You're forgetting Owen Daniels who had 40 catches for 500 yards in half a season. A very potent offense on paper.
Of course you figure Owen into the mix. If you had an LT (or even a healthy Slaton, for that matter) in the running game, and those receivers in the mix, coupled with a decent offensive line, that could put up some record offensive stats. A pedestrian defense would/should get that team into the playoffs. An average to slightly above average defense, like ours (especially once you add another safety or corner, and a free agent or two), should take this team over the final hump.
Yeah, I don't see the Texans going offense early in the draft unless it's for a RB. Maybe an O-linemen.
Kevin Walter does so much dirty work, especially blocking down field - I would hate to lose him. Any guess at the money difference in what it would take to resign Walter vs letting him go and filling his spot with a 2nd round pick contract?
Not many rookie WR's make a huge impact early in the NFL. Chances are, even picking a talented guy in the 2nd round, that there would be a decent dropoff from what we have in Kevin Walter. I think Walter is vastly undervalued by fans and media...he's got great hands and is a good blocker. His numbers were down this year with OD breaking out and then Jacoby stepping up.
We don't have much of a track record on Jacoby yet. He's always had the ability to be a #2 WR, but his health issues and attitude haven't been great. I would wait at least one more season before I considered jettisoning Kevin Walter.
Gilyard would definitely be a bargain pick in the 2nd. Call me a homer, but I actually like Shipley over Gilyard for the Texans. Shipley would be the perfect slot receiver for this team IMO. He's a polished route runner and has incredible hands. He caught a lot of short passes at UT so I think he could really thrive working underneath AJ like Welker/Moss. He also gives us another option at PR/KR. If we do let Walter walk, I think Shipley could fill in w/o missing much of a beat, if any at all.
I like, and value, Kevin Walter but I would not break the bank to bring him back; anything longer than 3 years is out and I wouldn't offer more than what the league average is for an NFL wideout. That said I'd be thrilled to have him back under those conditions.
Here is a youtubey of someone I want locked up...Call him the "bonecrusher", "Mr. fear the spear", or even almost pro-bowler...Pair this guy with E.T. from the draft and I will be quite happy! http://64.15.120.233/watch?v=GYgl5NnpdAs&feature=related
I think Jacoby proved himself to be a capable #2 last season. I really like what Walters has done, but David Andersen is a smaller clone of him. I would offer him a 1-2 year deal at most, and not give up a lot of money
Dont think he would be to much of a help to our team. He's injured to often and can be a headache off the field.
If JJ has proven anything it's that he's very unpredictable. His only consistency being that if he screws up big time, he'll probably make up for it later in the game. Even if he's a push right now, it's not a big stretch to say he could be a capable playmaking #2. If he wasn't bailed out of that bobbled punt against the Titans, and we ended up 8-8 from losing that game, I would have no problem cutting him from the team and badmouthing him to all other GMs in the league.
Exactly...why the topic of the month is changing WR pecking order, no idea. I'd rather us have less spectacular and more consistency, ahem Walter as the 2nd option at WR...Besides we have both attributes with AJ and we are what? the best passing offense? Let's keep what is working, keep 'em, pay 'em, but of course eye next season to see who is consistent or not during the year. I think a lot of fans don't realize the quality and depth we have out of our top 4 WR's. I'd put our top 4 of AJ, Walter, Jones, Anderson against anyone's top 4...Next...
Man, I just can't stop imagining where this team would have been if we had a running back. The D wasn't too shabby....the Offense was awesome.....just...that short yardage back. C.Brown...blah... At least that last guy showed he had some legs, can't remember his name. Like adrian or something. Can't wait till next season. I'm obsessed with the Texans and Football in general. Didn't start watching it till 2002....my first year back in the USA since living over seas. Now, it's become my favorite sport, where Basketball used to rule in my heart. TEXANS!
That's the spirit! I'm excited as hell. All of the naysayers and grouches can eat me. Even with the schedule looking like murderer's row, I can't help but think that it really means nothing, since there's so much parody and turnover in the league.
