I must have missed that while forwarding the game, but I just saw that in the highlights. Yeah, that ball was IN at the 60th minute, and Kaka was robbed but, nonetheless, the attack was just unstoppable... U.S. had a good chance but missed it. "We're at the point where don't want respect, we want a win and there's no guarantee we ever get back to a final game like this, so it's disappointing." Stop being pessimistic... take this momentum and use it.
It's actually the opposite....it would be rude to the rest of the board to not deflate some middle-aged couch potato wannabe acting like he is god's gift to playing/scouting/coaching/GM'ing in basketball/football/baseball/hockey/soccer...clearly you are not. It saves them the trouble.
Hey again, it is not about the topic but you attacking a poster...... I am not acting like anything....just frustrated with the USA's choke job, you however are acting like something... Feel free to talk about the game Sam, or are you just here to play the rude internet faux tough guy...... DD
Have to admit that it was a great game, fun all the way to the end. THe US did not 'fail', actually they did better than anyone really expected, they weren't even supposed to be in the finals. I was a little sad I could not see my dream matchup, SPAIN vs. BRAZIL, but this game did not disappoint. I do think the US coach made a mistake by not playing EVERYONE back, he kept two guys too far up front, it was not needed.
OK - I'll say what I said before and what 15 other posters already said - trying to play run and gun against a vastly superior team of runners and gunners is not advisable - and in fact NOT trying to play run and gun is how the US established a lead (and how many teams have been successful in the past), notwithstanding your 360 experience. There's a reason why teams like Brasil have not won every single tournament ever, and it's not because teams tried to beat them at their own game.
I never said RUN and GUN...I said attack their feet, play aggressive, I was TALKING ABOUT DEFENSE !!!! And then when you GET the ball, ATTACK.... DD
Actually when your up 2-0, most important thing is to keep possesion of the ball, and let the other team chase it so you can create space and holes to attack. Simply attacking and giving up the ball right away after you get it is not a good idea when your leading. To score, you need the ball, so best thing is to keep the ball so the other team can't score.
You make it sound so easy, the fact is Brazil was playing pressure football, they were forcing you guys to move the ball, a team has to be really good to be able to keep possession under these circumstances. You are not giving Brazil enough credit, they kept on massive pressure after the first goal, its what led to your second goal, eventually they came back because your coach did not make the right adjustments. He should have asked players to play further back.
Football isn't difficult, compared to American Football or Basketball, its a simple game, simple strategy. Brazil didn't have the choice, they needed to press USA. They have credit for coming back and scoring 3 goals in one half, which was brilliant. But just like USA at the beginning of the game, they had nothing to lose. When USA was leading, they started realizing that they were in a position were they had something to loose, while when they entered the game, they just went in there with a now-or-never attitude.
lol thats a pretty childish reaction for a man of your age DD.. Nice answer, just proves your are like people you dislike on this board.
EXACTLY...that was my point, they should have continued to play the same way regardless, they choked. DD
good effort from our guys. should have survived somehow but Brazil is always the favorite in any tournament i think we earned a lot of respect this week. they know now that they can play world-class soccer and hopefully we can get hot next summer when it really counts
I'm not sure if you think you really are a good tactician or not. Regardless, there's a reason Brazil has more trophies than we do. Keeping possession is not as easy on the international level as it is on your kid's U-7 team especially against a team with the talent of Brazil.
DD, if they had continued to play the same way they did (and they did for a good chunk of the second half) they still would of lost. That onslaught pressure by Brazil would of still been to much. The score really should of been 4-2 Brazil. They were robbed in that one play where the ball had clearly hit the inside of the top bar and Howard was clearly inside the goal. I just don't think you are giving credit to the opposition.
No team can do what the Americans did in the first 45 for the entire match. None. Brazil has a plethora of talent, so it's easier for them to have the pace they do, but even they couldn't hold it for 90. The difference between Brazil and the US is that they capitalized when opportunities came. It wasn't the pressure that crushed the US, it was the sole fact that the Americans spent their energy in the first 45 and Brazil in the 2nd. We need a midfielder with endurance, hmm, like Adu, it'd be great if he played for us. Adu would have been a nice sub in for Lando, which in turn could have been the spark needed to hold and push the lead.
