Yet only those who criticize his passing ability think he is a selfish ball hog. There is a difference between being a point guard with subpar passing skills who also shoots well vs being a me-first disruptor of the offense who always looks to get his at the expense of everyone else. Not directed at you Mr. Clutch but you brought up a pet peeve.
When they made the Kevin Martin trade, they were in the assumption that he would be a good compliment to Yao for this year. The Rockets also have a lot of assets so they figured they could also add another major piece to Martin/Yao. Well unfortunately that hasn't worked out. They need to move on from Yao and I agree they should look to deal Martin.
What is Morey is able to make a major move between now and the start of next season (either via trade or via free agency) and the team is suddenly a contender? Do you really want to throw away your best players simply because you might not win a championship during the duration of their contracts? If that were the case, then every team should just trade their best players to the Lakers in exchange for L.A.'s future first round picks and then forfeit the next 3-5 years.
I do Brooks for Cousins with out a second thought. Cousins will be the best center in the league in a couple of years and he will be better than Dwight Howard. Knucklehead or not. And I am a huge fan of AB.
There is no "move" that Morey can make to make this team a contender. We need a Yao replacement If we want to win before our 20 year championship anniversary, imo...
One thing about Martin is he puts up good numbers on bad teams. This team is structured around an injury plagued center with role players who are used to losing. The only real winner is Scola, but everyone else is used to losing won't get far with a team make up mentality. Miller/Lee/Hill/Jeffries/Martin etc... were from losing teams. So it's evident Morey looks for 'low bargains' AND this team won't win anything with this make up built around Yao Ming. None of these players have a drive to want to win more then anything. IMO it appears Morey strategy was to ride out Yao's contract and land players to give the city hope which has not panned out. And all his eggs were to land Chris Bosh imo. Scola is the only one who is used to winning and wants to win. The other guys never even proven themselves on a winner with the exception of Lee (once). And none of these 'low bargain players' were the best players from their losing teams kinda sad.
Aaron Brooks for Cousins seems pretty fair to me... Aaron Brooks Tyreke Evans Donte Greene Carl Landry Samuel Dalembert --------------------------- PG Kevin Martin SF Luis Scola Demarcus Cousins We would have a couple holes to fill, but I would have a VERY hard time passing up on a 20 and 12 big man to put with Luis Scola, for the next 5 years, and Jordan Hill for the next 12... Go grab Billups with Lowry and friends and call it a day...
I would be tempted If I was Sac... Brooks/Evans would be really, really nice. There have been rumblings that Tyreke and Cousins are not compatible. I'd be willing to throw a draft pick at them as well...
This team needs more difference makers. Don't know what the organization is going to do, but staying pat it appears and tanking with these scrubs seems ideal for at least this season.
Lotto picks are more valuable than players! As Morey says, you need a superstar(s) to win, and they are incredibly difficult to get. Picks are one of the only ways to get superstars, and the more first round picks you have, the more likely you are to find one. If I'm trading AB, I want at least one first round pick, period. Otherwise you are just getting near-stars like AB in return, which is pointless. Especially considering the quality/history of our scouting department and past success in recent drafts.
But there is no guarantee that Brooks stays with the Kings beyond this season. Why not just hold on to Cousins and his rookie deal?
