Good stab but where did you get that Spoiler he had an affair with his son's wife? I didn't see that anywhere, just that his son's wife had disappeared. Also the guy that shot him in the future was the brother of the man that was killed and thrown into the hole. DD
There are no clues except for the theme song. I'm assuming that he had a forbidden relationship based on the theme song for the trailer. He either made a deal with the devil to protect his family from something, or he had a forbidden affair, I think. It's a wild stab. But I could see how it would fit in. Also, the blonde girl said I'm glad to finally meet you. That's something a long lost child might say to a Dad they just met.
I found another clue. After the opening scene they emphasize the letters ER RA for a split second. Could be a red herring. But I did notice it. ERRA was the... God of war and plagues, who later became closely associated with the underworld god Nergal. Erra ravages Babylonia with plague after temporarily gaining control over the world. The text is a poetic portrayal of the eruption of violence and its subsequent effects on a society. It shows, among other things, how violence leads to disruption of order – even the divine order imposed on the world by the gods – and the potential to destroy civilisation.
After watching the fourth episode I'm going to guess Autumn is... Spoiler the daughter of the sister he ran away from. Or maybe she is that sister. Whoever she is, I'm happy to say that the show is exceeding my expectations so far.
Autumn: One thing I noticed is that Autumn is constantly testing Royal. For example... Would you sell the land for 1M? Would you be willing to lose it in a hand of poker? They feel like tests. Almost like she wants to see if they solved the next problem. If not, back to work to make sure he does not give up the land. And that he makes the right decision. There is an internet theory that she is the grownup version of Amy. The evidence does fit nicely. I like that. I can't poke a hole in it. All of that makes sense. Not sure why the 2 of hearts was important. But that has got to have symbolism. The Buffalo: Gotta work on this one. The arrows may be an indication of how many dead are still missing, or perhaps the arrows are an indication of problems that need to be solved. Not sure. It's a weird thing. But the Buffalo has obviously been there at all of the key moments. It feels like a sign that people are deviating from the right path. Big Picture Thought: It feels like Angels are coming from the future to make sure that people make the right decisions. That human inherently will make the wrong decision, but that it will be changed. That the lights will be turned on.
Caught up over the weekend. My thoughts: Spoiler I like the idea that Autumn is Royal's sister. She doesn't remember anything before she was 9 (until she gets on that ranch) so maybe there were some time travel shennanigans and that's how she is so much younger than Royal, and how he doesn't really recognize her. It would also explain her general animosity to Royal but also weird obsession with him. She's mad that he left her but he's still her brother. I was really confused by the mountain thing. Especially with the way Royal almost looked like he wasn't surprised. Like maybe he willed that to happen? Did he have some idea of the power of her necklace and was using that moment to test it? And that's why he went all in to win the necklace in the poker game. I just gotta say, Josh Brolin is so good. The power of that prayer he uttered at breakfast the day after Trevor was killed gave me chills. He does a good job of coming off as the total quiet country boy, but with some true depth and mystery that makes you wonder what his true story is. I'm definitely all in for this show.
Five episodes in, fantastic show. Keeps you guessing. Autumn has that exotic Scarlett Johansson look- beautiful but at the same time sort of fugly.
Think the little girl goes into the pit by the end of the season. Time is running out for her. Not sure why Autumn has gone off the rails because she seems like the only one who kinda knows why everything is happening. So for her to be scared on the bike and off the rails seemed really out of place. Nothing led me down a new path this week, except that the wife has been missing 9 months now, which is just long enough for her to have a baby. And also the evil rancher forgot the first 10 years of his life, just like Autumn and Royal, so that's a growing coincidence. But I thought it was fun.
I like the weirdness, but there's too much soap opera drama and not enough supernatural. They focus too much on ... "he accidentally killed him" and "he's trying to cover for him" and "he's in love with her" but "she won't be with him while he's in trouble" and ... blah blah blah... ...meanwhile, there's a mysterious pit that they're super-slow to develop along with some other mysterious stuff. This is why X-Files is one of the greatest shows ever made. It didn't waste time on soap opera garbage.
The drama is the reason Royal does what he does. It's part of the plot. As for the mysterious stuff: Did you watch episode 6?
Yeah - and I like he mysterious stuff... Spoiler What's with the weird rocks? How and why are the animals talking now? ...But I'm sooooo sick of the standard Hollywood drama. I like Royal and what he's going through, but... Spoiler .. the whole "Perry accidentally killed Trevor" "Rhett's trying to cover for Perry" "Rhett loves Maria" "Maria saw Rhett fighting Trevor and tried to cover for him" "Maria loves Rhett, but won't be with him while he's in trouble" "...but Maria slept with Rhett anyway" ..... ugh. When shows focus on this soap opera bull$hit they don't survive. Drop this crap and get back to the weird pit, talking animals, disappearing mountains, and mysterious rocks.
My take: Spoiler Autumn is ****ing crazy. So animals talk to her. And it looks like the whole murder angle is getting wrapped up anyway. Only two more episodes, but I do hope there are more seasons.
I agree - I like the Autumn character very much. WHAT?!?!? Only two episodes left?!?!? UGH!!!! I miss the old days, when a show's season included 25 episodes.
