The writers obviously took last year's criticism seriously. What a booming start to season 3. What they have to do now is keep everything coherent enough so that people can follow the plot lines and stay interested all season. This episode is a tough act to follow because it sets a high standard. If the writers' goal was to grab my interest and lock me into watching every week, the mission was accomplished. They just need to keep all the story lines interesting and meaningful. Let's see.
They really need to do something with Hiro - either give his character more depth or kill him off. His one-dimensional goofiness and corny lines gets very tiresome.
I am so surprised at the lack of criticism, and apologies for the little criticism that exists. However, I suppose I can reconcile that with...if people didn't like the show, they wouldn't be watching at this point. I hate the show, I can't stop watching. The subject matter is of interest to me-- the way the story began was interesting in that there didn't seem to be any sort of upcoming conflict that involved several people hurling beams and fireballs at each other. Why do I keep watching? I don't know, I don't know at all. There are some highly attractive people named Hayden Panettiere. That shouldn't be enough, should it? I've never felt like a show I actively kept up with, that had a general overall storyline, was being made up with on the spot until now. If that's the way things were, then either they were smart enough to hide it with something entertaining or very suddenly I became brilliant. Why are the eclispses so important? It's in the logo. It happens at random important times, not all of them. Why does future Peter have a scar if he already met Claire? "MAYBE HIS GUILT OVER ATTAINING THE SCAR WAS TOO MUCH TO LET HIS BODY HEAL ITSELF THIS ONE TIME" "Oh genius, let's use that this late into the game!" Why was there so much traffic ambience when Hiro travels to the future, but then there's only about 10 cars outside the window. Why does he coincidentally travel to the one exact time when his city is destroyed and also when he gets beaten (to death? let's leave it open just in case) How can Future Peter put Past Peter in the mind of somebody he's not near? How does Future Peter now about this guy when Past Peter, or Current Peter, doesn't know about him at all? Parkman is disposed of in a similar fashion, but he's transported to Africa instead of in the mind of somebody? I don't think I'm being out of turn, I honestly think this is being made up on the spot in a very unintelligent way. I hate this show so much, so very very much, see you next week.
I completely agree. The moment you introduce time travel, you unravel a whole level of loopholes and plot problems. The writers spend half their time trying to cover up previous blunders. Throw in a guy who can instantly absorb everyones powers (including time travel) and you will never be able to keep up. While you're at it, discover a way in which everyone can have powers and the potential to get everyone elses powers (syler). This show is going downhill fast.
I do not understand this logic. Before the episode airs, sure. But after it has aired, why do we need to put spoiler tags? If you didnt watch it and dont want to be spoiled, you should probaly stay out of the thread. Ok, sorry. Ill get off my soapbox. I thought the episode(s) was a mess, to be honest. I have watched enough Sci-Fi to know that everything will/can be explained in time, but man...this is all over the place. Dont get me wrong, I didnt hate it. Just thought it needed some work. Easily better than last season though. Not like thats saying much. A decent start, but definite room for improvement. And, since people like their spoiler tags: Spoiler I guess I was only partly right about Linderman still being alive...
The show has aired, I don't understand why everyone is using spoilers. If you haven't watched it and do not want to be spoiled, don't come into the thread.
I can understand using the spoiler tag last night as the west coast hadn't aired yet, but today I would think spoilers would be okay. So the big reveal at the end... what do you all think, half brother? What's the theory on why he wasn't with Angela? My two favorite lines last night. "Thank you turtle!" "Claire, that's disgusting" As for the episode being all over the place... so was the original pilot. They are setting up most of the mysteries/plot lines for the volume. I really liked the introduction of the new "villains" and the possibilities with Nathan's religious revival, "I see dead people", and given a position of power. How much did future Peter change the future?? (and how glad was I to see him take over Emo Peter's spot for a while! LOL)
This BBS is maybe the worst I've seen in understanding how spoiler tags work. Well over a year and half the people are STILL confused. It's very simple: -Tag any and all spoilers. -In front of the spoiler (tag), briefly mention what the spoiler is regarding. -Don't tag things that are not spoilers. DO NOT POST A REPLY THAT IS ONLY A SPOILER TAG - NO ONE HAS ANY CLUE WHAT THEY'LL GET IF THEY CLICK ON IT By the morning after an episode is aired, spoiler tags don't need to be used for the episode anymore. If you want to be SUPER safe about it, use spoiler tags to talk about the next week previews and what you think they are indicating. Anyone that comes onto this thread with the show unwatched on their DVR is an idiot in need of a lesson. *note - I'm making up all examples below* Examples of good use: 1. I think Suresh is going to go from spider man to spider, based on his back mutating. (no tags needed or used, since it's speculation) 2. Minor (obvious) spoiler about Mohinder going forward Spoiler Suresh will formulate a Hero-cure after giving himself powers backfires, according to TV Guide (tag used since it came from a knowledgable source about a future episode, preface given so people know what to expect inside the tag) Examples of bad use: 1. Suresh is going to die next week. (no spoiler tags...but is that just what you think is going to happen? is it a spoiler you found out about on some other site?) 2. The producers said in an interview that Noah is going to get powers to challenge the villains pretty soon. (no spoiler tags, and it is a spoiler. Don't assume "common knowledge") 3. Spoiler I think they're going to eventually fix the butterfly effect and undo Sylar getting Claire's power (spoiler used but not needed, no warning means no one else knows if this is an actual spoiler unless they click on it) 4. I think blah blah blah. Last night was okay blah blah blah. I wonder if Claire joins her dd as an agent now blah blah blah Spoiler Peter's mom kills Mohinder in the next episode! (no preface used, MAJOR SPOILER should have been given beforehand)
My thoughts on the premier: -Let's hope that was the last time they do a "red carpet show" in advance of the actual episode. -It is clear in the biggest way that they took all of the major, warranted, ripping from S2 seriously. They already were giving mea culpa interviews before S2 finished* and listing all the things they realized were hurting the show. Nice to see they acted on them. a. Ditch the 7+ episode long exposition and just get the conflict going off the bat b. Stop getting so hung up on wedging in romantic angles c. The New Orleans subplot SUCKED HARD d. Quit separating everyone from each other for half the season e. If you have to add a newbie, don't waste our time with 3 episodes of an origin story for each of them - just toss them into a plot The "are you going to eat my brain" part was a way for the producers to "directly" answer a question that they've been asked about forever. LOST often does the same thing. It would interesting to get the behind the scenes story on how the writers strike affected the cast. Many were released from their contract obligations when it lasted into December. It looked like West was written out, and Kristin Bell was listed as a "special guest star." No sign of team New Orleans, though I'm sure (unfortunately) that they'll dredge them up again if only to show us what happened after the warehouse explosion. The show does tend to trip up often with self-made plot holes and continuity errors. Peter has been around both Claire and Adam, so he should be able to pull the whole blood-healing trick with Nathan (a trick, btw, that I think was horrible of the writers to sign off on) - ditto about the scar. One nice conundrum for Peter - if he would "give" Sylar his power, Sylar wouldn't have to murder anymore. Evan * http://www.ew.com/ew/article/0,,20158840,00.html
i thought the premiere was great. i liked how they started the fight off right away with sylar getting claire's ability (but my question is how did he know where she was?) mohinder getting it on with maya (and some side boob) was awesome... i am actually curious about the african that matt meets up with when future peter leaves him there. seeing bob (mr midas) die was also a crazy plot drop right away along with seeing ando supposedly turn on hiro in the future. the one thing that didnt make sense to me and bothered me always with time travel time plots is since future peter went back in time to shoot nathan to prevent the announcement shouldnt that have caused the future to change (which it did) and thereby making the reality where future peter came from cease to exist and cause him to cease to exist? (sort of like in Back to the Future when Marty sees him and his family disappearing from the picture) at least definitely with all the other changes he made not sure how he could still be around. at least hiro understands that while he can travel to the past he shouldnt because of the ramifications of the future.
That bothered me a bit too. Plus moving his present day self into level five he added a bunch of powers to his arsenal that he didn't have before. Thus altering himself. The whole time travel thing is difficult to deal with, so I have decided not to try to think of that stuff. Suspend disbelief and just watch the story.
Minor Power Change .. or at least explaination that they snuck in on us HIRO *DOES NOT* STOP TIME NOW He simply slows it down . . .. A minor change . . i guess Mi-CAH and the New Orleans crew will need to show again if only for the confusing MOMMIE! .. WHO THE HELL ARE YOU KID moments [I am getting the feeling Nikki's power is duplication more than anything Google Jamie Madrox - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Multiple_Man] Also . . . How many Fortune Tellers do we have now? Peter's Mom, Now the African guy, The original painter guy . . . . I wonder how much power duplication will we end up with . .. Rocket River Any guesses on Jessie's Power?
I am a huge fan of the show, and I thought the same thing. It just seemed like way too much was going on and i was kinda confused at times
<spoiler>So Cyler is also Mrs. Petrelli's son. I'm convinced that Mr. Petrelli, though dead, will play a crucial role in this series. We've never seen the man, have we? His face turned in the picture of the founders of the company. </spoiler>
Founders of the Company What are all the powers we know Linderman - Healing Ms Petrelli - Dreaming the Future Elle's dad - Alchemy - changing one substance to another Parkman Sr. - Telepathy and beyond Richard Roundtree's charater - black guy peter was taking care of - dunno [BTW what happened to his daughter. . i thought she was coming back . . per one of the pictures] Hiro's Dad - ????
