Now my brother, and millions like him, can get health insurance. Now my mother in law, and millions like her, can get health insurance. It's not what I wanted, but it's what this country decided was achievable. I'm damn proud and damn happy. A big F-U to the lunatics on the far right.
Funny quote from Con Law professor on my friends' facebook: "If you use the 'Good and Welfare Clause' on your final, you will flunk. That's a promise."
Some people are celebrating in a different way. http://tpmmuckraker.talkingpointsmemo.com/2010/03/vandal_attacks_on_dem_offices_nationwide.php
This didn't take long... http://www.usatoday.com/news/washington/2010-03-23-health-poll-favorable_N.htm Opinions turn favorable on health care plan WASHINGTON — Americans by 9 percentage points have a favorable view of the health care overhaul that President Obama signed into law Tuesday, a USA TODAY/Gallup Poll finds, a notable turnaround from surveys before the vote that showed a plurality against it. By 49%-40% those surveyed say it was "a good thing" rather than a bad one that Congress passed the bill. Half describe their reaction in positive terms, as "enthusiastic" or "pleased," while about four in 10 describe it in negative ways, as "disappointed" or "angry." ... No one gets overwhelmingly positive ratings on the issue, but Obama fares the best: 46% say his work has been excellent or good; 31% call it poor. Congressional Democrats get an even split: 32% call their efforts good or excellent; 33% poor. The standing of congressional Republicans is more negative. While 26% rate their work on health care as good or excellent, a larger group, 34%, say it has been poor.
^^^this will only improve as people get to know the legislation I can only imagine the backlash people will have for republicans when people begin to realize how much they were lied to about what is in the bill and how it will affect their lives.
An overreaching federal government MANDATING the purchase of something under penalty of financial hardship for the first time in HISTORY. Violation of the 10th Amendment by increasing state Medicare costs without reimbursing the states for the costs. Also known as violating the states' sovreignty. Raising insurance costs by forcing companies to carry everyone. Guess who's going to be paying for those medical bills? Adding millions of people, many illegal or low-income, to Medicare rolls without limiting their coverage. This will lead to everyone going to the hospital for any/everything, leading to logjams in hospitals and possible delays in medical treatment. Yes Democrats, it's indeed a happy day. I can see a glorious future like Denmark, Germany, or France where half your paycheck goes right out the window to pay for someone else who just HAS to have his sore throat checked out by a doctor! Good job guys, your dream of a socialist paradise is one step closer!
House Republican Conference Chairman Rep. Mike Pence, R-Ind, accompanied by Rep. Cathy McMorris Rodgers, R-Wash. , discusses health care legislation during a news conference on Capitol Hill in Washington, Tuesday, March 23, 2010.
"I heard one of the Republican leaders say this was 'going to be Armageddon,'" the President said, referring to comments earlier this week by House Minority Leader John Boehner and RNC Chairman Michael Steele. "Well, two months from now, six months from now, we can check it out, look around, and we'll see," Obama continued, drawing laughter from the audience.
Teddy wanted it... Franklin wanted it... Harry wanted it... John wanted it... Lyndon wanted it... Jimmy wanted it... Bill wanted it... Obama got it...
