"We're going to select players the same way we went about selecting our new coach," McNair said about Gary Kubiak. "You want to get the best coach you can get. That's what we did with Gary. The fact that he was from Houston was a bonus.

"It's the same way with the players. If you start letting your hometown sentiment override sound judgment, I'm afraid you'll never have a winning team. We look at it as which player, or players, can help our team the most." --- Bob McNair.

    Translaton -- David Carr . . . . and Reggie Bush.

"We look at it as which . . . players, can help our team the most."

Looks like we're going do it with Carr and Bush. We must accept.

The reports say he made a 16 the 2ND time.. at the same time you have rumors circulating that the test was indeed graded incorrectly and should have been a 7.. so he retook it..

Those are just rumors, but clearning up exactly what the situation was with the first test would help erase doubt. Because I think the first thing I said was.. if it was graded incorrectly, why retake it instead of redoing the grades?

I don't think it is going to hurt him really anyways , despite the fact that a 16 is still below average for a qb.. I just thought it would help his image some and help get rid of rumors about the score..

The only reason I give that site with the rumors some credit is because they were the first to report the 6..

and it may have turned out later that it was graded incorrectly, BUT the test score was at first a 6 and they must have had sources to know that.

it might have changed later, but at the time that they reported it.. it appears that the test had been graded as a 6..

Sorry about all the posts, but this will be my last post on the issue of his wonderlic scores.

I don't think he scored a 6 or a 7 because that seems too low. I'm assuming that UT didn't give him fake grades so he can read and score higher than that.

I'm just stating that within hours of it being leaked all over the internet, I'd have had an agent telling exactly what happened to get the story put to an end before it got published in papers. It's a lot harder to end speculation once it is aleady in papers across in america..

Sean Taylor scored a 7, and the U of Miami has a good academic reputation overall. Sean Taylor also has decent "football" inteligence

Bigtime college athletes are their to play sports, all major universities slide them through for the most part.

Finally, the Wonderlic isn't much related to college success or college achievement. It is a general IQ test (some guys with high IQs don't go to college and plenty with sub-par ones get through college through hard work and/or conntections), it is not an aptitude or achievement test which is a much better predictor of college success (former) or what you specificlly learned from classes (latter). Further, the Wonderlic is even less related to football aptitude--just look at Marino, McNair, McNabb & Culpepper, who all scored below 16 but were plenty smart people in the arena of football.

im glad he wrote this article about Vince. Because when people diss Vince, like the Heisman voters, he comes back and proves him wrong. so what if he wears a white tshirt and bling. I was in vegas last year and guess who we saw roll up to the Body English Club wearing jeans, a white shirt, and bling??

for the few of you who say you've never seen VY throw into coverage...watch the DVD of the Longhorns 2005/6 season. i realize most of it will make you throw up, because it's clearly produced for fans. but there was throw after throw into coverage...and all of those were TD's...there are tons more that won't show up on highlight films because they were for shorter gains and no points. the notion that this guy can only hit open receivers is so beyond truth it's laughable. roll tape.

i'm back where i was. i won't root against the texans. i'll still root for them. but it won't be the same. it won't be like it is for the astros and rockets. i was a season ticket holder. i was huge defender of this team and this organization. but it's different. i just like VY that much.

I don't know, I guess we all believe the report we want to be true. I read that he never scored a 6 and it was just a vicious rumor started by a rival qb's agent who may be close to the VY camp.

McNabb and McNair were not in pro style offenses either. McNabb had zero seasons as productive as VY's throwing the ball in college. And let's not forget the difference in opposing defenses VY faced versions McNair. But just like with those two (McNair/McNabb), there will probably be some teams that kick themsleves later for passing them over. You can't prevent teams from being stupid, someone has to be a bottom feeder.

The funny thing about the shotgun issue. Usually you only put better QBs in the shutgun. It requires extra handling of the ball and usually extra decision making. The suckier the QB, the less you would ever think of putting him in the shotgun regularly.

I haven't seen this trend in the NFL. I see the shotgun being used when QBs are getting the crap sacked outta them or when they are going to a 4/5 WR formation.

Well for what it's worth, John McClain was on 610 a little earlier this morning and is convinced (again) that the Texans are drafting Reggie Bush. He said that some of the answers he got during the Sage Rosenfels press conference have convinced him the Texans have no plans to draft Young/trade Carr.

And Bush supporters begin patting themselves on their backs as if they had any inside knowledge.

    It will be fun, though!

And Vince will become the next best player, while Bush is a nice role player.

And, the VY fans will open up one helluva can of "told ya so"

Well, I hope VY467 fans can do that while Bush is playing well for us. I think having Bush is going to be great for this team, just like having VY467 would've.

    That sucks.

I don't feel any connection to this team, besides the fact that they are in Houston. Drafting VY was a chance to win over fans like me. Obviously others have different views and I still expect the team to make money as long as they put a good product on the field. I won't be watching though....

And damn, 125 pages!! Is that the record?
