Do NFL teams pay an injured player's salary, or is there an insurance policy? Does this mean Houston thinks TH will contribute next season? Or putting TH on IR deflects criticism for the pick?
Guys, not that Holliday was going to make the team, but the guy tore a ligament in his thumb and is getting surgery...thats not something that was made up to save face for drafting him. Same thing happened to K-Rod on the Mets and he is having surgery and will miss the remainder of the year. As minute as the injury seems, the hands are actually kind of important for someone that needs to catch and hold on to a ball. For an offensive lineman, not so much.
Holliday isnt a big deal. He wasnt going to make the team more than likely this year. Losing Tate, however, was/is brutal
We threw some other people back there against the Saints. Slaton and Jeremiah Johnson both had good returns.
Trindon was somewhat of a gamble but yeah, he was supposed to add more explosiveness than A.Davis and keep Jacoby from risking injury on punts.
The timing of the surgery and the announcement just seems really fishy to me, but yeah, it could (and probably is) legitimate. Either way, I find it hard pressed to believe that he was going to make this team regardless of his injury just because the odds were so stacked against him. And as someone said earlier, we threw Slaton and Johnson back there, and both had good/great returns, so it's not like we can't find SOMEONE to contribute in that front. Aside from all that, I'm just ready to see what this team can really do without the excuse of a hot training camp, travel, and injuries. While losing Tate isn't ideal, I just don't think his loss this season will translate to anything tangible on the field. If our season was dependent on him, I think we really wouldn't HAVE a season.
What do you guys think about Owen Daniels starting week one without any preseason snaps? I think we need to give him a low snap count and split time with Dreesen and Casey
Holliday was playing to his home crowd, he assuredly was amped to have a make or break game on in front of his fans. He either played down the thumb thing or begged coaches to give him a chance and if he muffed, he'd give in to surgery.
I read somewhere that he was cleared to practice starting next week, but that he likely wouldn't play in the 4th preseason game. That seems kind of odd to me. If he is fully participating in practice (and maybe he won't bbe, I don't know) then he should get SOME snaps in the last preseason game so he can get his feet a little wet before the season starts. Either way, I'm just happy it looks like he'll be available for most of the season. I will be curious to hear how close to 100% he is.
Given that I read some reports that the coaches are not that encouraged with Zabransky, what would you guys think of Colt McCoy if he is cut from the Browns? http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/blog/sh...uld-the-Browns-cut-Colt-McCoy-?urn=nfl-265084
JasonLaCanfora via Twitter: Looks like we just missed out on adding some depth at tackle. After Butler, we don't have much in the way of game experience so this might have been nice. Zabransky? Lol. You mean Orlovsky. Holmgren isn't going to let Colt be cut, so there's no point in talking about it.
Some scuttlebutt on Saturday's game with the Cowboys. Dallas will be playing their 4th preseason game and expect Jason Garrett (OC) to approach this as a dress rehearsal for the season (will gameplan - said as much on the radio today). The starters are expected to go for at least a half so the Texans had better be ready to play this week (unlike last week). Maybe Mario will pick up some pointers from DeMarcus Ware. Now the radio talking heads are bleating about how much Jerry Jones really wants to win this game because he was really embarrassed about the earlier loss at Reliant but I'm just not buying into this. Dallas really gains nothing from beating Houston while we all know what any Houston win over Dallas means for Texans' fans. Jerry would want the regular season win more because it counts. Cowboys' eyes are on the Super Bowl while Texans are just hoping to make the playoffs. That's a BIG difference in the expectations for both teams but then, it's always been that way for as long as I can remember.
I don't expect neither team to really gameplan much, seeing as how we see each other again in five weeks. Yes, each team would love to win, but as far as gameplanning against the other team, forget about it. Why tip your hand in a game that doesn't matter?
I thought teams generally treated the 3rd preseason game as the dress rehearsal and pretty much only used backups in the 4th game in an effort to minimize injury.
