Either way, he'd definitely be on the internet arguing about it.

Well, is he not one of the most known men in history? Regardless of whether or not you're a Christian, obviously his popularity throughout the years is irrefutable.

Wasn't Jesus pretty well educated? That in itself rules out Republican.

It's full of pot-smoking liberal hippies and socialists who blame other people for stuff in here... so... I wonder how that poll is going to end up... :p

His parents were looking to live in someone else's house without paying for rent, so... yeah, poll is about right...

Not really - He didn't even hit minor Kardashian status until decades after his supposed death.

    Can't argue with that

But if you're saying he would be destined to be one of the most known men in history had he shown up today.

Here is some stuff from the bible:

He defends the cause of the fatherless and the widow, and loves the alien, giving him food and clothing.

If there is a poor man among your brothers in any of the towns of the land that the LORD your God is giving you, do not be hardhearted or tightfisted toward your poor brother. Rather be openhanded and freely lend him whatever he needs.

There will always be poor people in the land. Therefore I command you to be openhanded toward your brothers and toward the poor and needy in your land.

He saves the needy from the sword in their mouth; he saves them from the clutches of the powerful. So the poor have hope, and injustice shuts its mouth.

For he will deliver the needy who cry out, the afflicted who have no one to help. He will take pity on the weak and the needy and save the needy from death. He will rescue them from oppression and violence, for precious is their blood in his sight.

Definitely doesn't sound like a Republican.

Among the most common themes of the Bible...from start to finish...is have compassion for and take care of the poor.

The only man Jesus talks about hanging out in Hell was the rich guy who did nothing to help the poor guy he passed by everyday on the street.

I personally don't think Jesus would belong to, much less endorse either party!

On one hand we have a party that STRONGLY favors helping the poor/needy, but also strongly opposes having HIS word displayed in any courthouse, opposes having public devotions honoring HIM, and try's to pass laws contrary to many of HIS moral teachings. On the other hand we have a party that STRONGLY favors having HIS word displayed in courthouses, favors having public devotions honoring HIS name, and try's to pass laws according to HIS moral teachings, BUT also passes laws favoring the rich and does minimal at best to help the poor/needy!

When having to choose between the two parties many people either choose the lesser of the two evils OR chooses the one the that will favor them the most financially! I personally think Jesus would reject both parties!

Where in the Bible did Jesus advocate using government(s) to forcibly take from group A to give to group B under the threat of violence? I'm sure it's in there but I don't know the chapter and verse.

A lot of people thought he was a nut back then too. It doesn't seem to have hurt his popularity.

There was a certain rich man who was splendidly clothed in purple and fine linen and who lived each day in luxury. At his gate lay a poor man named Lazarus who was covered with sores. As Lazarus lay there longing for scraps from the rich man’s table, the dogs would come and lick his open sores. “Finally, the poor man died and was carried by the angels to be with Abraham. The rich man also died and was buried, and his soul went to the place of the dead. There, in torment, he saw Abraham in the far distance with Lazarus at his side. “The rich man shouted, ‘Father Abraham, have some pity! Send Lazarus over here to dip the tip of his finger in water and cool my tongue. I am in anguish in these flames.’“But Abraham said to him, ‘Son, remember that during your lifetime you had everything you wanted, and Lazarus had nothing. So now he is here being comforted, and you are in anguish. And besides, there is a great chasm separating us. No one can cross over to you from here, and no one can cross over to us from there.’“Then the rich man said, ‘Please, Father Abraham, at least send him to my father’s home. For I have five brothers, and I want him to warn them so they don’t end up in this place of torment.’“But Abraham said, ‘Moses and the prophets have warned them. Your brothers can read what they wrote.’“The rich man replied, ‘No, Father Abraham! But if someone is sent to them from the dead, then they will repent of their sins and turn to God.’“But Abraham said, ‘If they won’t listen to Moses and the prophets, they won’t listen even if someone rises from the dead. - See more at:

Jesus uses the threat of eternal damnation instead.

This type of argument always brings out a bunch of silliness.

First, let's separate what one thinks government should do and what one thinks people should do.

If a person is a Republican and doesn't believe the government should help the poor AND at the same time they don't personally choose to help the poor, that is contrary to the teaching of Jesus.

However, it is perfectly reasonable to think that government should not be in the business of redistribution of wealth BUT holding yourself to the standard of Christ to give it yourself.

That second paragraph is where most "God is a Republican" American Christians fall apart though. It's fine to think the government shouldn't do it, but many church going people aren't doing it either.

As for Jesus, his mission, as stated earlier, was not to change governments, it was to change hearts. Compliance with the teaching of Christ because the government forces you to do it would be counter to the teaching themselves. I think this cuts both ways. Don't tell me I need to support a government program because Jesus loved the poor and don't tell me that something should be illegal because Jesus didn't support it. Forced compliance with "God's laws" would mean you aren't following Christ's teachings at all:

“‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.

Governments have nothing to do with either.

There's definitely some democrat policies that Jesus would despise -- notably abortion.
