I'm not crazy about spreading the draft out either, but it might do one great thing for those of us forced to watch it on ESPN. It could limit Chris Berman's air time. Maybe he only does the first round. For that alone, I love the idea.
I'm just going to follow the draft via text updates from twitter or something. First year I won't be watching it in a long time, I just can't support this kind of overreaching BS anymore. Keep football tolerable.
Maybe ESPN should just air 6 picks every day until the start of the training camp, and get the jonas brothers or lady gaga to perform between picks. I hate this new line up too.
Day 1 will be the most nauseating out of all of it. I can only imagine the fluff they're going to come up with to flesh out those 4 hours.
Just got a pair of VIP Texans draft party tix. Not sure if I am going to be able to make it though. Long ass drive for the little evneet, and also doubt I will be able to get off work. Just anything football related is allllll i want.
I pretty much made the switch to NFL Network for the draft. It's nothing spectacular but I can't handle ESPN all that much anymore.
I got 2 vip tix to the party. Gonna try to make it, just not sure if I am able to. Told my boss about it, might get the night off by coming in earlier in the day. Are the draft parties aby fun? Worth going to? For me....it's a 3hr drive down there, then right back up.
Yeah, me too. This draft will be the third year in a row I'll watch NFL Network over ESPN. As much as I hate Rich Eisen, I'll take him over Berman any day. Besides, I will never forgive ESPN for missing the Texans first pick a few years ago.
kyle wilson... REALLY? is he the best player available with the 20th pick? i think we could draft a decent cornerback in later rounds.
Kyle Wilson would be worth the 20th pick, in my opinion. He'll be a good NFL corner. I would rather have CJ Spiller, Earl Thomas, or Dan Williams, though. None of whom would probably make it to 20. In a perfect world, we'll get Earl Thomas in the first, someone like a Cam Thomas, or Tyson Alualu in the second, and a Patrick Stoudamire in the third, and James Starks in the fourth (I think he'd be a perfect fit in our system, and I'm biased, because I played against him in high school.).
Thomas falling to the Texans is basically my perfect-world scenario too. That said, a small part of me almost hopes he's on the board and the Texans pass on him, just to watch the "OMGZ CURSED WORLD IS ENDING" meltdown that would ensue about 150 miles to our west.
I can't wait to see what kind of hell breaks loose when the Texans pass up taking an Aggie star in the first round. If that opportunity ever presents itself again, that is.
he's the best cover corner in the draft. Texans would be very lucky to get him. The talent pool for CB really drops off after the first few guys on the board. As for Earl Thomas, i know UTers would love him, but the dude just scares the hell out of me. As a free safety, he isnt a good tackler. As a cornerback, he is just too raw and too much of an unknown simply because his lack of experience.
I'd much rather use the first round pick on Wilson than wait until later rounds to take a CB. Wilson is a stud and would start immediately for us. But, I'd rather have Thomas...if we end up with Wilson, I wont complain though.
I don't see him as a corner even though he has the speed. Tackling is an issue. Interceptions are huge if he can translate that to NFL. He just needs to be hypnotized into thinking the Colts are the Sooners. That said, I like Mathews if he is there at 20. Thomas and Wilson are toss ups for me. I'd probably go Wilson as he plays the harder position.
true. Someone made a good point the other day about Earl though, that because he played in a pass happy league, his "instincts" could have seemed much better than they actually are.
