95% chance the Texans draft Bush, 20% (of 95%) they trade Bush to a team with an offer they can't refuse (e.g., SF).

Teams looking to trade for their choice of VY or ML pretty much know they work through NO; the cost working up to #2 is a lot less than to #1 which forces Hou to give up their shot at Bush.

I think you are right. I think they draft Bush and watch and see how the next picks unfold. If Tennessee went for Lienhart and Young was sitting ther at #4 or if NY took somebody else and Young is still sitting there at #5......well, I think it could get interesting.

I do not think we are going to trade Carr right now, even if we drafted Vince. I think Carr plays and throws up numbers and increases his trade value.

In the long run, if we could pick up Vince and picks for Bush and then develop Carr so he could be moved for more talent, I think we would be better off. Great teams win championships and football is the ultimate team sport with at least 22 guys needed that are at least very good. The dynasties in this league, the Steelers and Cowboys of the 70s, and the Niners of the 80s, had major talent all over the field.................along with a top notch QB and very good tailbacks. If the Texans have the opportunity to pick up one of the 5 or 6 top rated players in this draft along with a whole hassle of other draft picks including next year's #1 for Reggie Bush, they would have to consider it. How much more would they have to consider it if Vince was still on the board when they were approached with the trade.

First round picks carry a hefty price tag.

I see the Texans continue using free agency as a short term rebuilding strategy. Use the high draft picks for starting caliber players and using the later rounds for depth and to develop players for the future.

Bush will be a Texan (IMO).

It would be the package offered with the pick, not the presence of Vince Young, that would convince the Texans to trade Bush away. And I still dont think a team with a "win now" philosophy wants a QB thats gonna sit on the bench when they could have AJ Hawk or D'Brick or Williams at #4 or #5.

I don't think we have a "win now" philosophy. I think we have a "compete now" philosophy, an "improve now" philosophy, and a "push for the playoffs now" philosophy. But McNair and Co. know it is going to be a couple years before we are primed to compete for Super Bowls. With that in mind, I think their time horizon is longer than just 2006. They are more concerned with being in a highly competitive situation for the next 10 years or so. It will take multiple talent to get to that stage.

I'll agree with that. But Vince does not fall into any of those strategies because of the second word...."now"

Are you saying we can't improve or compete for the playoffs without our #1 pick this year????

Bush will appeal to wear No. 5 in NFL
    By Stacey Pressman
    ESPN.com

How much trouble is a number worth?

Reggie Bush, projected as the No. 1 pick in the NFL Draft, thinks it's at least worth petitioning the league.

"I want to see if I can keep No. 5," Bush told ESPN The Magazine on the set of a Subway commercial he was shooting in Los Angeles.

The former USC running back and 2005 Heisman Trophy winner has been wearing that jersey number since high school. NFL rules, however, don't allow for running backs to take that number -- 33 years ago the league adopted a numbering system to make it easier for officials to differentiate players by position.

Under the rule, quarterbacks, punters and placekickers wear numbers 1 through 19. Running backs and defensive backs are assigned 20 through 49, while wide receivers and tight ends are given numbers 80 through 89.

Two years ago, due to the increasing amount of retired numbers and more wide receivers and tight ends coming into the league, the NFL allowed those position players to wear either 10-19 or 80-89. A number of wide receivers have been wearing lower-numbered jerseys since, among them Larry Fitzgerald of Arizona (11), Plaxico Burress of New York and Braylon Edwards of Cleveland (17), Randy Moss of Oakland (18) and Troy Williamson of Minnesota (19).

Bush wants to push it one step further to stick with No. 5.

"I think someone else was able to get their number changed, but even if they turn me down I think it's worth a try," Bush said.

NFL spokesman Greg Aiello declined to comment on Bush's plan to petition the league, though history is working against him. In 2004, running back Edgerrin James talked to the NFL about letting him wearing No. 5, which he had worn in Pop Warner, high school and at the University of Miami, but he was reportedly rebuffed.

Jersey numbers have turned into a big business. Players routinely have paid thousands of dollars for a jersey of their liking.

There has even been a lawsuit -- two years ago, Ifeanyi Ohalete agreed to sell No. 26 to his new Washington Redskins teammate Clinton Portis for $40,000. But Ohalete, who was released from the team before the season, sued after Portis didn't pay him half of the fee. The two eventually reached a settlement worth $18,000.

Bush has extra incentive to try to land No. 5. His Subway commercial, which debuted on Monday, encourages fans to "get inside No. 5" and features that number throughout the spot.

If Bush could somehow convince the league to allow him to wear No. 5, he's in luck if he gets drafted by the Houston Texans. No player on the team currently wears that number.

Said Bush: "If I have to pick a new number, I have no idea what it would be."

Well, let's see if he can punt. That'd solve it. Otherwise, just let him be a 3rd string qurterback.

Ya, not a very good article by McClain. First, there is almost no way Bush gets passed NO, while they may have bigger holes to fill, word is that the Saints are very high on Bush.

And I don't think anyone is convinced the Texans are considering Mario w/ the #1 overall pick. They need to meet w/ these guys so if they are available through a trade, they know who they are getting. I hope they also meet with D'Brick and possibly Hawk as well.

I really like Ashton Youboty and I'm not just saying that because I watched him when he played for Klein HS. Since next year's draft appears to be weak and playoff teams (who usually draft in the upper 20's) might love an opportunity to have a top 15 pick.

How about we trade next years 1 to move up into the late first round and maybe get him or another talented CB? I honestly see more talent in the later rounds this year than anything outside of the top 10 next year.

    maybe, maybe no?
