I am just happy they came out and played aggressive futbol, I am tired of them laying back, be aggressive, be forceful and live with the result. DD
I did watch. We did not outplay them when we had 11. We played fastbreak soccer...which almost never works on this stage. It got worse when we went shorthanded. Yesterday and the game against Italy were 2 completely different things. Yesterday, they played with a purpose. Passes and runs had a purpose. Against Italy, passes were to get out of pressure, but not to do any damage. They skipped the midfield entirely, trying to spring Altidore on his own against a good Italy defense. We might have gotten a better result had Clark not gotten that horrible card. He might have been the one to not let Rossi tee up from 30 yards on the run. But the tactics in that game were simply terrible. We were not playing to win. We were playing not to lose. Yesterday, they played to win. Hopefully, B. Bradley realizes this Wednesday and tells his team that there is nothing to lose. Take chances and go for the win.
I gave up on the USA after they lost to Italy in a game which they could have won. To me it is ridiculous the US gets to move on when it lost to Italy, but I'm happy they did. You never know what might happen against Spain. It would seem more probable that we would beat Spain, then it was for the US to get here.
Wow, it's been like ages since La Liga was on ESPN. I think maybe 2000 or thereabouts was the last time. I'm still ticked FSC got the rights to the Champions League as I felt it got great exposure on ESPN.
My country is Mexico. My mother country is Eshpaña, ala, ala, just like the U.S.'s mother country is England... no? I'm putting my head on the line here, but I will put some money down that U.S.A. will score at least 2 goles on España. Book it again.
Terrible news about fox soccer channel getting the champions league. The production on everything they play is horrible.
I'm just glad that soccer will get just that much more exposure in the USA now that we've moved on. I think people in this country are just so close-minded and averse to the sport simply because they feel like it's "un-American". If the USA can continue to progress on the international stage, hopefully that stigma will go away. As for the next game, the US really has it's hands full with Spain, but this game isn't impossible. If they watch film from the Iraq-Spain game, they will see how Iraq kept Spain from attacking in their comfortable spots, and forced them to make plays they weren't used to. It's going to be a tough task, and chances are it won't happen.....but this is why soccer is great. Heart and emotion play very important parts on the pitch.
http://soccernet.espn.go.com/news/story?id=656557&sec=england&cc=5901 ESPN has won the rights to broadcast 46 live Premier League matches in the United Kingdom for the 2009-10 season, and has also been awarded a contract for the 2010-13 seasons. The sports broadcaster, parent company of Soccernet, picked up both 23-match packages on offer in Monday's auction. ESPN's 46 live games will be split between Saturday evenings and Monday nights in the coming season. For the three seasons from 2010-11 to 2012-13 ESPN has the rights to a single package of 23 matches previously awarded to Setanta. The Premier League ended their association with Setanta on Friday after they failed to meet a final deadline over a £30m payment which had been due this month. Setanta was also stripped of its Scottish Premier League contract on Monday.
I read that Setanta USA's deal with the EPL isn't affected by this so it's just the UK broadcast rights I think.
All of FOX Sports is a sham. It doesn't matter if the production is local or national; it's all dimly-lit, unattractive presentation.
Spain does have a reputation of choking in the elimination round. I think that the U.S. has a chance. A victory against world No. 1 would be a great morale boost for the upcoming world cup qualifying games.
Why is it ridiculous? Italy lost to Egypt. Wouldn't they then have a claim? What is ridiculous is the defending World Cup champions getting embarrassed like that in consecutive games.
I wouldn't go that far. As much as I'm not a fan of FSC getting the Champions League, I think back to how difficult it was to watch a match in the States before Fox Sports World came about and I'm very grateful. I remember when it was just one EPL match a week, on mondays on ESPN2. I'm sure the older heads on this forum can go back further than that and remember when there wasn't even any coverage.
Fox Soccer is putting out an HD channel starting in January so you'll get to see the knockout stages of the UCL in HD. They're also looking for new announcers so don't expect you'll be hearing Max Bretos and Christopher Sullivan.
