I normally don't like to respond to children who post like they are having a text message battle, but I will this time. Please read what I said. The Texans are not "big game hunters" in free agency. They don't pursue the top end free agents. I never said they were cheap because clearly they aren't. They've thrown a ton of money at players over the years. They have an internal philosophy though to build from the draft and add veterans to augment their core as opposed to signing star level players.
Matt I'm glad you posted this. Wish I would have seen it earlier. This is what I've been posting in here as well. Good to see a "credible source" back me up.
which is a pretty big problem imo. No superbowl contender in the past 10 years built exclusively through the trade. All of them have been players for big time free agents.
I'd like to see this statement dissected. Not that I don't believe you, I just can't think of anything off the top of my head.
I would say the Steelers and Colts have built championship caliber teams almost exclusively through the draft with minor FA signings, but the Texans organization isn't in the same galaxy as them front office or coaching wise. They also just had their 1st year of 16 game competent QB play in franchise history...in year 8.
Me either. Teams, especially good defenses, seem to come via draft and time which is why the Redskins are getting nowhere fast.
Patriots have been players lately, Vikings and the Jets have started to become very active. IMO we don't need to sign the big fish but a nice salmon would be nice.
Damn, there's some talent out there! If McNair can creek open that checkbook, we can be a dynamite team!
With the Lions? WTF? I know the t*** were down last season, but it wasn't that bad. Good for us. As much as I can't stand him, he did some freaking damage against the Texans.
Vandendouche was one of my favorite players to hate. Sigh. At least Courtney Finnegan is still around.
I'm not sure what's there to debate. Mcnair mentioned this in a press conference. Resign Ryans & OD and fill the other holes through the draft. Also, sign Bodden somehow and I'll call it a very successful off-season.
But when they let guys simply walk (Walters, Robinson), they create more holes. We already had glaring needs and didn't need to add to the list. You can only reasonably expect to fill 2 or 3 holes (ready to play) through the draft each year. If you manage to get 4 competent to good starters in a single year, you've hit a home run. I honestly expect McNair to let the team slide back to some degree this year.
They signed Vinatieri and Booger McFarland for their superbowl run, but yes, they are the only team that built almost exclusively through the draft.
Sorry I am I kind of new to this. I know placing a tenure pick helps make that player a restricted free agent and if the teams don't match they get the opposing teams picks. But why didn't the Texans place a pick on Dunta Robinson since he was one of the most sought out cornerbacks this offseason. Is there a limit of the years played making this option unavailable?
