really? Let's let them bring home the Pee Wee Football trophy, then. It has as much to do with the NFL as the Stanley Cup
Id have no problems bringing Pitts back...but he's not even ready to play right now, so we need to get someone.
Why do people have a problem with this signing? We needed some definite depth in the OL, and this guy seems like he can at least contribute. The guaranteed money isn't outrageous or anything, and he can't be worse than what we've already got. It's not a huge splash, but it's a move that bolsters a weak area on our team.
There are teams that are bringing pitts in already, not sure why the texans wouldnt give him a look But the texans just did what everyone said they would. Severely overpay for a mediocre player. I did not know much about the guy, so I asked about him on a cheifs message board and they couldnt believe that their backup lineman got paid so much. It's not like this guy is a young player who could be a project, he is old and has nver been a full time player in his career
Well, Im sure that because they know everything about him...more than any other team could wish to know. If they felt he would be ready to contribute, Im sure theyd take action on him. And I think Wade can be more of a contributor than what he is being labeled as...no, he wont be game changing and yes, I'd like to draft a guard in the draft, but I watched some clips yesterday and he can do a decent job. He's also only 28, so he's got plenty left in the tank.
right, but a Pitts pre-injury is a starter. There is a bit of risk bringing him back now. I think its worth the risk but I also think getting a versatile and proven O-line (career backup or not) is a good thing. Before last year, most consided Studdard and Myers career backups (and some still do).
1 years as a starter, the last 6 as a backup (starting a total of 18 games). I just wouldnt think it would be too hard to get an upgrade to Myers/Studdard who are among the worst starters in the league. Instead they sign a guy who is in their class, someone that can start, but is much better suited as a backup. Sorry, the last time he was a full time starter was SEVEN YEARS ago, for a single season
Would you guys give Buffalo a 4th for Marshawn Lynch? My couz lives in Buffalo and word is they want to deal Marshawn??
i dont think OL free agents are that strong though. Regardless he is a capable starter at a decent price and who knows, maybe he is built for the texans system moreso than the others he's played. found a little blog on espn... http://espn.go.com/blog/afcsouth/post/_/id/10130/smith-increases-texans-interior-options Regardless, Texans needed another body to compete for a starting role and Smith fits that role. At the end of the day, between the tackles, the texans are still pretty weak. Hopefully Caldwell steps it up.
lies, damned lies, and statistics. How many games did he start the last two years? apology accepted, as "SEVEN YEARS ago, for a single season" (while also inaccurate) is quite different from "never".
the last time he was a full time starter was the 2003 season, this is the 2010 season, that is 7 years. 6 years of being a backup+1 year of being a starter=7 years ago.
I like the signing of Smith because it provides us depth, options at a need position. Did we overpay for him? Maybe. Am I jumping out of my chair because we signed him? No, but I'm certainly glad we brought in another interior lineman he is described as a person that fits our system. I can still see us drafting an interior offensive lineman anywhere within the first 4 rounds. If Iupatia is staring us in the face at 20, they might think hard about taking him but he's the only guard I can see us taking in the first unless we trade back and grab Maurkice Pouncey. What I would like to see is John McClain get off his fat butt and create a list of potential offensive linemen that are available that we could target. After losing out on Bodden, corner is still a concern. I know we will go for help maybe round 1 or 2 but I would like to see a stop gap free agent brought in here still. Lito Shepperd is the guy I have my eye on. He's unrestricted so no strings attached and hasn't been AS GOOD in recent years as he was not too long ago, but he has a good completion % against as what I saw on another board was less than 50%. He's not the answer to the cornerback position but but bringing in a capable free agent paired with a high draft pick provides a much easier solution to the problem
Didn't you hear, John McClain is on a diet And I think Lito Sheppard would be a very good option for the Texans, but a highly unlikely one
hahah yea I saw you post that a couple of pages back. Pretty hilarious...who is he trying to fool. If Hugo Reyes can't lose a SINGLE POUND despite spending 5 seasons walking the equivalence of about 32 15k marathons back and forth across the island, what does John McClain think this "diet" will do to his Jabba the Hut like figure?
He started 9 games in 2009. 7 games in 2008. Generally, when one starts games, that makes him a starter.
ok. well let's get it done kaleidosky. let's not keep talking about it. let's do the damn thing. ya dig?
is that what happened? i don't mean to argue that the texans just signed orlando pace -- just find *accurate* reasons to b**** and moan, if you must b**** and moan. the guy started half of his team's games the last two years.
