I've done plenty of explaining throughout the thread, its becoming tiring. If u don't wanna listen, you don't wanna listen, I don't care
Division records of some teams... San Fran 5-1 Carolina 4-2 NY Giants 4-2 Miami 4-2 None of these teams made the playoffs last year. Meanwhile, teams that went 3-3 and 2-4 got the two wildcard spots in the AFC. Division records mean a lot for winning the division because they represent a direct win or loss against the 3 teams you're competing with for that division. But for the wildcard? You need to win about 10 games - outside of a tiebreaker, it doesn't matter at all where those wins come from.
I think the point he was making was that, the one thing that had kept the texans out of the playoffs is their record in the division. Obviously you have to win outside, but the texans problem has been internally. Even given all that's happened with fins, jets and ravens, imo, only the jets have pulled ahead of the texans (as much as you can pull ahead at this point...and thats assuming that someone will be able to replace Jones' production last year.
We've never been able to dominate our division...as far as Im concerned, winning 1 game within the division will not get us into the playoffs. If we go 3-3 against our division foes, we still have to go 7-3 the rest of the way (against Philly, Dallas, NY, Baltimore, NYJ, etc...). Thats a tough task. Now, if we go 2-4 within our division, I can guarantee no playoffs because we arent going to go 8-2 against the rest of the schedule. We need to beat indy, jax, and tenn if we want to make it to the playoffs. If we cant beat them, we arent going to the post season...at least not this year with that brutal schedule. But now that you want to show the numbers...yes, you are right, 2 teams made the playoffs by going .500 or less within their division. However, the other 10 teams went 4-2 or better. In 2008, 9 of 12 teams went 4-2 or better. See the trend? Over the last 8 years, only 5 teams have made the playoffs going under .500 within their division. Thats 5 out of the 96 possible playoff teams...just over 5%. If you want to hang your hat on those odds, go for it. Considering the fact that our all-time division record is 13-35, I think its safe to say that if we want to be a playoff team, we must improve upon that and at least go .500 within the division, at the minimum. So again, Im not so much concerned about what the other teams are doing...my focus is on Indy, Tenn, and Jax. None of these teams have done anything this offseason that worries me.
Anybody know if there is going to be a Texan draft party? I live in Lubbock but will be coming to Houston on Wednesday.
The NFL Draft is less than a week away. For the first time it will be held over three days. Here are the times the draft will air: Thursday -- Round One 6:30pm - 10:00pm NFLN/ESPN Friday -- Rounds Two and Three 5:00pm - 9:30pm NFLN/ESPN (switches to ESPN2 at 6:00) Saturday -- Rounds Four through Seven 9:00am - 5:00pm NFLN/ESPN The Texans select 20th in round one. If you only want to see the Texans' selection and don't care about the other teams, I estimate the Texans will make their pick between 8:35 - 8:50pm.
I love football, but the NFL keeps doing stuff to make me hate it. 4 hours in primetime on a weeknight for the FIRST ROUND ALONE? Anybody who sits through that would probably never want to see football ever again.
It is incredibly stupid for the viewer, but people are gonna watch anyway, so it is a smart business decision. They have 3 days of making money instead of only 2.
I am thinking every player in the first round should have a 3 minute+ highlight video. The coverage should go well into needs of each team as well as grade what they did last year. Also to give draft experts credibility, they should show what they said last year about draft picks...like the three best assessments and the three top what were we thinking assessments.
I think it will be easier for the viewer. More time between picks means more time to do other things. I don't plan on watching until maybe pick 18 or so to maybe pick 22 to give them a chance to talk Texans.
