Yes. He was here for 3 years and I guess for only one at UH. In the 3 years he was here he set the school record for most career yards (8,933).

But that's really saying much since (Southwest) Texas State hadn't done anything since '83 until this year.

During the playoffs the announcers kept talking about how Mel Kiper had him rated as the #4 senior QB.

But honestly, I think that if he makes it in the NFL it'll be as a WR. I still think he'll get a shot at QB though.

    Young was better? hahaha

    Yea Right!!

He had a better rose bowl

White can be argued, but he was a system player.

Jason White's name should never be mentioned unless we're wanting to buy car insurance.

    Hey Bud,

For the record, I dont hate UT, and I am not a USC fan at all. My best friend went to UT and I had quite an amazing visit thier myself. I am just flabergasted at some of the UT fans narrow minded approach to this draft. Any moron can see that both Bush and Young are phenomenal players, but that Bush is just a better pick when its all said and done. Thats why it has been widely reported so early that BUsh will be the pick. My point is, if Vince Young went to any other school outside of Texas and led them to the Rose Bowl in exactly the same way..... This topic would not even be talked about on this board. When making a decision between these two players you can either use your head, or your heart. Mcnair and company are going the realistic route and using thier heads, while these UT fans are going with thier hearts!!! We just went through 4 years with a coach that caoched with his heart, that did not work, now its time to use our heads!!!!

Hmmm, you said you're not talking about stats, so what is your argument?

White: 11-1 w/ Blow out loss in NC game, but still a perfect reg. season
Young: 11-1 w/ Rose Bowl Victory
Reggie: 7-5 w/ Blow out loss in Cotton Bowl

    Take your pick.

    I'm flabbergasted with your spelling.

*---> 68% of Texan fans want hometown hero VY as the #1 overall draft pick. <---*

    whatever you want to believe

Reggie had a much better season than Vince. He led a mediocre team to the cotton bowl. He had one of the best td/int ratio in college, passed for 2700 yards and ran for 700. He was rated higher than both of them as a player and prospect.

Are you this dim? You said he had the best season in the Big 12. That is what is known as a superlative. Texas and Oklahoma are in the Big 12. If you're arguing best on awards or stats, White, the reigning Heisman champ and winner of 3 aforementioned "best QB awards", was a better QB. If you're arguing on leadership, VY (and White) led their teams to greater success.

For someone who whines about people seeing Young through burnt orange colored glasses, calling McNeal the best QB in the Big 12 in 2004 is flat out laughable.

Vince also had a top 10 pick RB on his team to carry a large portion of the load. If you have Benson and VY and your most talented receiving prospects are freshmen (Sweed, Pittman, Taylor), of course you're going to keep the game on the ground most of the time.

Reggie led a mediocre team to a mediocre record. Whoop-dee-freaking-doo.

And Dave Ragone was supposedly rated higher than David Carr. Sam Bowie was drafted higher than Michael Jordan. You keep saying this as if it has an ounce of relevance. If Reggie was such a wonderful prospect, why would he return to a team with as you have been adamant about, no supporting cast around him? Because he values his A&M degree that much?

To be honest, McNeal is a superb athlete, and I wouldn't mind spending a mid round pick on him. But the fact is, he has none of the intangibles of VY, nor the size, and has already displayed the susceptibility to injury that everyone swears Young will go through in the NFL. Mentioning McNeal in the same breath as Young after witnessing this season is just laughable.

Give me a break. How the hell does anyone know what next year will bring?

I feel that Bush will give us results sooner.

Obviously, you don't feel the same. We'll leave it at that.

Whatever happened to the "athletic quarterback" that was supposed to take over the NFL? Looking at the QBs on the teams that made the playoffs, they do not fit this mold at all.

    AFC:
    Pittsburgh - Big Ben - a stiff
    Indy - Manning - a stiff
    New England - Brady - a stiff
Denver - Jake Plummer - maybe used to be considered dual threat, but averaged a whopping 9 yards rushing per game this year
    Jax - Leftwich - a stiff
    Cincy - Palmer - a stiff

    NFC:
Chicago - Grossman/Orton - not really a stiff, but certainly not a running threat
    Carolina - Delhomme - a stiff
Washington - Brunell - pretty mobile, but averaged only 7 yards rushing per game
    Seattle - Hasselbeck - a stiff
Tampa Bay - Simms - not a running threat
    Giants - Eli Manning - a stiff

None of the playoff teams have a dual threat QB. So are we really overestimating the value of a runner at the QB position? My guess is that we are, because the defenses are so fast in the NFL. How does this impact your view of VY's ability to lead an NFL team and run the ball as a QB?

by the way - can anybody guess which NFL QB had the second most rushing yards this year (behind Ronnie Mexico)? Yup, our own David Carr.

This is unquestionable if only for the fact that Bush would play immediately while Vince would take a backseat for a couple of season.

    Uhm. That's 100% incorrect.

    So's that.

 What's your point here? You think Big Ben is some kind of dual threat QB? I don't. Brunell has been a very mobile QB for most of his career (esp in Jax), and now still can get out and scramble when necessary.

Good points! How many running QBs have won the superbowl? None. Look at how many games Vick has missed due to injury. Look at how beaten up McNair and McNabb are now. Elway and Young were the last two that could run a little that won a superbowl, BUT they could also sit in the pocket and disect a defense like a surgeon. This is what made them great.

Here is a list of previous superbowl winners. Majority of the winning teams had pocket passers.

Listening to Texan fans talk, I think its said that so many are going to hold the Texans hostage with their loyalty over this draft decision.

Personally, Bush or Young, I am going to support and root for the team with everything I have.

The dual threat guys are fun to watch, but according to the playoffs, they don't win in the NFL. Plummer is having his best year as a pro this year, and he isn't running as much. I still think Vick & the Falcons should/would be there if he hadn't gotten injured, but then again, thats another risk of being a dual threat QB.

I agree - really it's a win-win no matter which one we take IMHO ~ i'd rather have Vince, but Bush is certainly not a scrub and will make us a better team.

The idea of a few more years of Carr is annoying though ~ if we do draft Bush I hope we grab another QB later in the draft. (ie) B. Nealy...

There's too few of them to make a statement like that, if it was divided half and half, dual threat to pocket QBs, then you can make that statement, but right now there's Michael Vick and who else?
