Nobody would give up that much for a MLB. Even if they do, we would then use that 1st rounder on the best inside linebacker in the draft, we would use a 3rd rounder to shore up another area of need...and then we'd have money left over from not signing Ryans. I can think of many worse things that could happen...
If you are referring to my post, I'm far from thinking the sky is falling. I agree it business, and if it were two years ago I wouldn't be concerned with losing two bigtime produers on this team. I could really give two sh*** about Dunta being gone, he's not worth the money. I agree the smart thing is to tender OD And Ryans with a first and third. All I'm saying is, if we do lose them, don't act like it won't put a huge dent in us winning this year. The picks are huge I know this, but the team can win and should win this year. So if it's directed at me, talk to me and get some clarification. If not directed at me then all apologies
Looks like the Texans will be going strong after Chestor Taylor along with Detroit, I would love for the Texans to pick him up as a complement to a healthy SS. Only question is what kind of contract he'd see?
Didn't even read your post, so no, not talking about you. However, anybody who is panicking that this means OD and DR are gone need to chill out.
It would suck to lose them...but I dont think it would but a huge dent in us winning some games. Lets assume we lose Ryans and Daniels... That would give us 3 first round picks and 3 third round picks. You take Rolando McClain with your first rounder...the dude went to Alabama just like Ryans, but he's rated higher now than DeMeco was back then...he's also bigger than Ryans as well, but runs faster...scary combination of size and speed. Then, you can use the 3rd rounder to select Aaron Hernandez as a TE to replace Daniels and to compete with Casey. Now, you are left with 2 first round picks and 2 third round picks to complete the team. Imagine using the remaining first rounders on Brian Price and Earl Thomas or any other combination of talent. I really cant say we'd take too much of a hit if we lose Ryans and Daniels. In fact, I may even welcome that scenario. However, like its been mentioned...those two are going to be Texans next season, without a doubt.
The Texans actually used a poison pill contract to sign Kris Brown away from the Steelers. If I remember right, the Steelers were actually upset and made it clear they didn't like the way the Texans structured the deal.
Just because 32 teams made a mistake on Demeco doesn't mean McClain was/is a better player. Guess what, Brian Cushing was great his rookie year partially because Demeco was lining him up every down and making sure he was in the right place. This team loses Demeco and the defense will fall like a house of cards.
Rezdawg, I get ya. The picks would be great to have, I'm always for upgrading the team if given the chance. The only thing is, the players drafted are not sure things, OD and Ryans are. I'm not freaking out like it kinda looks from my post. I believe they'll be here too, it's a very smart business decision on the Texans part. Guess my concern would be "if" we lost them I think it would hurt short term. We def have other capable TE's in place, but you saw how the offense sputtered the first four games when OD went out. Anyway, I'm with ya, think they'll be here, and I appreciate the conversation
I hope the Texans don't draft a running back in the 1st round. I think this is a very deep draft for running backs and you could find a solid one between rounds 3-7 like a Ben Tate, Anthony Dixon, Toby Gerhart, LeGarrette Blount, or James Starks. I much rather see them upgrade either the interior offensive line, defensive tackle, cornerback, and free safety positions. I am not ready to give up on Steve Slaton yet. I also like the Texans rookie running backs from last year in Arian Foster and Jeremiah Johnson.
Here's an article on Steve Slaton . Nothing we don't know about already, but if you are looking to kill three minutes give it a read.
I never said McClain is better than DeMeco...I said McClain is rated higher now than DeMeco was back then. That is not the same as "McClain is better than DeMeco". What that does mean is that McClain has tons of talent and has potential to be as good as or better than Ryans. Also, McClain being bigger and faster isn't an opinion. Cushing, in many ways, also made things easier for DeMeco...its a 2 way street. There is no doubt that Cushing has talent, with or without Ryans. Did DeMeco help Cushing...yeah...but thats not to say that Brian wouldnt have been a beast on another team. In fact, if you look at Ryans, he still wasnt the same player last year as he was the first 2 seasons he was in the league. However, because of Cushing, our LB corp was still nop notch.
Report that Dunta allegedly might be headed to the Falcons http://blogs.nfl.com/2010/03/04/wyche-robinson-likely-headed-to-atlanta/ As a full-time starter in his prime, Dunta Robinson is considered the top cornerback on the free-agent market. As such, he might not be available long. NFL.com senior writer Steve Wyche said on NFL Total Access on Thursday that “all indications from people I’ve spoken to is that he will end up with the Atlanta Falcons.” It makes sense — the Falcons are thin at cornerback, where they’ve already brought back veteran Brian Williams, who was signed off the street last season and became the starter before a season-ending knee injury. “Apparently, a lot of people in that front office have been high on Dunta Robinson for years, hoping he would be free,” Wyche said
And I'm repeating to you verbatim from another player on the team. The defense would be a train wreck without Demeco.
I agree. Were to close right now to lose a key contributor. But you have access, any inside info? Any free agent talk?
Dude, he's obviously the leader of the defense and Im sure his teammates think very highly of him...but, Demeco isnt the only player in the NFL that can play MLB. When you replace talent with talent, things dont fall apart.
I have maintained all off season, that the Texans would do next to nothing. Bob's going to pocket a fat chunk of change in reduced salaries and use that in CBA negotiation in 2011. He is the lead dog in the owner group angling for a massive reduction in player share of the pie. It doesn't mean the team won't be good next season, but I expect few if any splashes.
I was just looking at the Texans website and noticed John David Booty and Darnell Bing were listed on the roster. When were they signed?
makes sense. Just hope the team takes the next step or there will be hell to pay with the fans I'm guessing. I know you're busy but you should post a little more. Not to be sucking your knee caps or anything, but glad you and Adam scored the 790 gig. I listen, and have never listened to that station. You guys help make the station legit IMO.
About a week or so after the regular season ended. Since Grossman won't be back with the team next season, I believe Orlovsky is the back-up with Booty as #3.
The best RB Free Agent in this offseason is Chester Taylor it would be great that the Texans signed him, but I dont think its going to happen.
