Don't overrate those two on reputation from years ago. Jamals been riding the bench in crunch minutes. Jr smith is a knucklehead fake thug that I kinda like a lil bit. Delfino is a the man. He's been the closest replacement of jon Barry and bob sura. Battier nope. Brent Barry nope. Steve Novak nope. Clee nope. Budinger nope.

Delfino is probably my favorite player on the Rockets in terms of personality. The guy is hilarious.

False. Not only is Jamal Crawford on the floor in competitive games during crunch time in the Clrippers' best lineups that exclude starters like DeAndre Jordan and Caron Butler, but Jamal Crawford is even left out there to help run the team in blowout games as well.

As a Rockets fan I can still tell you that Crawford is a vastly more dynamic and talented player than Carlos Delfino, who is himself a bit one-note at times.

If Delfino wins Sixth Man of the Year over a player like Jamal Crawford, then the award itself would be meaningless. That's just how it is.

    Carlos Delfino = Bob Sura.

Someone needs to create a Delfino wallpaper.

He's shooting 40% FG and under 40% from 3P. Guys with those numbers get less than $3M/yr.

I wonder if part of our magic is that we study the players and ask them to do what it is they do well. I wonder if we educated our players about themselves better than other teams do. And I bet we evaluate for if a player is capable of being educated about themselves. I wonder exactly how supergenius we are, or if its all in my imagination.

lin is smart. harden plays smart. everyone else fills their roles nicely.
    who is the mastermind?

Delfino is just way too streaky. When he's on he's on but when he's off he's off.

    "under 40% from 3P"

he's shooting 39.2%. you make him sound like a crappy shooter saying he's shooting under 40. But whatever helps you strengthen your case I guess.

You know who else shoots 40% from the field and under 40% from 3? Rudy Gay.

He was the victim of Hollinger kindergarden "advanced" statistics.

He posted a league-worst nightmare +/- last year babysitting Brandon and Monta and their equally no-defense cohorts on defense, guarding three positions simultaneously.

Only the team that spent 10x on quantitative analysis as the next team saw through it.

    ;)

Seriously. Why isn't Jamal playing over Matt Barnes?

2 random games that I've watched and haven't seen Jamal play at all.

    He is averaging 29 mpg.

1/9/2013 - 26 minutes. The two games prior he was sat out with a sore foot.

26 is still on the low side for Crawford. They gave 5 of his minutes to Caron Butler in the fourth, which is outside the normal rotation and is about as common as seeing expert free throw shooter DeAndre Jordan in the fourth as well. Del Negro is undoubtedly bringing Crawford back slowly after the foot injury.

Yeah. Crawford is a big part of the clippers and deserves to win 6th man of the year. Either him or JR Smith.

It does raise the old question of whether you can even call a player a true "sixth man" if he's essentially playing starter's minutes (30+) off a shortened rotation, but the panels stopped caring about those distinctions a long time ago. It's not like they're going to change their tune now.

This is where Delfino gets shortchanged in those comparisons, is that he doesn't play 30+ minutes like those fakey sixth man starters. I'm not advocating for Delfino to play more minutes or anything--he'd just be taking floor time away from better players--but you understand my point. He's an actual sixth man in a world of fake ones.

Other than Pistons, Delfino has played on plenty terrible teams, and gms did not pay attention to the good thing he could do as a solid role player on a team.

On a serious note, I feel Morey's background in economics allow him to understand the concept of scarcity more than most GMs. There's are Delfino type of player every year it seems. Someone who seemingly isn't worth much, gets a small contract, and in the right situation blows up. If said player is young, like Green in NJ last year, they parlay that into a long term contract. If he's old, he re-enters the FA pool the next year.

The things is, these types are always readily available. Toney Douglas will enter the market next year as such a player. He's a guy who just a year ago, the Knicks dumped him as salary filler to us. The relative abundance, if you search hard enough, is amazing. So it's almost pointless to actually give one multi-year deals. That's why Morey's so smart to let Courtney Lee go. He was very good as a $2mil/yr player. Not worth giving $20mil to.

This is a good point. Players who can hit the 3 can always find a contract. But they won't make anything more than the MLE in the open market if they are mediocre on everything else because there are plenty of players like that. You can always find one for a reasonable price. It's up to the coaches to use these players effectively.
