Until I see the Texans sign their first elite-level free agent (no offense Antonio Smith), I'm going to assume that McNair would rather Rick Smith keep his hand out of that candy jar altogether.
Antrel Rolle anyone? http://profootball.scout.com/2/949639.html He's 28, familiar with Frank Bush and been to a Super Bowl. I'm all for drafting Thomas IF he's available but if Rolle hit's the open market, you have to at least take a look.
I would not mind signing rolle and then taking a DT/CB in the first round. Thy need to sign a free agent starter at some point. No great teams exclusively build through the draft.
How do yall feel about taking hometown Rhodes Scholar and All American; Myron Rolle ? (Provided he can play FS)
I don't think Myron Rolle has any ties other than being born here. He was raised in New Joysie. As far as Antrel Rolle goes, we need to upgrade at the FS spot, but he won't be cheap, especially with it being an uncapped year. He will have to want to come here and play for Bush. If the scenario played out like this: ditch Dunta, resign Pollard, sign Rolle, and draft a corner with one of our first 2 picks, I'd consider our secondary to be a strength next season.....which we haven't been able to say ever.
Yeah, that's what I'm afraid of. It really sucks that the only good owner in town is Les. I like Drayton, but his utter lack of appreciation for player development killed our chances of reloading. And I really have no clue what McNair's doing besides keeping his good ole boys around for years of mediocrity. *Sighs*
Mcnair has done so much for this city. Give the man his props. According to USA Today, the Texans payroll for 2009 was over 120 M, which is one of the highest in the league.
Adam_Schefter Best I can tell, there are four potential landing spots for former Jets RB Thomas Jones: Cleveland, Seattle, San Diego and Houston.
McNair is a great owner. We've showed steady impovement over the last three years, despite what our records were. I don't think he's just "keeping the good ole boys around" ... there is plenty of pressure on Kubiak and Smith, and they will have to get this team to the playoffs this year if they want to stay. The strong finish plus no viable alternatives (spare me on Cowher, etc) is why Kubiak is still here. Otherwise we'd just be taking our chances on another coordinator.
I love this guy. You can always use an intelligent, High IQ football player on the field and in the locker room. Hopefully he falls because people think he's not really committed to playing football.
I honestly think that Thomas Jones should be one of our top priorities. Guy would be a perfect fit here...
I'd love the Texans to snatch Legarrette Blount in a mid round. He looks like a stud with a chip on his shoulder. I like that.
NFL payroll ranking is pretty meaningless because teams generally just spend near the cap. Basically he's not a penny-pincher. But he certainly has not tried to spend money in the coaching market. I do give McNair props for bringing NFL to Houston. It's definitely more fun to root for your own team than having to "adopt" one like I did during the in-between years. But the city has more than given back by making him even more filthy rich. So I really want to see that money put into the team. Especially given this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to abuse the system.
I definitely hope the Texans know what they're doing with Walters and Dunta and possibly Demeco. It doesn't look like they do so far though
Looks like the Ravens may pursue Walter... http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2010/03/03/ravens-looking-hard-at-walter/
