No way!! Are you serious? Thats absolutely shocking because Im sure Bob McNair would rather win the preseason game than the regular season game. I think you should double check your sources on Jerry's thoughts. The Cowboys have their eyes on the Super Bowl every season....unfortunately, that team never lives up to the hype. They choke and fail every year based on "expectations"...in the end, they are full of win for non-Cowboy fans.
http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=5501971 Not a whole lot but article about Bob McNair being for an 18 game schedule
what do you think about the 18 game schedule. I am mixed on it I can understand why the players would not want it. Rocket River
^ i'm mixed too. Sure more football is great and all but I'm more concerned for the players. They already beat the hell out of their bodies. I guess they could add another bye week or somethings but then that streches out the season....or they could just start earlier If they did do 18 games they would have to expand the rosters i would think.
I think 18 is terrible. It's all about the playoffs. This will mean more hurt players out for the playoffs. It's all about revenue though, it doesn't really add any meaning to the regular season.
Yeah, I don't know how I feel about 18 games. I feel like the NFL is so competitive and so watchable as it is right now that I would hate to see them mess with the impact of every game by diluting the schedule. I know 2 games doesn't seem like a lot, but I think it would have a pretty big effect on the meaning of games. It would be nice to turn that 4th preseason game into regular season, but then you mess with how many home regular season games a team gets each year. Maybe if they alternated it every year so that teams weren't constantly getting an extra road game in the reg. season it would work.
It's not just an 18 game schedule for the good teams. And for the bubble teams like the Texans that means 21 games before the Super Bowl with possibly 1 week break between it all. There's so many more things they should fix before trying to tinker with something that nobody really has a problem with.
Plus this is just to vote to add it to the agenda or something right? This will be another issue addressed with the NFLPA when coming up with the new CBA.
Terrible idea....I dont like anything about the 18 game schedule. Plus, as irrelevant as it might seem, it will mess up the record books. Players will rush, receive, and throw for more in a given season. It would be like adding an extra plate appearance per game for a baseball player...meaning 3000 hits will be easier to accomplish...500 home runs...etc... 16 games is perfect. No reason to mess with it.
Way! This is another "bubble" year for them thanks to the Cowboys' GM JJ. Coach Stumbledufus with his career lone playoff win is in the final year of his contract. The GM has failed (again) to draft o-line talent and injuries have hit that group. Romo is still a guy who rolls up big stats but can't get them to the promised land but is treated like he's the second coming up here. Oh and they are still about the glitz, glamour, nude pictures on the internet - everything but football. I'm absolutely shocked that you chose to inject reality into our discussion.
Ordinarily yeah, but the Cowboys' offense has looked pretty feeble in the past three games some there is considerable angst amongst the Cowsheep and Jason Garrett's coordinator chair is getting a bit toasty. They will gameplan the Texans tonight but not all that much as they play again in three weeks - this time for real.
Wouldn't that screw up scheduling? Otherwise, the only reason that I would support the NFL going to 17 games would be to eliminate 8/8 seasons.
If the NFL switches out 2 preseason games for regular season games, do you think the roster size will increase for the regular season?
