All well and good.....except they put NOTHING in the CBA and have ZERO legs to stand on. They may want to check this sort of thing, but they absolutely, 100%, have no right to arbitrarily squash player movement as they see fit.

This goes to court, they'll get creamed.

It won't go to court. At best, it goes to arbitration. Or Congress. But, I'm 99% sure it goes nowhere at all.

For everyone saying that CP3/NBAPA should file a lawsuit against the NBA/Stern I don't really understand what the basis would be.

CP3 is under contract still. The team can trade him wherever they want to. Obviously, the Hornets' options are limited because CP can walk away as a Free Agent in June if he gets sent to a team he doesn't want to commit to long term. But thats also his right, since he played out the terms of his contract.

The NBAPA just signed off on a CBA that makes it increasingly difficult to manage a SnT or an extend and trade. So CP has to make a decision, play the year out and goto the team he wants (sacrificing some cash) or take the money (either by extending with NO or whatever team they trade him to prior to Jan 1). CP might not like it but the Players Union signed off on this player movement model. I don't see anything the league is doing to merit legal action.

The NBA has the right to block/dictate any trade in this case because they are the de facto owners of the New Orleans Hornets.

Honestly the other owners should have said **** It and let the Hornets fold. Idk how Stern convinced the owners to pitch in $10million each to finance the competition. That whole situation is a big mess. If the Hornets somehow make a profit, do the other owners get a dividend? Do the other owners get payed back if the sale price for the Hornets doesn't match the $300million they paid for it? Is there a time limit on how long the search for a new owner will last? What happens if the Hornets continue to lose money for the next year, or two, or three with no owner? Are the other owners content to continue footing the bill?

This whole thing is a huge mess, b/c its holding up seemingly every other move on the table for other GMs around the league. SMH

Teams aren't trading for CP3 as a rental. They're trading for his bird rights which allows them to offer $30 million more than any other team.

The Hornets have until the trade deadline to look for the best deal.

Clippers shouldn't trade a thing for him. It's clear he's want to play there and they have the cap room to sign him outright (which LA, NY, Bos don't have) and NJ seems to want Deron. I see it as his only possible destination.

Give Donald Sterling 9 months to screw this up - he'll probably run over some homeless people with a limo full of hookers watchign dogfight videos and shouting racial slurs between now and then.

    He's not going to L.A

    Just look...

Maybe they should send him to Houston, but of course Stern would ask for the entire team + Andre Johnson + Toyota Center.

I knew that was Adrian Wojnarowski without even looking.

This guy sure likes writing about dramatic portrayals of being being "indecent" and about people getting hosed.

So the NBA gets the door slammed in it's face by the Clippers. I love it! Major props to the Clippers on the Billups move.

My assumption at this point is that Stern is intentionally sabotaging CP3 deals by asking for the moon. Presumably every time a deal gets close, he will ask for a bit more until the suitor just gives up.

That way he can say that he was open to trading him (so as not to piss off the players association), but yet not do so (so as not to piss off owners like Dan Gilbert and Mark Cuban who want to stick it to the players). Everybody is a little pissed, but nobody pissed enough to snap.

How long before CP3 can get traded again, if he goes to the clips?

    Billups/Williams/Bledsoe

The Clippers seem pretty stocked at PG. Perhaps the NOH should talk to Orlando about Jameer Nelson...
