm staying here. My wife and I are going to a friends house at I10 and Durham. The rest of my fam lives in Deer Park and they are going to leave early in the morning to Austin to stay with some extended family.
Staying in Beaumont and praying this northward turn holds off for a little longer. That said, if it surprises and starts aiming a little to the east of Galveston, I might make a last minute change... but not anticipating it right now.
I'll be riding this storm out here in Sugar Land with my parents and brother. I am going to try to take some before and after pictures and post them on the board to show the damage that the hurricane did. Best of luck to everyone.
Wow...seems my mother and grandmother (she lives in Spring Branch) could not get very far at all trying to get out of town (and they KNOW the back roads too) so they had to turn back to her house. They saw stranded cars on the side of the road that had run out of gas. So they're heading back here now. And my gf said Hwy 6 out in Mo City is bumper to bumper. So gl to you all trying to get out.
Forgot to say that I also went through the last Cat 5 hurricane that hit the US--Hurricane Andrew in Miami, Florida. I'm hearing it will probably weaken down to a Cat. 4 before it hits here, but nevertheless there will be some strong winds for this entire area. Best of luck to all, stay SAFE.
I can't imagine how hard my heart will be beating with this b**** going through during the middle of the night. Storms at night suck.
I was going to ride it out, but changed my mind about an hour ago. I live in Stafford, but have a house in Sugar Land and Spring Branch that I hope doesn't blow away. For everyone staying, if you can leave, you should leave. I figured if I sat home and rode it out, and nothing happens, I can be relieved about it. If I stay and something happens, well, I won't be sitting wet in the dark, with my d*ck in my hand. Good luck to all of you guys staying.
I was thinking about heading East to Lake Charles but some local politician said that was pretty much a stupid idea to head that direction. I will stay most likely at my upstairs unit (duplex -> house is decades old so hopefully it puts up a good fight ) unless Mayor White tells residents of Southwest Houston that there is mandatory evacuation (near Rice University/ Medical Center).
Well, I'm riding it through over in Sugar Land also. With my grandmother here in the house, kinda hard to go anywhere. Trying to get any info I can on what I need to do tomorrow to keep safe. Don't really know what else to do at the moment, and reading all this news is getting me worried.
I heard some hopefully encouraging news on Channel 2 that the High pressure system is already starting to break down which would allow Rita to possibly make the turn much sooner than expected. Houston could dodge a huge bullet by being on the west side of the storm at landfall.
Man i was just watching Ch2 and Billingsly scared the hell out of me. He's been doing that a lot lately!
Riding it out in Stafford as well. Leaving right now is a chancy situation with traffic and lack of gas... Good luck to everyone. My dad and I might just cannablize the fence to get some wood.
Hurricane party! Ridin Ridin Ridin Ridin Ridin. Rice Village, represent. Wife and Kids are gonzo. Just me n' the cats. Party hatz for the cats! I hate traffic. I can't leave, now.
I'm in Cypress and will be riding it out with the wife, kids, mother in law, grandmother in law, grandmother, 2 dogs, a cat and my friends from down the street. I have to go pick my grandma up in Oak Forest tomorrow morning and may end up bringing back a couple sisters and their kids. Glad I have a lot of space.
