Why would the Pistons trade Hamilton in a McGrady deal? Rip's deal expires after this season too, right?
I know some people were scared of giving up Brooks and Landry just in case Amare walked at the end of the year. Some also didn't like his lack of defense, and his also 'attitude problems,' specifically that he wouldn't like being the #2 option behind Yao. Now, if the Amare to GSW deal is dead, I'm thinking it could be that Phoenix doesn't want to trade Amare's expiring contract for Biedrins' long-term contract (even though I don't think it's really a 'bad' contract in terms of value). Bearing all that in mind, how about something like this: HOU gets Biedrins, S.Jackson/Maggette, Barbosa PHO gets Tmac, Landry, Brooks, filler from HOU (expiring contracts, cash, future picks, etc) GSW gets Amare, same type of filler from HOU We get 3 really good established players, 2 of which (Biedrins, SJ/CM) address our biggest needs. GSW saves a lot of money while adding Amare for a year, and PHO gets younger while also saving some cash. Do both teams get worse next year? Most likely. But that doesn't seem to be a concern for a lot of teams right now. As far as Amare vs. Biedrins goes, even though I've really liked him for a long time Biedrins is clearly no Amare. But he is better defensively, doesn't have the injury concerns, and is more of a role player (in terms of style, not amount of talent). Plus, more importantly, instead of losing him for nothing in a year, we'd have him tied up for 4 or 5 years at, IMO, a fairly reasonable price considering his age (9 million). What do ya'll think? Any of this make sense?
Uh oh, now you've done it... Actually Prince has two years, Hamilton has four. There might be an option or something in there that I'm not aware of. The point is that a McGrady deal to Detroit would could be acceptable but would probably need to include a couple of future picks to really make it worthwhile for them. They will be terrible for a few years, but they will have high draft picks, cap space and additional picks to help them maneuver. I don't think it's a bad deal. If your smart in areas like that you can turn things around pretty quick (see Portland).
Most of the trades posted in this thread as terrible for the other teams (some are absolutely terrible for us, such as signing a resigned 12m/year Hedo). Rocket fans has no sense of trade value whatsoever. No a Rubio package won't include TMac. No TMac won't fetch Kings' franchise player Kevin Martin. No Detriot won't trade Tay and Rip for TMac.
The Detroit trade may not be realistic beause with Iverson and Wallace coming off their books, they are going to have plenty of cap room available, so it is not necessary for them to trade players for that reason. But you can use it to rationalize why both teams may want to make a trade like that. leebigez has bemoaned the Spurs/Bucks trade in numerous threads. I take issue with it because he seems to think the deal should have been made by the Rockets. I disagree because the Rockets did not have the pieces to make it beneficial for both teams. But he's right, the Spurs got an outstanding player for garbage. And if you find the right trading parter (and sometimes it may take involving a third team) it can be done. So be patient. While it might not make sense to some of us that a team would want our broken down Tmac for a productive player, these GMs are looking at it through an entirely different spectrum. Be patient.
I have a question about the Pacers. Talent-wise, I know we don't have the pieces to make losing Granger worth their while. But seeing all these teams give up talent for nothing, just to slash payroll, makes me wonder: do they have enough bad contracts that they'd be willing to package them in a deal for Granger? Tinsley (7mil,2yrs) and to a much lesser extent Foster (7mil,2yrs) are obvious choices. What kind of package would we have to put together to get Granger, Tinsley, and/or Foster? Is it feasible?

I agree with the poster who said that Rockets fans have no sense of trade value what so ever. All these trades are all sided in our favor/unrealistic
I'm all for Rip Hamilton becoming a Rocket. We have guys who can nail the three, but very few who are consistent with the mid-range jumper.
