same as eto and player option, a team option needs the team to exercise the option to keep the player, non guaranteed needs the team to waive the player to end it. In a practical sense, nothing, it's really just a case of action to end the contract or action to keep the contract.
A contract with an option in the following season after the trade deadline can't be traded. Unguaranteed contracts aren't restricted in this way.

I'd like to see him back in Houston. He shut down Durant and was arguably our most consistent shooter in the playoffs. Wish him the best
Hate to lose Garcia and I wish him nothing but the best as he was a pleasure to watch this yr. Go look up the word "professional" and you'll see his picture!!
Aren't we llowed to re-sign him? I think the Spurs do it all the time. Id like to keep him. I know we can't afford him at $6M, but at $2M or $3M for a 4 or 5 year deal? Outside shot and defense are last to go. I thinkhe woul ma a good role player on a championship team.
What Non-guaranteed just means to us is that the team has the ability to trade them up until the deadline for picking up their option for the next year. The Rockets setup their contracts that way for a reason. They like to go into every draft night with as much amunition as possible for trades. Just look back at the contracts of Dalembert, and Brad Miller. The Rockets are very opportunistic leading up to draft night to use those contracts (of players they AREN'T bringing back anyways) to their advantage.
Yes, but Garcia is going to have to wait until after the Rockets go through the free agency process with all of their high level targets. More than likely Garcia will get an offer before then that is too good to pass up on. Just look at last year with Marcus Camby and the year before that with Chuck Hayes as an example of a veteran players that are asked to wait.
I can't imagine the Lakers going after Garcia, he's a veteran presence that can defend and shoot, you don't realistically want him playing more than 15-20 mins a game over the course of a season. The Lakers have more than enough old.
The gesture by Morey in cutting early is fairer than doing it at the last moment, which often has been the case. It also gives Cisco more time to work out an alternative that might be better for him. And like said by many, there is the possibility he might be resigned for less.
As a tax paying team, The Lakers will only have the lower mid-level to offer Garcia at the most unless they completely gut their team, and use the amnesty on one of their high paid stars. The Rockets would almost certainly verbally commit now to Garcia with the lower mid level after they make their free agent run. You would have to think that staying in Houston would be more preferable to Garcia than the Lakers if was making the same amount. More than likely another team will step up and pay him come July 1st, and he will have to take the money and go.
Good Luck Cisco!!! Must Respect from the whole city of Houston! You wore that Rocket red with passion and fire!
A shame, he was this year's Marcus Camby for Houston (trade filler that made a impact and became a leader quickly) but healthy down the stretch. His departure does now have me concerned because it was proven that at his advance age, he proved to be a better defender then any other forward or guard on our team... I wonder if we will develop or get anyone that can be legit defender.
