On a side note.... this is something that has bothered me for years. I have read the Old Testament and New Testament at a minimum a dozen times. I have read the "lost" or "banned" Gospels, and virtually every single losely related reference from that time period and do not see how anyone can argue that the heart of Jesus was compassion and empathy, especially for the poor and those that are in need of relief.

That is indisputable in my opinion... that is what Jesus preached and what he lived, it is consistent through the sources. Yet we argue of the meaning of particular terms and stories in the Bible on issues with very serious consequences such as how to treat homosexuals, or slavery or women.... yet the larger picture, the reality is completely thrown to the side as insignificant..... and it has hit me, in a sense the message of Jesus has thus far failed. What value is there in claiming to be a Christian if you ultimately disregard the whole purpose of the message.

It is a tangent, sorry... just very upsetting.
