The dude is a workhorse and has proven himself. He needs not prove anything else. He's just stirring the pots and getting things moving. But I agree, he shouldn't be talking until he's 100% again. I support Owen Daniels and would love nothing more than for him to sign again with us LONG TERM and for him to get paid what he deserves. Get well, OWEN!

i think this is a little posturing but i'm sure he is pretty upset about what happened to him last year, ie. he came in with a 1 yr deal and worked hard to "earn" a multi-year deal to only get hurt.

He has no right to be upset about anything other than his bad luck.

The Texans have done nothing malicious on the part of Daniels.

I think perhaps he meant upset at his luck moreso than at the Texans?

Well, he is obviously upset with the Texans, as he was last year with his facebook pout-fest.

well that's true, but it easy to understand how one would be a little disgruntled about everything.

OD and Demeco are going to get the shaft this offseason. I don't know the full details, but with the CBA expiring I believe most free agents move to restricted status even if they should have been unrestricted.

This means OD and Demeco will be tendered by the Texans first at very modest rates, and if another team goes after them they have to surrender draft picks on top of paying them more. Last I heard was the DeMeco would be tendered a little over $3 million, which is an absolute steal, and for another team to grab him would cost two first round picks. Of course the Texans would be able to match the offer if they want to keep him.

I have a feeling it'll get as ugly as the Dunta situation, but there is nothing they can really do about it being restricted.

I hate to say it but the Texans will be losing OD or Demeco because I don't see the Texans matching more then 4 mil tops for each player

You think? I dont see the Texans having a problem paying them that much, specially in an uncapped year. They are both pro-bowl players...if we arent willing to pay them 4 million, then we shouldnt expect to ever have talent on the team.

i think they will gladly pay that and more for demeco. He is the leader of the defense.

I don't think OD would be offered 4 mill a year given his injury situation

I would franchise tag Owen, make sure he is still at an elite status this season, and then reward him with a big deal next year

They are both restricted and the Texans would tender them with a high tender so if they sign with another team the Texans would get a 1st and a 3rd round pick (unless they traded them at which point they can take whatever the two teams agree to). DeMeco, in particular, is going nowhere.

There's no reason to, isn't he still under contract til the end of next year? At least as an RFA. So we'd get picks if somebody offered him.

Daniels signed a one-year $2.792 million deal last June. Because of the CBA expiring, Daniels becomes a restricted free agent instead of an unrestricted free agent. Under the current CBA, players were free agents after four years. Now that the CBA was terminated free agency isn't until six years.

The Texans have until March 4 to tender Daniels and the other restricted free agents. If they fail to do so then they become unrestricted free agents on March 5.

Here's an article from the Texans explaining it a bit better and it gives a list of the restricted and unrestricted free agents on the Texans roster:

Oh Well, The Pats put the tag on Vince Wilfolk. I really wanted the Texans to grab him.

I guess that means Moss goes bye bye?

Ahhhh man! I really wanted him...I cant imagine he's too happy about that.

Would have been great to nab him and not have to worry about using a top pick on DT in the draft.

The decision to franchise a player or not has to come by Thursday, right?

Yes. Thursday is the last day a team can place the franchise or transition tag on a player.

If a player isn't tagged he becomes a free agent on March 5. He can then sign with any team.
