http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E3iV4aYvopM Dude you are missing my point. WHY WAS HORRY ALONE AT THE 3? Because everyone else was paying attention to Shaq and Kobe. The ball did not bounce to him by virtue of some magical motion offense, it was a lucky bounce to him and he happened to make the shot. Make the shot. That's all they need to do. If he didn't make that shot THEY LOSE. That's not any type of offense. That was a scramble to get a shot up, and guess who had the ball in their hands? Kobe freaking Bryant.
we're nowhere close. even in the past few games, we're playing off yao's doubles a ton and guys just make shots. that's basical basketball. the chron documented that the entire time. don't know where this "adelman offense" is when i rarely see guys at a high post more than 2-3 possessions in a row.
dude just doesn't "get it." i'm gonna stop now. if those clips dont prove my point, it's like beating my head against a brick wall.
My point is that even on a team like the Lakers with Shaq and Kobe you don't put the ball into their hands in the final seconds every single time. If somebody like Fisher or Horry is open then the ball goes to them and they fire up the game winner, or loser as the case may be.
i'm going to say this one last time: the ball WAS in kobe's hands for that last play. he missed a shot but he drew the defense in so that's why horry was wide open. the reason they're open is b/c the stars drew the defense in (just like when tracy or yao passes out of their double teams). a set offense doesn't force double teams if you don't have great players. that's not adelman's offense or triangle offense. it's give it to your best player and let him break down the defense and draw the defense in. if he can take a shot, he will. if not, he'll pass it out for a wide open shot. we've BEEN doing that. unfortunately, our role players miss WIDE open shots.
You said last year. Those links you put up are from two seasons ago when JvG was still the coach. Do you even read those things or do you just post stuff at random?
Yeah, except when the role players come along and shoot better than 60% from 3 point land, like in the GSW game. Strange how the increased scoring over the last few games seems to coincide with the better ball movement.
wow, even if they were, how can you refute that? if they did that 2 years ago, why wouldn't they do that last year if we were EVEN BETTER without yao last yr? so to your point, yes a lot of the media said we were better off without yao (and skip bayless was still ranting on 1st and 10 this past february, other members can attest to this).
seriously, did you even watch the clips i posted? and seriously you're talking about a warriros defense that just doubled/tripled yao and not guard anybody else on the perimeter? SERIOUSLY? I'M TALKING ABOUT PLAYOFFS BASKETBALL here. we're not talking about the clippers or warriors.
I'm a huge Kings fan too and I agree with your friends. But if you go back and read the Chronicle articles from last year you'll see plenty of quotes from guys like Battier talking about how it really takes a year or so to figure out the motion offense. The Rockets weren't going to look like the Kings straight out of the gate. They needed time and games to practice. And recently the ball movement has looked a lot better. The Rockets are still working on it. But the game against San Antonio the Rockets ran the offense as well as I've ever seen them. In the game thread I wrote that I thought it's the only game I've seen in 1.2 seasons that was "Kings worthy".
So in other words you can't actually find anybody who said that the Rockets looked better without Yao last season so you're just going to make stuff up? One more time: two seasons ago the head coach was Jeff van Gundy. Last season it was Rick.
i think we need to agree to disagree. b/c my basketball philosophy clearly differs from yours. you prefer to run your offense irregardless of what the defense is doing. i prefer when times get tough, i give it to my best player and let him do his thing.
If you watched the last four or five games it wasn't just the Warriors who doubled or tripled Yao. The Clips did it too, and it happened a bunch on the three game road trip east. Dude, you may be in total denial, but the Rockets are going to base their offensive game on getting the ball in to Yao and then exploiting the double or triple team. They're going to play the motion offense. And that's going to continue after T-Mac gets back. That's going to continue into the playoffs. Whether T-Mac wants to try and fit in is up to him.
aiite man, this is really my last time trying to prove you wrong b/c obviously you weren't on earth last year. and seriously, google sometimes. http://sportsblog.abc13.com/2008/03/rockets-better.html (this was on 3/13/08) http://blogs.chron.com/sportsjustice/archives/2008/03/better_without.html here's an article from our own justice having to justify it (3/8/08) http://www.nba.com/rockets/news/Rockets_sharing_the_wealth_ove-261474-34.html (3/7/08) here's a recap of saying how the rockets "shared" the ball without yao (see, something you think tracy can't do obviously)
that's basic basketball. we've been doing that for the past 4 years. what have you been watching? except now we have better role players. and it helps that rafer is making nearly 50% of his 3pt shots during his "hot" streak.
Uh, show me the actual quote from any of the links you posted that says the Rockets are better without Yao. Do you actually bother reading that stuff before you post it up?
really? why would richard justice write an article about it? obviously there has to be talk in the media about it. but again, were you born just this past year? if you dont' believe me, fine. there was ZERO talk on we were better off without yao ming last year.
Except now that the team is actually passing the ball and cutting hard without the ball. If you think the offense in the last few games looks anything like the offense under JvG you're blind.
It was beautiful offense. I'm just skeptical on how it will play out during the playoffs. We're depending a lot on the role players this way, and our overall strength at every position is not as good as those Kings teams. The offense looks great when guys are making their shots. If that stops in the playoffs, we're back to square one. But I am willing to give Adelman a chance because he has a track record of success, and has made it to the Finals. He hasn't won, but i'm hoping that will change this season.
