I like Chet I am just simply scared of injury and too risk averse to want that to happen. If it did though it would be fun and could pay off handsomely. Considering I have no control I will hope for the best while still having my own little opinion about it haha
If you put a gun to my head, I think Cade would edge him out but not by much. Barnes may beat both of them.
It's due to the purposeful disinformation by teams very common during this period. I'd be more worried if no new info came out.
Bobby Marks prediction that we’ll trade back to #7 is plain crazy. I’d lose my mind if Stone did that, and not in a good way.
I hope not lol...if we trade down I'd trade down to the Pels for Brandon Ingram or something, maybe you can make an argument there, he's only 24 and just hitting his prime, if you really don't think Paolo will be that guy then yeah...I'd trade down for a young player that is CLEARLY on the up plus a future pick that is like top 3 protected or something.
I’d guess Cade would be slightly over Mobley too, but I think there would be FOs that would go Mobley. I kind of think a few FOs may go Barnes but my pure guess is he’d be slightly behind those two more often. He was already having a really nice season at the point that list came out and wasn’t on it (though I think he might be if they did it again). My (possibly wrong) take is that the other guys would have a slight edge because getting the next Barnes might be easier than getting the next Cade or Mobley.
Depends 100% on what the Rockets evaluation of the draft eligible players is and what the Rockets get in return. For example, if the Rockets conclude that Shaedon Sharpe is the 3rd or 4th best player in this draft, and they can move back to #7 and get him and get another major asset, then you do it. There has been whispers of the Blazers getting another mid lottery pick. I would assume that would go to the Rockets. So hypothetically the Rockets could end up with someone like: Sharpe or Murray or Griffin AND get Eason and Sochan or Dieng. In that scenario the Rockets could wrap up their need for long wings that can defend AND also add a potential impart player in Sharpe or Murray. Am I advocating for this type of move? Only if the Rockets conclude that at #3 there is no one really that special and that they would rather address their other needs and hope to add a franchise player next year in the draft or that someone like Sharpe or Dieng can become that player..... at some point the Rockets will have to address defense and wings, be it this draft or next draft..... this year there are a lot of excellent potential wings.
Great analysis. If Portland can get another mid-lottery pick (how?), I would definitely trade #3 if Smith is gone. I think Smith is going to end up the best in this draft, so if he is available I would not trade down. In fact, I would trade up to get Smith. I would rather have Daniels than Sharpe at 7 and another defensive wing or PF with the second pick. Of course, I trust Stone when it comes to drafting, but it’s fun to play GM.
I'm sure if I started watching more Chet videos I'd swing back the other way. I think I probably was excited about Banchero because I figured that's who's gonna be there so I should get ready and in shifting my focus, was pleasantly surprised. I quit watching videos because I don't want to think about what can't be.
Seems like this is why all of the fake BS about Ivey is coming out. It's lying season and the FO doesn't want everyone to know what they plan on doing even though it's obvious.
Im not sure if I value an Eason/Daniels (For example) package more than Paolo. I can't really think of a mid-lotto package id rather have than 1 of the 3 bigs. Ivey and Murray maybe.
At one point someone (Pelton i think) says something about how Houston drafting Banchero was good for Paolo because of their franchise analytics focus implying that they must have some special analytics based use case for him or something. I chuckled and guffawed a bit at that one The Rockets definitely did have an analytics comparative advantage in some sense, over a decade ago when it was Morey and the Python crew vs. a bunch of old Jockocracy types and their sons and various Colangelos populating front offices. Now? That gap has been erased as others adopted the same practices, and further the Rockets current brain trust isn't exactly a data science heavy crew who clawed their way up by the csv file: Stone - a transactional attorney/corporate counsel by trade. Pat - professional wealthy scion of large private restauranteur Tilman - i mean, the Westbrook deal! Come on. I'm sure there's a well developed data analysis team in place that Morey left behind, but if they draft Paolo its probably unlikely because they came up with some special formula down in the datalab, it's because he's a consensus mega-elite talent!
