for me it was the Jeff Kent debacle. telling us that he had no business on the team during the early part of 2004 and that the Astros should be starting Chris Burke.... to bashing the 'stros for not re-signing him after that season. flip flop
@Adam_Schefter: Sleeper alert RT @evansilva: Kubiak on Texans rookie Dorin Dickerson: "He's got the talent to be a (No.) one or two (WR) in this league."
Where do you get this from? Did you see the whole RJ/DA debacle. It pretty much proved that all Houston athletes think he is pathetic. The guy has never written anything decent that I have ever read.
Not that I give a rat's ass about anything DA says or does but I am mystified as to why you guys continue reading a columnist that you collectively deride as: crap, dumbass, a joke, etc.. I fail to understand why anything he says or writes should affect anyone here unless deep down, you either believe he's right or you are scared that he's right. If he is truly the talentless hack you folks make him out to be, then please explain why you all care so much about anything he writes. Reading these posts, I am struck at how many folks get all hot and bothered just because someone in the media isn't writing or saying the things they want to see or hear about the Texans, Rockets or Astros. All of you need to grow a thicker skin if an idiot like Justice can continue to get a rise out of you simply by writing nonsense. And the same goes for anything Solomon writes.
I only read it if it is posted on this site. I am pissed because I would like a competent sports writer covering my home town teams. It is not upsetting that he posts disagreeable things, it is that he posts nonsensical things and idiotic ideas simply to get hits on hit article. He has no original thoughts and no true opinion. Did you read that article? It said absolutely nothing, literally, the guy is pathetic. I would like to read local sports columns that are insightful or interesting. Dick provides neither.
The DA case is an outlier - for the most part, people take a lot of the Justice "hate" out of context. One particular case is Lance Berkman - if you took his words at face value ("Writer of Wrongs"), you'd think the guy hates Richard. In reality, I can guarantee you - outside of maybe Footer, there's no one in the media, Houston or national, that Berkman talks to and respects more. Berkman's just being sarcastic, which many athletes are. Believe me, as someone who spends a decent bit of time in all three major clubhouses and sees this stuff, I have a good feel for what reporters are best connected. There's a constant playful back and forth jabbing between players and major columnists in all cities, and you have to be very careful not to take it out of context. That said, I would agree that the Texans regard Justice a little differently than the Astros and Rockets. The latter two, Justice has been tied in for a longer period of time (obviously) and had more established managements. With the Texans, you combine a new franchise with the whole UT fallout over Vince Young (which leads to his irrationality with Mario Williams, and to an extent the team), and things get strained.
I don't follow baseball, so I don't know or care about that. But the guy is even more clueless about basketball than he is football. He knows absolutely nothing about either and there is no way he is close to players on either team. The Texans are public about their hate to him and I have never seen a Rockets even talk to him, he hardly even covers the rockets.
it's tomorrow at noon, the interview. Ever since I switched to a Mac, I have not been able to get my audio recording software to work. =( sucks. And Dick justice, the writer of wrongs, I find him kind of entertaining when he's on radio or national tv. It seems like the western media is in love with Justice. He's the first guy they call when something goes wrong here in Houston..ie. yao breaks foot, steroids or the other horrible things that gets us national attention.
I don't know what to say other than I can personally guarantee you, from first-hand knowledge and observations of the people involved, that you're dead wrong about Richard and the Rockets. You're entitled to your opinion, I suppose, but you're off base on that.
John McClain is reporting that Kareem Jackson will not play against Arizona. He will be attending his grandmothers funeral in Georgia.
Justice would be much better if he just covered baseball seriously and wasn't all about the web hits. He's no different from one of those flashy ads you see on a website just trying to get clicks. He's a joke when it comes to NFL and NBA.
What have you read from him that ever, ever, EVER gave you the impression he's not a joke with MLB? He's a joke all around.
Cat seems to like him, and perhaps he is well liked and connected in the clubhouses, but he is just a bad writer with a poor knowledge base of professional sports what I've been able to gather.
A few years ago it was quite publicized how *disliked* he was in the Astros clubhouse. Garner, IIRC, wouldn't even speak with him. As far as your assessment of his writing, I concur. What an embarrassment to this city.
Perhaps my memory has faded me, but wasn't he more exclusively an Astros editorial writer in the early '00s? It seems like over the last 5 years or so that he's really just started putting out headline grabbers.
