Dom Capers and Kerry Collins got to the NFC Championship game in his Kerry's second year in Carolina's second year of existance.

then Kerry had some peronal problems with alcohol.

I still have Manning ahead of Carr... maybe I'll be proved wrong in the long haul?

Absolutely. That is what separates good receivers from great receivers.

Having the ability to put the ball in a place, where the receiver can get it, and not the defensive back is a positive reflection on both the WR and the QB.

Perhaps. Dom did have 1 good year as a head coach. Too bad he didn't use it here.

No it was a great post, but only if you want Kerry Collins leading your team.

It is EXACTLY why I want Carr to go, you guys are satisfied with a mediocre QB.....and a hope to win.

I want a QB that will LEAD the team to victories.....

Whenever people have a belief in one player or coach, it makes them all play harder, Vince Young has "IT" the same thing that Jordan had, that Favre had, that Roger Stabach had......that extra something that elevates everyone around them.

Leadership is more important than athletic talent, and Vince has BOTH !!

Reggie Bush is going to be a good player, but Vince (IMHO) will be a GREAT player.

And, I want him on my hometown team !

Manning has Barber, Shockey, Burress and Toomer. Give Carr weapons like that and let's see what he can do.

    prophecy fufilled!! :D

just kidding DD.. but seriously, the point of that post wasn't to show how Carr = Collins.. it was to show you just how unwritten the book is on Carr yet.

it's all well and good to love VY, but to say you can fairly judge the rest of Carr's career by now is straight up bullhoggery.

Like I said, check out Aikman and Favre's first 3-4 years. Not exactly burning up the stat sheets.

And those guys didn't even go to an expansion team...

You can't call Carr Kerry Collins though. In fact, except arm strenght they have nothing in common.

Who says they are satisfied with a mediocre QB? Just because others still have confidence in Carr doesn't mean we're satisfied with mediocrity. It means we think that Carr can be a good or even great QB.

Vince has "it" at the college level. That may not translate into the pros. We have no idea how he will play until he lines up under center. Saying he has "it" like Jordan, Favre and Stabach is premature to say the least.

In the end it's all about opinions. I would bet a large sum of cash that Reggie Bush is an impact player in the NFL. I wouldn't do the same with Vince. It's not about what i think either (because i think Young will be good) but I see the possibility of a down side. I don't see that in Bush. The only thing I've heard people argue is size (which has been disproven already by the fact we listed other backs with similar stature and it's something he can add) and the fact that he can't run inside or handle a lot of carries. If you watch highlight films you see him run inside plenty and while he may have only carried the ball 15 times a game you have to take into account his touches as a receiver, KR and PR. In the NFL, that will be reduced to receiver and RB.

Jesus tapdancing Christ, he's not calling Carr a mediocre QB. He's showing that Carr is putting up numbers comparable to other good QBs at the same stage of their careers while being surrounded with much worse teammates, so it's way too early to declare him a bust and bring in a new QB.

There's no way in hell Vince Young could do a better job with this team, considering that:
    1) Carr gets a bunch of balls batted down at the line of scrimmage because the OL can't keep tabs on opposing lines. With Vince's sidearmed throwing motion, a ton of his passes will get batted down as well.
    2) I didn't watch many UT games so correct me if I'm wrong, but Young was deadly in college because the threat of his speed kept defenses worried about if he was going to run or pass. NFL defenses are a lot faster than college defenses, and if they can keep a 4.3 guy like Mike Vick in check, I seriously doubt that a 4.5-4.6 guy like Vince would be able to run at will on them.

Really? That's odd. Favre, in his 3rd and 4th seasons, threw for over 8,000 yards, with 71 TDs and 27 INTs. Aikman, in his 4th season, threw for 3400 yards (the most in his 12 year career) with 23 TDs (also a 12-year career high) and 14 INTs, and won a Superbowl. (Favre won his in his 5th year)

I don't think those are the best people to compare with...

Well somebody is going to be right and somebody wrong, or everybody is right and nobody is wrong, or everybody is wrong... oh never mind. :D

At least I screamed my head off in disbelief when we drafted Rodney McCray instead of Clyde

I was mad as all get out when we passed on Rashad Lewis

I couldn't stand it when we signed Tony Hollings for a 2nd round pick
I was really upset when we gave up 3 nice draft picks to move up and take Jason Babin.

I almost lost it when we gave up picks for P. Buchanon (someone I told my boys was a poor CB)

I thought the Seth Wand pick was strange

I couldn't understand why in the world we would use a decent pick on Patrick Ramsey.

And I told my boys when they passed Derrick Johnson last season in the draft that the personnel people had just about tanked the roster.

It doesn't take an expert to see bad moves galore.

I predicted this team at the start of the season would tank, I was giving them 4-5 wins.

I am no expert or predictor of future events. I just watch alot and guess like the rest of you. I feel good I am on a roll at times guessing.

My guess is David Carr will be better but never take us to the playoffs.
Reggie Bush will be a good back but not on the level of Barry Sanders.
The best NFL running back coming out of this draft will not be Bush.
If the Texans draft R Bush I predict that DD if healthy will have more rushing yards and rushing attempts that Bush at the end of the season.

And Vince Young is also a big gamble.. just one so rare and potentially high that I could not pass on him...

Quite frankly if Casserly wasn't GM a trade of this pick for 4-5 good picks could actually turn the team around.

With Casserly I don't expect much unless he surprises, that would be so sweet.

I could forget that he ruined the roster these last 4 seasons if he could hit a home run and draft 3-5 very good players/starters who can make impact plays.

I would be a jumping on the Casserly wagon if that happened!

    Figured that was coming.

Go back to my original post for explinations as to why I feel that Carr's situation is not comparable to virtually any QB.. but if you have to compare it, use an altered scale due to the circumstances.

Collins didn't stay with Carolina, so we don't know what that outcome would have been, either.

In short, 2005 Texans team does not equal 1994 Packers/Cowboys teams, unfair comparison.

Also, you left off the fact that Favre sat out his first season in the NFL... so his "third year" was actually his fourth.

    Those were actually Favre's 4th and 5th seasons (3rd and 4th as a starter).

I agree that Carr's situation is not comparable - but you're the one who said "Like I said, check out Aikman and Favre's first 3-4 years. Not exactly burning up the stat sheets."

I think comparing QB's #s to others early in their careers is a bad idea, all around. I'm sure plenty of great QB's had bad numbers early, and vice-versa, so any young QB could compare favorably or badly to the greats and sucky QB's.

It's the same with the NBA - its stupid to compare someone's first couple of years with Kevin Garnett and use that as evidence he could become the next Garnett. What makes Garnett great is that he continued to get better. Plenty of NBA busts had similarly good numbers during their first several years too.

All you can do to evaluate what Carr might become is look at what you see of his play. Will adding a new receiver / O-Line make him better? Or does he have flaws beyond that which won't be fixed by adding talent? I have no idea the answer to that. I suspect, as highly regarded as he was, he can be far better. The same was said about many other players who ended up busts regardless. Ultimately, it's all conjecture on both sides.

Imagine, just a moment, that the 2005 season never happened.

Look at Carr's numbers. The Texans' overall performance. Are you satisfied? Do you feel that Carr is progressing on schedule?

    I do.

Add in this year and it all goes to hell, however.

How can we explain the performance from the team this year? Did Carr all the sudden forget how to throw a spiral? Did he forget what a blitz looks like? Did he unlearn his audibles? I'm guessing not. Carr is the same Carr he was. I'm guessing what changed is the pieces around him. Did Carr make mistakes? Sure. But I saw a bad -team- out there, not a bad quarterback.

I'm not going to let this one year make me forget about the progress that was made before. Carr showed us he is capable of leading this team, even as mediocre as it had been. Nobody can lead a terrible team, however.

I wouldn't be surprised if Carr returned right back to his '04 form in '06, at LEAST. Unless the team is terrible again... but I'm not going to entertain that negative thought for now :)

I guess what I'm trying to say is this is a marathon, not a race.. there are going to be good parts and bad, speaking of Aikman and Favre (not to mention a few other superbowl QBs like McNair and Bledsoe).. they each had some bad years in their prime (Favre: 99/00, Aikman: 94/96).. my guess is their teams were worse those years.. they didn't individually regress, their teams performance did not put them in a position to excell..

Yep. I bet if you pull up a scouting report on McNabb or McNair arm strength or the ability to make throws won't be a question.
