from today's Washington Post Obama To Offer Eight-Point Argument for Health-Care Reform By Michael D. Shear On his travels Wednesday, the White House aide said, Obama he will unveil the following, eight-part message, designed to convince the insurance masses that reform will be good for them: * No Discrimination for Pre-Existing Conditions: Insurance companies will be prohibited from refusing you coverage because of your medical history. * No Exorbitant Out-of-Pocket Expenses, Deductibles or Co-Pays: Insurance companies will have to abide by yearly caps on how much they can charge for out-of-pocket expenses. * No Cost-Sharing for Preventive Care: Insurance companies must fully cover, without charge, regular checkups and tests that help you prevent illness, such as mammograms or eye and foot exams for diabetics. * No Dropping of Coverage for Seriously Ill: Insurance companies will be prohibited from dropping or watering down insurance coverage for those who become seriously ill. * No Gender Discrimination: Insurance companies will be prohibited from charging you more because of your gender. * No Annual or Lifetime Caps on Coverage: Insurance companies will be prevented from placing annual or lifetime caps on the coverage you receive. * Extended Coverage for Young Adults: Children would continue to be eligible for family coverage through the age of 26. * Guaranteed Insurance Renewal: Insurance companies will be required to renew any policy as long as the policyholder pays their premium in full. Insurance companies won't be allowed to refuse renewal because someone became sick.
good point, I have no idea, I got what I posted from an email my own views probably differ from his on health care, my view is I don't know what the h*** is going on and I would like to hear more from doctors I can remember when it worked for most everyone in America in the early '60's except for the obvious prejudice and racism that existed I certainly would like to know a good way to provide affordable health care to the whole population one thing that is good is charity hospitals, if I was a doctor I would volunteer time for helping the poor that isn't a solution to the current mess just a comment as a benefit administrator I really don't like the HMO set up, that is the one thing I was most interested in, besides paying for it all, I am always interested in the cost of things because our future depends on how we handle the debt load we are under
One thing I'm tired of hearing about is how diabetes is mostly a weight problem. I used to excercise all the time, run about 18-24 miles a week. I stopped when my kid was born, my weight blew up from about 185 to 135 for a couple of years. then I lost it all, because I became diabetic. but I don't have the diabetes from being overweight, type II. I have type I, and there isn't a cure for it. my brother has type I, we're both about 5,10", he's never weighed over 185 in his entire life. My uncle has it, he's in the same situation as my brother. never been overweight in my lifetime, he just contracted about 15 years ago, he's eighty years old. what needs to be addressed is the amount of sugar and corn syurp in all these processed foods we eat. congress is beholden to the corn lobby for some reason. 20/20 had an excellent episode on this about these guys who 30 years ago predicted the obesity epidemic because started giving all these subsidies to corn farmers. they said not encouraging farmers to plant more nutrious vegetables was going to catch up to the american public. now that being said, we're all responsible for what we eat. when I was younger I made an effort to eat nutricious food at dinner time but I did eat a lot of fast food for breakfast and lunch. we do need to encourage people to eat better but the problem is more widespread and is going to take a bigger solution.
But is everyone going to be on an HMO with this plan? Or is that just for the uninsured right now? I love PPO.
Diabetes is a result of both heredity, and an unhealthy lifestyle. Same with heart conditions. I assume you meant to say 235. 135 would be super skinny.
This should have been done months ago. This is one area Obama has really screwed up. In order to avoid the mistakes of HillaryCare, he went the opposite direction and provided Congress basically no direction which led them to go 12 different directions. It's a bit late to be trying to give them direction now.
its really weird he didn't do this last week during the press conference. he should get with ross perot and make som charts and diagrams
