how can someone be so attached to a player?

Hey, he's from Houston. He went to UT. Vince Young rules, Whooo! Don't mess with VY! All my buddies that like VY rule!

Maybe I'll get a "VY" tattoo.

That's never happened in the history of sports until VY came along.

i know that is sarcasm, but so was my post. Rimrocker's post mocking Bush just b/c he likes to represent his hometown in such a manner is just plain dumb. Knock a guy down for his skills (or lack thereof), for his behavior or demeanor, but don't knock him down b/c he's proud of where he's from.

it's like saying someone's an idiot for wearing sports jerseys of players from their hometown.

I don't think macula's post meant there was anything wrong with that. I think he was showing how just like people here are attached to VY because he is from their hometown, Reggie is attached to his area code because it represents his hometown.

    I can't believe I'm debating area codes. Still. :)

It's definitely better than the epic "Is Reggie Bush 6'0 tall? Or...is Reggie Bush merely 5'11.5"?" debate.

Nonsense, that debate was a moment of CROWNING GLORY and VINDICATION the likes of which have rarely been seen.

Young is out of the mix per Charley Casserly -- now it's just Mario and Bush...

I think in the end it will be Mario.

I don't know if you're joking or not but I'll make a sig bet with you that it will be Bush. You can have the entire rest of the draft field for the Texans first pick.

To elaborate, VY is not out of the mix per casserly , he's out of the mix per Bob McNair. I think this has already been reported ( it's out in the media already) but McNair has become seriously involved in this pick. His guy is Bush and that's who they plan on picking (since they weren't able to get an acceptable trade offer). The Texans really were open to trading the pick.

That's interesting info ~ my opinion on the Texans taking Mario just comes from the little things i've been reading 'here and there' as well as the way Kubiak is building the team with a 'win now' philosophy. Mario would be a quicker impact player since he will be involved in more plays than Reggie - particularly as a rookie. The main thing i'm feeling is that Kubiak wants Mario and is pushing hard for him.

Just out of curiousity, where did you read that about Kubiak? And do you not think that Reggie Bush is ready to impact the team now?

Bush is McNair's guy. When the evaluation process first started the Texans were looking at 4 players seriously (Bush, VY, Williams and Ferguson). They were open to trade the pick but have always asked for a king's ransom (basically a deal nobody is making).

After all the workouts and interviews were completed Bush was McNair's guy. A lot of people in the organization liked both Bush and Williams and McNair stepped up quite a bit. VY fell out of the picture when they decided on Carr. IMHO he never really had a chance to come here unless Kubiak had told everyone that he didn't think Carr was the right player for this team. Kubiak likes both guys but isn't pushing harder for either (if he is it's way behind the scenes and it's not info that anyone is getting a hold of).

I've heard for the past two weeks that bush was going to be the pick for sure. The deal is almost done so let's look forward to seeing Reggie in a texan uniform next year.

KAS - could you clarify any of this. This was Bongo's latest post on the Texans board.

I had not heard about Williams coming to Houston today. I can clarify a few things he said:

I don't know if CC has them rated the same but that doesn't mean anything to the Texans. It's McNair's choice and he has Bush rated above Mario. Unless the rumors about Kubiak are true then CC would be the only person in the organization to have Williams ahead of Bush. Bush wants to go #1 badly and they have been working hard to get a deal done (one that I've been told is almost finished). He has adjusted his asking price and wants to be a Texan. As far as I know Bush should have a deal in place by Friday. I have no idea why they would be bringing Williams back to Houston (unless they continue to mess with the Bush camp b/c it has lowered his price so far). In terms of signability, if the texans think that Bush was going to hold out into the season or were way apart on numbers then it would effect their choice but from everything I've heard they are very, very close. That's what i know right now. I'm going to make a call right now though to see if I can find out anything.
