What Stevierebel said. A player can be taken off the Active/PUP list at any time. When a player is on PUP he cannot practice with the team. He's allowed to attend team meetings and film study, but no participating in team practices. Any on-field activity must be individual training. A player is placed on PUP at the start of training camp. If an injury occurs once training camp has begun, then that player is not allowed to be placed on PUP. There are actually two PUP lists. The first one is called Active/PUP. This is the one that Owen Daniels and Anthony Hill are on. As it has been said before, a player may come off of the Active/PUP list at any time during training camp or preseason. If a player is on Active/PUP and the team doesn't think he will be ready for the start of the regular season then he may move to the Reserve/PUP list. A player on Reserve/PUP must miss the first six games of the season. After the six games a team has three weeks for that player to start practicing. Once he begins practicing the team then has another three weeks to activate him. If the player fails to practice in the alloted timeframe (or the team does not activate him) then that player is automatically moved to the IR and he may not play the remainder of the season. A player on Active/PUP does count against the 80-man training camp roster. However, a player on Reserve/PUP does not count against the 53-man regular season roster. I'm expecting Owen Daniels to be taken off Active/PUP during the preseason. I think the Texans would like him to play in at least one preseason game before everything counts for real on September 12. On the other hand, I am expecting Anthony Hill to remain on Active/PUP and be transferred to Reserve/PUP at the start of the regular season. This will give the Texans six more weeks in his recovery and a better idea if he can come back. If they don't think he can help the club this season then they can move him to IR, ending his season.
Man I love Bernard Pollard. Dude had another brawl today. This time against Chris Myers and Eric Winston. During OTAs, he brawled against Kasey Studdard. If you could only sign one guy to a long term deal between Owen Daniels and Pollard, who would you sign? I would lean a little toward Pollard because OD is coming off another ACL surgery and Texans have a couple of good young tight ends in James Casey and Garrett Graham.
First serious injury of training camp. WR Glenn Martinez was put on IR due to a hamstring injury. The Texans have brought back WR London Crawford who was released earlier to take Martinez's spot. WR Trindon Holliday is also suffering from a hamstring injury, but I don't think it is as serious as Martinez's.
While I can appreciate the intensity Pollard has shown and I understand the question mark that OD will be coming off major surgery...this isn't really even a question to me. Pollard has had one good season following general disappointment for a bad team. OD has been nails from the start and improved every year until his injury. Plus, while I think James Casey and Garret Graham have potential, I wouldn't go so far as to say that either are "good" by NFL standards since one hasn't taken a snap and the other didn't do much with the snaps he got last year. Give me Owen any day of the week and twice on Sundays.
you sign Pollard because we had a top 3 defense as soon as he was inserted into the starting lineup the last thirteen games last year.you cant argue that...
If Pollard isnt a part of that defense, we lose intensity, passion, leadership, guts, and identity. The dude has been a beast. We were still able to win games without OD last season...but if you take away Pollard from last season's team, we lose an additional 2 games. At this point in time, my choice would be for Pollard over Daniels.
Agree completely. We lost OD, but the offense didn't suffer at all. Dressen stepped up and played well. Pollard changed the face of the defense. Right now, I sign Pollard. OD is one of the best pass catching tight ends in the game...but in this offense, he's a replaceable piece.
Good start for Rackers, who went 6-for-6 on field goals in front of the team today, per the Texans' Nick Scurfield. Brown went 5-for-6... hooked a 43-yarder that also appeared to be short. It may seem like a little thing, but I'd wager the trust in Kubiak (not just among me, but players on the team) would go up quite a bit if he cuts the cord with Brown. Rackers is a good kicker, and if only for psychological reasons, this team needs to part ways with Kris, imo.
I cant see us keeping Kris...after last season, if Brown steps on the field and misses another FG this upcoming year, all hell will break loose. There is way too much psychological baggage involved here.
Between Owen and Pollard it really is a tough choice. Things that stick out to me about Owen is he has tremendous hands(Bengals game), has great chemistry with Schuab, and has been a huge guy for us on third down. As for Pollard, the defense really took off when he got here, his biggest attribute is not his covering skills or his hands but maybe his intensity that appeared to wear off on his teammates. A good safety breaking down the run, he led the Texans to one of the best rushing defenses from the moment he stepped on to the field until the end of the season. The difference between these two is the way the game changed when they were on or off the field. Pollard steps in, the defense becomes top 5 in the league statistically. Owen Daniels steps out and the Offense does not sputter a bit. With Dressen and Casey backing up, Daniels is a lot more expendable coming off the knee injury. I love Owen as much as the next guy but it is just a business, you go with the guy who makes your team that much better(Pollard). Hopefully we sign both guys though.
Here are the uniform combinations the Texans will wear at home this season: Preseason (jersey color / pants color) Saturday August 28 vs Cowboys -- Blue/White Thursday September 2 vs Buccaneers -- Blue/White Regular Season (jersey color / pants color) Sunday September 12 vs Colts -- White/White ***Liberty White Out*** Sunday September 26 vs Cowboys -- Blue/White Sunday October 10 vs Giants -- Blue/White Sunday October 17 vs Chiefs -- Blue/White Sunday November 7 vs Chargers -- Blue/Blue ***Deep Steel Sunday*** Sunday November 28 vs Titans -- Blue/White Monday December 13 vs Ravens -- Red/Red ***Battle Red Day*** Sunday January 2 vs Jaguars -- Blue/White Notice that the Texans will not wear White/Blue at home this season. This is a departure from them wearing that look during the first part of the season. I like the fact that they will stick with Blue/White for home games, except the three special games. Not a big surprise that the MNF game is Battle Red Day/Night. I wish they would wear Red/White instead of the all-red look. The away games uniform combinations aren't known yet, but I wouldn't be surprised if all regular season road games are White/Blue. http://www.houstontexans.com/gameday/2010UniformCombinations.asp
i can't argue with one point in the article. i've already thought about how the Chron will spin all this to excuses in November. nevertheless, Go Texans!
