No... They paid him $5 million for what will happen in the next couple of months. For the ability to have him as a non guaranteed contract. Still to be determined if it's worth it!
I liked Papa but he just wasn't ready to play meaningful minutes on a contending team. His energy and hustle were appreciated and his passing ability is fantastic and a huge +. With that said, if he wants to be successful in the NBA he's got to up his 3 and be a more creative 3-D guy.
One relevant question is this: Who else could the team have signed with the MLE at that point in the summer?
I imagine that question will be more relevant after we see what we do with KPap's non-guaranteed contract.
Agreed. Papa has some nice skills but he is too weak in other areas of his game and that cancels out the good things he brings to the table or worse yet makes him an overall minus.
I would be the first one to want Ty Lawson, but.... where are these rumors coming from? This is all pure specualtion, but since this option is picked up... I expect a fairly small deal to occur. Hope its bigger though.
The most prominent alternate "full MLE" candidate at the time was Shawn Marion. He didn't work out so well this season, and there was no way in hell Houston was getting a non-guaranteed second year.
The Ty Lawson rumors probably come from the widely circulating rumor that Denver is trying to change the roster and everyone is available combined with the TMZ video of Harden and Lawson hanging outside a club a few weeks ago.
Aminu. In fact, Dallas signed him up for much cheaper. Morey passed up on him. Probably didn't even consider him.
Prigs is likely to retire from the NBA and play a farewell year in Spain. So the partially guaranteed amount on his contract could end up being $0 after negotiations. KPap + Prigs = potentially fully unguaranteed contracts that can be bundled, ie better than a TPE.
Thanks for all the inside information you're giving us, really appreciated. And nice to hear you're giving Bima a spotlight in NBA circles.
