Italy-GB-Canada with the medals. Weird. I had no idea the US relay team was such a disaster recently until Carl spoke up.
Anchor for Italy... got damn. Dude just swallowed up that GB lead the last 30m or so. I mean the afterburners just came on. Impressive. Also, camera work in the last leg has been on point these games.
Not sure when this was shot, but this shows more of Sydney McLaughlin's personality. I have changed my view on her, she is very charismatic and funny. I think she acts the way she acts in public because she is trying to be a role model for children and she has a lot of pressure on her. I keep forgetting how young this girl is.
Artistic (Synchro) swimming has won me over. That has to be the most physically demanding sport. You have to be able to hold your breath a long time, while swimming upside down, lifting a person, doing gymnastics while wearing waterproof makeup and smiling the whole time.
Watched some of the Karate Kumite and haven't done competitive Karate since I was a kid. Don't get the scoring especially as they were doing throws but those weren't scoring. Other than the throws it looked very Taekwondo like.
This guy loses his gold medal because he kicked his opponent too hard. Is that how it is over there!? this seems crazy. Some of these sports are weird, lol
When I was a kid the point system we used didn't allow strikes to the face and you scored with strikes to the front and side torso and back of the head. It seems weird you're going to allow face strikes but have to pull them. It seems like then they should wear head protection and allow full contact. Also it looks like they aren't defending much but keeping their hands down.
imagine someone watching eggball for the first time and seeing an unnecessary roughness call on a DB. It would be super confusing.
US has had a tradition of poor baton passes/relays in the past. It was just keeping up with the tradition. I really only watch the Olympics for track events (for the most part), and I was let down this year (for the most part).
I just havent' paid attention and assumed we were still up there in the sprint events. Hopefully Carl and the media attention lit a fire under their ass and things get fixed. I did randomly watch the last 10 minutes of the women's marathon...bronze for the US was a huge surprise (in the 3rd marathon that lady had ever run...crazy)
For the U.S. it's always been the individual events where we were always either #1 or #2. With the relay events we either did well or completely screwed up on baton passes. lol. I don't know what it is. I'm speaking of the men's events - can't remember with the women's.
Congrats to the US women's bball for winning gold. I did not enjoy watching them. Taurasi is my favorite WNBA player, but boy were their games boring.
