If Bush wasn't in the draft I would be looking to trade the #1 pick to aquire more draft choices. I have concerns about DD's durability, his lack of big play ability and his poor pass blocking. The Hollings pick didn't turn out (I'd be a liar if i said I was against it though because i had no clue at the time). I like Wells as a backup and i thought Morency was another wasted pick by Casserly. I'm not sold on DeAngelo Williams being a superstar but I would definitely be looking at Alexander and James via FA (if we can't score Nate Clements or one of the good OL's). I like DD but he's not a franchise back. The fact that he can't block makes it even harder for me to defend him.

Consequently, I don't believe Carr has had a fair chance. He's athletic and has a huge arm. He also can make all the throws. He has worked with no o-line, a running game that lacks a big play threat, no TE and 1 reciever (who gets double teamed all the time). DD doesn't have star potential, Carr does.

I don't see why VY is the better pick. He's at least a year away from even stepping onto the field. If the texans feel that david Carr is a good QB who can lead this team why would you draft another player? I will continue to point to the Brees/Rivers situation because it's very similar here.

If Young wasn't in the draft (answer honestly) would you be looking to replace David Carr with the #1 pick?

The same goes both ways. There are 2 extraordinary players that may or may not significantly improve the weapons on offense. I have said this before; It is my personal opinion that adding Bush to the cast of offensive talent that we have would add more targets than drafting Young. Young only improves the running game when he runs the ball (specifically play action). Outside of that, you rely on his passing game, which may or may not fit in Kubiak's strategy.

After the combine and interviews, if Kubiak sees something, he might lean towards Young. I tend to think that Young has more to prove, because he is a QB. Reggie just has to be Reggie and showcase his athleticism. I don't think he's going to have a problem with that.

That was my point, Kas13 wrote exactly the same thing you did and I was just pointing out it works both ways.

I knew you were going to say that. I remembered what you made fun of me about after i posted and almost edited but figured it would be more amusing to see if you went after it again (which you did). It's not a big deal, certainly not worth taking on a life of it's own in this thread.

I have a sense of humor as well. I just don't think what you posted was funny. Spelling errors, Freudian slips, ect aren't really funny typically in my eyes. The Bush thing would have been funny if you were a Bush supporter. If i had done that and you had called me out i would have laughed about it. That simply wasn't the case. You may very well have a sense of humor but i haven't seen you demonstarate it here. Maybe I'm missing something.

I don't actually think making fun of illiterate people is funny but some of the posts that come on these boards are simply ridiculous.

Skip Bayless just said on Rome's show that he is 100% sure that the Texans will take Vince Young.

I pretty much agree with what you say here with one caveat. IMO VY has to show major flaws (weak arm for the deep out, very erratic deep balls?) for him not be seen as the best prospect in some time. VY proved he was an unbelievable college football player with freakish athleticism (in Leinart's terms) and great intangibles (poise, leadership). He put on the most dominant display by an individual many long time college football observers have ever seen, the burden is on seeing big time flags that have a good chance to being insurmountable for him being an elite college QB. I haven't seen anything like that (seems to have a plenty strong arm and plenty accurate arm in the pocket or on the run), but I am sure the scouts can get a better feel during workouts.

As for Bush, I would only select him if 1) VY does have huge red flags; 2) he puts on the best workouts scouts have seen in a running back or say the last 10 years. Otherwise I just think the opportunity cost--huge contract in positions (RB/KR) already of strength (Davis/Mathis) for a position notorious for short careers when you need other holes (Oline, WR/TE, defense) covered more is too high.

-So take VY if he has excellent workouts.

-If that doesn’t happen take Bush if he is the best RB prospect (better than LaDTom) the Texans have seen since they have been around.

-If neither is the case, trade down to the Jets at #4 (plus their 06 3rd rounder, plus their 07 1st rounder) and take DBrick

-or trade down to #6/#7 to Oak/SF (they take RB or VY) plus their 2nd in 06, 1st in 07 and 3rd in 07, something like that. Where with #6/#7 the Texans take DBrick (if he fell, unlikely), Hawk (LB), Mario Williams (DE), Vernon Davis (TE) or trade down even further (picking up still further value this year and next) to someone desperate to get Culter or another, and have the 1st Texan pick for 06 being midway in the first for say Santonio Holmes (WR), Winston Justice (#2 OT behind DBrick), Greenway (LB), Leonard Pope (#2 TE behind Davis), or Hali (DE, looks a lot like Freeney or Suggs to me), with boatloads of picks accumulated for later in 06 and 07.

Then Skip Bayless lost any credibility that he has. Nobody knows 100% what we are doing yet. Skip Bayless isn't exactly what I would call a football authority either. I hate the guy and Woody Paige as well so I'll admit i'd be biased to anything either of those two said.

Bush isn't exactly a great pass blocker, in fact, I doubt he is any better than DD. Carroll never really used RB as a pass blocker because I don't how many 6ft 200lbs running backs can block a 6-5 250lbs DE coming as fast as he can.

I personally think DeAngelo Williams will be a suprise pick of the draft. His numbers are unbelievable and when you factor in that he had 1/2 the OL Reggie had, I think he will be a good back.

I agree that we should look at Alexander via FA, but not sure how much he'll be looking for and not sure if Seattle will even let him walk (we'll know more after Sunday). The Edge's age is a little concerning to me.

I don't think this is a fair statement. I think we can all agree that DD has outperformed Carr in their career's and now it's DD that doesn't have star potential (even though he's shown it) and Carr does?

DD is on an elite list of RBs who have rushed 1000 yards their first 3 years, he was a sleeper pick that turned out very well for us. He showed more his rookie season than Carr has his entire career. His durability is a little concerning, but like I said, DD/Wells/Morency/Hollings is a stable enough core of RBs so that we don't need to spend a #1 overall pick on another.

The only thing consistent about this Texans franchise is how the blame has never been put on Carr. Sure the OL hasn't been great, but how long will they be used as the scapegoat for Carr? Carr has had a free ride since he's been here in my opinion. A lot of people have made Carr out to be the victim. He's as big as the problem as any other in this franchise.

Okay? Well, that turned out to be a pretty good situation for Brees/Chargers since he went straight to the probowl after that.

But I think it's more in the lines of the Kitna/Palmer situation. Kitna actually had a much, much better season than Carr did when they drafted Palmer. Kitna threw for 3600 yards and 26 TDs, his best season by far. Yet, the Bengals still thought Palmer was too good to pass up.

I'm ok with everyone getting their own opinion, but most of these are just plain empty or lame.

    Here were his reasons:

    - Houston Native with first pick potential. Would San Francisco 49ers pick alex smith over vince young - ??? What the hell is this about? Who gives a **** about SF.

    - Best performance in a national championship against nfl type players - Really? I honestly don't see the majority of USC's defense playing in the NFL, but that's just me.

    - Espn college game day crew all chose Young as number one - Yup. I'm sold. What was I thinking.

    - X factor in terms of leadership and belief OK. Vince is an X-Factor, but belief? What does that mean?

    - LaDainian Tomlinson who I consider the best running back in the NFL is not in the playoffs And Steve McNair is?

    - David Carr is not a winner Care to explain why. Putting all the blame on Carr, when Carr didn't have the right peices supporting him is just stupid. If UT had an o-line as proportionately bad as the Texans, they would not have been in the Rose Bowl. Neither would Lienart or Bush. This is just a cheap shot. What an a-hole.

    - New orleans saints will probably pick leinart which means Tennasee titans will pick Young. Same division as the texans!! OH NOOO, the Titans are going to pick Young!!! Let's run and hide!!! This is football, idiot. If I even thought that the owner was thinking that, I wouldn't be a Texans fans.

    - LenDale White may have more rushing yards then Bush in the NFL Yup, and Lienart may more passing yards than Young. I'm sold.

    - Texas owners two sons went to Texas Longhorns mmm kay...

Son's: "Daddy, we want Young, because we went to UT" boo hoo
Daddy McNair: "Shut-up b****... Go fix me turkey pot pie!!!"

All kidding aside, I didn't see very much analysis. Even reading his article, but that's just me.

But if he said the same thing about Bush, I'm sure a lot of people would be running around gloating "I told you so."

In fact they have. Many have also said there's no way we're taking a QB.

However, if you think Bayless had any credibility before this, then there's your mistake right there. :)

Skip Bailess also called Manu Ginobili the best player in the NBA. He also said that USC should be favored over Texas in the Rose Bowl not by 7, but by 17.

Skip Bailess is an idiot that likes getting peoples attention by making outlandish statements. Not that I'm saying drafting VY is crazy, but just pointing out that Bailess is an idiot.

I don't think Bayless has any more credibility than other of the ESPN guys. I'm just saying that if he would have said the same thing about Bush, there probably would have been a new thread over it.

Skip Bayless said Vince Young could be the Michael Jordan of the NFL.

But you don't get radio time for knowing stuff, you get on for saying controversial stuff that gets a reaction from the audience

Chill chill chill, none of our impassioned arguments is going to have any influence with the Texans's anyway.........unless Chance can arrange a huge Pick Vince rally outside of Reliant the night before the draft!!!!

I just can't stand that guy. At a network and an entire industry, honestly, full of blowhard idiots, he takes the cake.

Actually, Bush is a great pass blocker. He picks up blitzes extremely well and then has an uncanny abaility to sometimes recover and release. It's actually one of his strengths.

I think Williams has a chance to be really good as well but he's not intriguing enough to make me pass on a Bush , Young or even a Ferguson on a trade down)

If we plan on trading down then we should definitely make a run at one of those two. Edge's age is somewhat concerning (injuries concern me more) but he seems to have been extremely productive even as he ages. I think he has 3 really good years left in him.

DD has outperformed Carr but they are in two completely different situations. Our OL isn't bad at run blocking, they just can't pass block to save their lives. DD isn't part of that elite group that you speak of. He would have made it to 1000 easy but he got hurt again and finished in the mid 900's. DD doesn't have superstar potential. What you're seeing now is what you get. He's solid, actually pretty good, but he lacks explosiveness and is always hurt. Carr has the tools to be a star, he just hasn't put them together 9you can argue a variety of reasons why).

Hollings is worthless. Wells is a good backup. I don't have any clue why we picked Morency. He hasn't shown me much though.

It turned out well for the Chargers because they provided Brees weapons to which to work with. I don't think drafting Rivers had anything to do with his success. If anything, it put more pressure on him to perform. LT, Gates, McCardell and deep threats on offense gave Brees a chance top have an effective offense. It's doubtful they could even get a first round pick for Rivers right now. They could have used that pick more wisely, now they have a pro bowl QB and a guy who wants to be traded. What if this happens with Carr. Do you want to trade the guy you used the #1 overall pick on without him ever playing a meaningful snap for you? I certainly don't.

The organization hasn't put the blame on Carr but he's been flamed by the media and the fans. He's been booed repeatedly at home games so I think you assessment of him not shouldering any blame is inaccurate. They even poored beer on his family. It actually seems like everyone wants to blame carr and the OL everywhere you go. This is one of the few places where I've actually seen some other fans who stand up for Carr.

Kitna is a reliable QB but is older and certainly isn't a franchise guy. Despite having a great season he doesn't have the tools Carr has. It's a fair comparison though

Did he really say Manu Ginobli was the best player in the NBA? I would love a link to that so I could send it to ESPN and show them why people consider most of their experts information complete bs.

He said it last year on cold pizza after Manu went off for a couple good games. Just crazy.
