The Rockets have had exactly two top 10 picks in 20 years. Add in 3 “lottery” picks since 2006.

It has been a long time since they’ve “built” through the draft. Part of winning is low draft picks. Not easy to build with low draft picks.

Interesting. Anyone heard of this conversation reported?

I can't believe if Harden really "hated" ISO ball, they would keep doing it for another season, unless MDA and/or Morey convinced him to stick with it. Something doesn't sound right.

We didn't draft Steve Francis, but I include him since we traded a bunch of players for him a month after he was drafted. We ended up winning 34 games his rookie season which was fine since we were allowed to be bad.

    Still not ready to concede?

Get help, you're delusional. Alternate realities do not exist.

Wasn't this reported in February 2019?

Seriously, you're misreading it. Re-read it. He's not talking about having 4 all-stars simultaneously. He's talking about acquiring 4 all-stars in total since 2012....like the Rockets did with Harden, Dwight, CP3, and Westbrook.

It doesn't make sense to exclude Francis. We acquired him before his rookie season started, and he was an integral part of the McGrady acquisition.

Why does a year or two matter if your overall point has merit?

I said last 20 years (well past Morey and Harden years) and a generation of players ago.
Even if you add him, that is 3 top 10 picks in 21 years. The fact is the Rockets have hardly ever built through the draft in this millennium.

That doesnt make you any less delusional.

    Keep spinning those alternate realities.

We drafted Yao and traded Francis for McGrady, and that pair led us through 2009. Morey was instructed not to tank, and we acquired Harden in 2012.

It's hard for a GM to build through the draft when he's instructed not to tank.

Trading for McGrady is not building through the draft. That’s literally what they are trying to do now.
I am very aware of our draft history.
I’m just saying it hasn’t been something the Rockets have done prior to Harden and Morey like you suggested.

It kind of is. We acquired Francis after the draft and eventually traded him for McGrady.

Blow it up. Send Russ to the Knicks and Harden to the Nets. Take back as much young talent as you possibly can. You can also send out Tucker, Gordon, and Covington.

By that logic, we have “built through the draft”
We’ve traded Melton, Brooks, Dekker, Harrell, Johnson, Canaan, Lamb during or for Hardens tenure.

Not really. How did those trades turn out?

We traded Francis and fillers for McGrady and fillers.
