Scola and Yao are polar opposites on rebounding. It is so obvious when you watch both of them try to box out and rebound.

Scola does it with hustle, sheer determination, positioning, and outfighting his man for rebounds. Yao seems to just get his because of his size, and even then I see time and time again smaller people outwork him for rebounds.

If there was a rebound we just have to have with the game on the line, my money is on Scola getting it.

Well, he got three of them tonight against the Blazers.

Three offensive rebounds in four possessions at a point in the game where we couldn't buy a bucket.

Doing the 'dirty work' never looked so good. Scola saved the Rockets against the Blazers tonight. 3 gigantic offensive rebounds. That's 3 possessions the Blazers could of had and who knows what could have happened.

Scola's D has really improved. Solid, solid games against Dirk and Aldridge tonight.

Yao gets rebounds when the bounce to him

    Scola goes after rebounds.

    That's the difference.

    SCOLA is awesome.

Nowadays, it is good to hear less cries of 'we need a new PF', compared to the old days (re: Stromile Swift, Juwan Howard, etc.) when our PF position was even more worrisome than our PG position :p

And for people still asking for a more atheletic PF.... sorry lads, but we already had one atheletic PF in Swift. Enough of that type. The brainy, hustle, never give up types like Scola for that small cost is more more than enough. :)

scola is the man, he's played more consistently than yao this year, can only see his stats go up and hopefully us playing better. we have 3 legit players who can score down at the post. the perimeter shots need to fall with better accuracy.

whoever that gets to play with yao become much better offensive rebounders because all the opposing bigmen are spending time holding on to yao and pinning him to the ground cause when yao gets that offensive rebound in the paint...then it's over. defensively, all takes up so much space in the paint and blocks out for his teammates so much that they become much better rebounders..... not trying to excuse yao for his rebounding. but he is averaging 32 minutes this season and averaging about 9.5 per game and can easily average 10 rebounds with 35 minutes of PT each game.

If i'm not wrong this was his fifth consecutive double double, and he was one of the main reasons we pulled this complicated win late in the fourth Q. He's constantly improving and he'll continue doing that even on the deffensive end, he's just amazing and with this lineup the rockets now have a true shot at the playoffs. Go ahead Luis !!!

I'm late chiming in here, but he has changed my opinion of him this season. The only gripe I had last year is when he'd miss a lot of layups, but he's money nowadays.

    Love the midrange shot too!

Thanks Luis, and keep it up!

I thought he'd improve with experience, needing to adjust to the NBA game, the system, his teammates, and he has. Looking at his FT% in Europe, I figured the problems Scola had last season had to be mental. It's a relief to see that's the case. A huge difference between 66% and 75% at the line. As his confidence has grown, his numbers have grown with it, in all aspects of his game. For so many years we were jonesin' for a solid 4. Luis is that in spades. We need to lock up the guy with an extension. He's capable of 15/10 with around 30 minutes a night and his passing is getting better, along with improved defense.

Les and Morey need to make sure we can keep this guy, and do it over the summer, IMO.

    Scola is complete.

    He scores.
    He hustles.
    He defends.
    He dunks.
    He rebounds.
    He gets down court.
    He steals.
    He passes.
    He fights for loose balls.
    He sets picks.
    He hits free throws.
    He blocks.

Hell, the only thing he doesn't do is shoot 3's.

I don't think I've ever seen a more complete player in a Rockets uniform.

I agree, this year's success IMO has to be attributed in LARGE part to the bench (Landry and Brooks), Scola and Artest.

These 3 elements that I just pointed out have been huge for us this year. We're very lucky to have them.
