Texas was a dropped INT away from being undefeated and ending all this discussion. They nearly won on the road despite injuries, and taking Tech for granted. I think its a wash. Not saying they won, but they were a lot closer to winning than OU was to Texas, and Tech was to OU. The Texas vs Tech game almost won.
As a neutral observer, I give OU the edge. They are a better team than when they faced UT. UT is behind them and Tech is 3rd. I expect OU will beat OSU next week, beat Mizzou in the Big 12 championship game and lose to UF in the BCS title game. UT should get a BCS bowl bid, face Alabama and beat them. Because of the OU shellacking, Tech should not get a BCS bowl bid ahead of UT. Sorry Tech fans. Any UT homer who says OU hurt themselves by cremating Tech by such a big margin is on crack. The game diminished Tech, no doubt. But using the same reasoning, UT's loss to Tech becomes more damaging to them also. Regarding another of your posts, unless Saban can resuscitate some life back into Bama, they won't lose close to UF. Bama seems to be a case of a team peaking too soon. I don't think they can get the magic back.
Really!?!? Because the way the SEC settles a three way tie is the lowest ranked BCS team is eliminated and the Head to Head winner between the two remaing teams is sent to the SEC CCG. Regardless of the Big XII rules Tech is immaterial in discussing who represents the South. It's all about OU and Texas.
See, I would agree if all 3 games were at home, but they weren't......OU, and Tech won a home game, and UT won at a nuetral site...that to me is more weighted than winning a home game. Though I think it is not so clear with OU's thrashing of Tech... DD
Please...when talking s***, spell correctly. It's ridiculous. That said...every one in here is spinning for their team in some way. UT has a legit argument. They beat #1 (at the time) OU on a neutral field. Their only loss is by a last second td at Tech. They've beaten 3 teams who were in the top 11 at the time of the game. How many other teams have done that this year? Go Tigers. Go Cowboys. Go Bears. Go Seminoles. Could you imagine if all 4 of UF, UA, OU, and TT lost? UT vs UT (Utah) in the NC?
Just so everyone knows Texas did not lose to Tech by a point they lost by 6 all Tech needed was a field goal to win that game.
Just curious, but what leads you to say this? Didn't a lot of Sooner fans blame the loss on Reynold's injury, and isn't he still out? Do you think Texas is the same, has improved, or gotten worse?
Yep, but their kicker had just come out of the stands the week before and UT had blocked it earlier...it was at best a 50/50 proposition from the 25. DD
How is OU better than when they played UT? Look at them before and after. The only reason they're playing better now is because they AREN'T playing UT. EDIT: To make sure that everyone realizes how horrible the SEC really is, it would behoove UT, OU and TT fans to root for Auburn and Florida State this week.
All I know is that if OU loses and people start voting Tech ahead of us because of head-to-head after ignoring our win against OU I am going to write a harshly worded letter to all of the voters.
Look at what they've done since. After the Kansas game, they've absolutely obliterated teams. They had 20-35 pt leads in every game in the 1st quarter. Granted, its not as good competition for the most part (although they did it to Tech as well), but I don't think there's any question that OU is playing their best football right now, and arguably the best in the country. If this was simply about hottest teams, Florida and OU would run away with it. The bigger issue is how an earlier loss affects that.
It would be interesting to see all the "head-to-head is all that matters" people and whether they have a problem with Tech being ranked behind UT in that scenario.
Somebody needs to remind the voters that Quan Cosby didn't play in the game at Tech. I never thought I would see the day when Texas would beat Oklahoma, both teams would finish with the same record and OU would rep the Big 12 South, but it appears inevitable. So much for the regular season being a playoff. In the end, that argument was a big lie. And since when did Texas stop playing well? They throttled Baylor, and won easily at Kansas. Texas isn't exactly sucking at the moment. If Texas can put 70 on A&M, I wonder if that would make a difference.
It's relevant ot his argument that head to head don't matter. They do. As far as the Big XII south is concerned, it no longer has control of the winner and the polls will decide who wins. Look how far they dropped Tech. Tech no longer matters and it's between OU and Texas. So in essence it has become a defatco SEC rule since the media is only discussing OU and Texas.
They've obliterated EVERY team they played. This is not a new phenomenon. These are their scores pre-UT: 57-2 52-26 55-14 35-10 49-17 Scores post-UT: 45-31 58-35 62-28 66-28 65-21
