So 2 of the 3 players you wanted the Texans to sign they've pursued and you're upset about that? Signing free agents is a two way street. You can pursue them and make them a good offer, but if they want to go somewhere else, there's not much else you can do. Bodden always wanted to return to the Pats, his agent said as much. But you're going to hold that against the Texans? Whatever man, get real.
Yes, he is going to hold that against the Texans because he thinks that they should have given Bodden 20 million guaranteed to persuade him to come here. He also probably thinks we're a cheap franchise and not committed to winning.
since Chester Taylor and Thomas Jones signed with other team they should sgin LT, he would be an upgrade in the RB position.
My thinking is that we're going to draft a RB. I'm not sure why else we wouldn't scoop up Jones at that price. I feel that we're thinking long-term and not just settling with a 1 or 2 year rental.
This is a pretty deep RB class. Other than Spiller and Best, a lot of these guy are big one-cut type backs. I bet the Texans wait until the 3rd to draft a RB, would be interesting if Gerhart is still available in the 2nd. Spiller Best Matthews Dwyer Gerhart Hardesty Tate Dixon Blount
Nah, I don't think we have. I just was going on speculation from 610/790 combined on what the Texans probably offered. Which was rumored to be around the same deal, but nothing confirmed of course. I forget how free agency works sometimes. Do we ever get the details of what the Texans/Astros/Rockets offer a player or is that pretty much filed under classified for fans?
I wish I could edit my posts, but I will be indebted for Clutch making me a member for the time . One more comment in that, even if the Texans match offers from other teams for these free agents. Don't you guys think we should be slightly overpaying for FA talent? We're not quite an established franchise and we don't have any playoff appearances yet. I would think with those combined, we're not going to be the popular choice for just "matching" other teams offers.
We actually have been slightly overpaying for FA talent, this has typically resulted in a lot of complaining from fans. Weaver, Green, Reeves, and Smith coming to mind. But while it is important to be active in FA, it is just as important not to shoot yourselves in the foot and overpay players. As far as Bodden, it sounds like he intended to re-sign with the Pats all along and just used us to either guage his market value for the Pats or up his value.
repped. anything short of a SB win "typically results in a lot of complaining from fans." And, while we have no frame of reference here in Houston, I'll surmise that the momentary reprieve from "a lot of complaining from fans" ends about two breaths after the ticker-tape parade.
To the people who are "tired" of the Texans going after 2nd tier guys and at the same time complaining that we haven't made a splash this offseason... I really don't see how Bodden fits the mold of a "stud FA" anymore than Weaver did. They were both somewhat afterthoughts who had some mild success and were looking for a bigger role. I'd almost say that Bodden was the CB version of Weaver's DL. But when people argue "The Texans *have* gone after FAs in the past", the same people who want(ed) us to overpay for Bodden are saying "No they haven't--they've just gone after lower level guys like Weaver. Gotta make a splash!" Double standard, at its finest
that's a good point. Losing Modden isnt a huge slap in the face, although it would have been nice to lock in your starting CBs. He was certainly one of the better CB FA but not a guy you feel that you have to have. The guy is solid, servicable starter, much like Weaver was.
