while getting wilson and gilhart would have been great, they are getting top notch talent. he might be the best 3 down back in this years class. i don't think gilhart will amount to much, hence the texans passing on him for tate.
i copied t-slack. gerhart seems a bit of a stiff, seems like a north and south guy. granted, he's a big back, i see him more of a short yardage RB while matthews i see a guy who can play every down. i like him though, but i'm glad we got tate who is similar but seems to be a bit more mobile. having said that, i have no idea how they will pan out in the pros. we shall see.
the guy was a truck in college, I never saw less than 3 defenders ever take him down and I watched him play a lot. I think he'll be a great compliment to AD
they seem very similar IMO. it's different when you have a college LB tackling you and you have a pro LB tackling you. you better be a truck cause you're getting lit up.
They asked gerhart about that in an interview, he told them to ask brian cushing and clay mathews about how hard he is to bring down.
Not to burn a torch for a guy I liked here because the past is the past. Gerhart will be special. He may no be an All Pro but he'll be solid for years.
I'll take Tate over Mathews and Toby. Mathews was completely over hyped and the Chargers overpaid for him. Toby will not average more than 4 yards a carry. Ever. Very good goal line or short yardage back, but not much more than that.
Yeah, same here...his personality and excitement for the game is great to see. Thats partly why Im so pumped to see him in a Texans uni.
Ha, cool...I think he's a great fit for Minny, since they have AD. I dont think he's a featured back type of player. I think he's the complimentary, get the tough yards, score the TD type of player. Not saying thats a bad thing...if Slaton hadnt taken a step back, Gerhart would have been a great fit for our team. But, I think we need someone more in the mold of Tate.
i think thats a interesting thing to consider. If Slaton had built upon the prior years performance, i think TG would have made more sense. As is, we don't know if Slaton was just a flash in the pan or if last year was a fluke. But, with Slaton questionable I think the texans wanted a guy who won't just compliment but could be the primary back. I love Tate's size and is explosiveness once he makes his one cut is impressive, which is also another thing i think the Texans liked...the guy has home run potential when he touches it. I like TG and think he will be more than servicable but not a feature back. He's in a great position with minny and seeing him line up at FB at times, with Adrian in the TB position...it will give teams cause for concern.
Here's what I would have done as GM: #1 - trade down for extra 3rd & select (CB Kyle Wilson) #2 - don't trade down & select (RB Toby Gerhardt) #3 - (QB Colt McCoy) #4 - trade down to get 5th and 6th to select (CB Perrish Cox) and (SS Myron Rolle) #4 - (LB eric norwood) #5 - (DT Cam Thomas) #6 - (RB Jonathan Dwyer) #6 - same (KR Trindon Holliday) #7 - same (WR Doran Dickerson) We would have a MUCH more explosive playmaker in Kyle Wilson (we need a long-haired Chris Johnson look-alike for intimidation factor) over Kareem Jackson. Also we'd have a MUCH better player in Gerhart (breaking tackles & running over opponents for sure touch-downs) over Tate. Add a 2nd round talent in Cox over lowly rated McManis. A steal at DT in Cam Thomas over undersized Earl Mitchell. A stud pressure-putting LB in Eric Norwood over Sharpton. Add to all this PLUS an AWESOME back-up QB of the present and ticket-selling machine for the future in QB Colt McCoy... AND the sleeper of the year/steal of the entire draft, RB Jonathan Dwyer. Add Gerhart and Dwyer to Slaton and Foster, our running game will go from worst to first! And we still get to keep our burners in the 6th and 7th! Now don't you all think I should be GM? Comments?
C'mon man... Hindsight drafting... really? It's so much easier to manuver knowing what the teams did with their picks, isn't it
that's a nice hypothetical, but you can't assume that one of the teams between the 20th and 29th picks wanted to trade k, well, there goes that extra 3rd you talked about lulz. now we're gettin' to the good stuff. Considering Cox went fairly early in the 5th, you'd be limited to one of only 4-5 teams to trade with, and Rolle is a Strong Safety, not sure why you want another one of those well, I was with you until this justification. hopefully you're joking. although i can't see why you would be. And you think this.. why? Are you forgetting to weigh your analysis of Gerhart vs. Tate + Extra 3rd? Apparently Cox wasn't as good as you think he is, otherwise he would've gone earlier, no? It's not like he was held back by being classified as basically an "athlete" or "project" like Dickerson. He was a CB and nothing but that in what is a market starving for DB talent. I can agree somewhat with Cam Thomas, and maybe even Norwood (either way, they're depth players). Err.... whut? Colt McCoy is automatically "AWESOME"? The dude hasn't even thrown a pass in the NFL and suddenly he's the guy to back up Matt? Why are we spending a 3rd rounder on a guy who will likely never see the field, and on a position that we possess top 10 talent at? And why do we need Colt to sell tickets? Are you aware the Texans have sold out every game in their existence? Was curious why Dwyer fell so far myself. But if I had to choose between one of our TE or OG picks or Dwyer, I'm not taking Dwyer.
Brian Cushing will appear on NFL Network's Total Access tonight at 6:00pm. I believe he will be in studio. He will also do a live chat on NFL.com at 5:00. If you don't get NFL Network, video segments of Total Access will be available at NFL.com.
