I'm going to get my usual criticize NBC's coverage of the Olympics out of the way.

The inanity of it get's worse every Olympics and while I think human interest stories are good the amount and focus on the personalities of the US athletes by the NBC get's annoying. All of the NBC' coverage feels like how much can we make Sports more like the Today show and talk about how athletes (US Athletes) are enjoying eating ramen in Japan rather than focus on breaking down the competition and talking about the sport.

I know that NBC wants to be "Woke" and celebrate women but frankly a lot of their coverage of female athletes (and again it's almost exclusively US Athletes) infantilizes women athletes. While they do segments on training they spend a lot of time trivializing them talking about things that have little do do with competition.

Worse of all is that they often want to inject themselves into stories. When Simone Biles withdrew they "reported" on Hoda yelling encouragement of Biles from the press platform.

I get it NBC is a US network and naturally their emphasis is on US athletes but to understand the sports and the level of competition it helps to know who the best are in the sports even if they aren't US. It's one of the reason why people seem shocked when the US actually loses or the pressure on athletes like Simone Biles because there is little context about the challenges from the rest of the World.

 

Suni Lee just won the AA individual gold. The US win streak extends to 5 with 5 different girls even without Biles.

Probably would have still won the team gold if Simone had pulled out earlier.
