Spoiler Why does Peter have to touch people now to absorb their powers? That doesn't make sense. When he got injected by the formula in the last episode, he absorbed Nathan's flying ability without even touching him.
I just gotta say, that first episode was better than anything I saw in season two or three. I'm cautiously excited.
I disagree, I think it was just as crappy as the rest of season 3 and not even as good as anything in season 2
season 2 wasn't as good as season 3 at all. so...I'll just go ahead and take your opinion for what it's worth.
season 2 at least had some stuff left over from the first season. This current season is unwatchable.
Spoiler Finally they have limited Peter's power. Oh wait. Not really. I didn't watch tonight's episode, and it feels good. I may have finally gotten over this show.
Its going to be bad for a few more episodes as the same head writers that ran the show into the ground were still around for this and the next 4 eps. Then when we get to episode 19 is when Bryan Fuller came back to the show. Fuller was there for the first season, but left to create Pushing Daisies. After it got canceled he went back to Heroes. Example of crappy writing: Pete told Nathan he could still fly yet when the plane is crashing he's trying so hard to not get sucked out even though he has the ability to fly.... Plus, they were pretty low to the ground, so I'm wondering why Pete was still being sucked out of the plane as if it was really high up.
I enjoyed the episode, even though it is pretty much a reset of the series. You have Sylar back to sneaking around, eluding capture. HRG is back being a total ass. I think they are setting it up to be better than the other crap from the first half although there were some things I liked. I know I like it better than anything in the recent past because I am actually looking forward to next weeks episode. I can't say I felt the same way about season 2 or the first half this year. In fact my cable was out for the finale of the first half and I still waited a week or so before I watched it on hulu.
Watch it again: Spoiler Peter says to Nathan, 'What was the last thing you saw me do?' Nathan says, 'You flew.' That's the clue - 'the last thing'. Then in the plane, Peter touches Doh-hinder and gains his power. We don't realize it at that moment, but when we see him pick up Ali's freeze-o power, he LOST his strength, which meant he also lost his flying ability when he touched Suresh. This means that YES THEY DID fix Peter - he now has a legit weakness, in that he can only have the power of whoever he touched last. So, no, it's not an example of crappy writing. This, coupled with Hiro's ability being gone, means that there should be no more story-breaking powers. Bravo! Plus, Spoiler now we have some bad guys who are not pushovers - somehow Nathan has helped develop tech that can withstand at least some of the powers used against the agents, such as being frozen. Still good to see Spoiler that Sylar is strong enough to remain the wild wildcard too. Waiting now to see how they develop Ando's power into something that can actually be used as a weapon. Should be interesting.
Overall, I wasn't too thrilled. But that my be unfair - I'm weary of how bad the show has been since S1. But a lot of that is on me - I keep wanting this show to meet its potential, and it probably doesn't have the visionaries and writers to do so. It's a B+ show, and that should be enough. I need to quit expecting this show to be on the same level as LOST, and be okay with it being a comic book show with flaws. Please as a consideration to nutjobs like myself, don't make your entire post a spoiler - no one has any idea what's within - comments about the last episode or a bonafide spoiler about upcoming events. Just toss in "my thoughts about last night" or something, if you don't mind. I'll agree it was better than the unfortunate S2. I can't say that last night restored my faith in the show, however. I'm crossing my fingers that he may make a difference. Peter seems to now be Rouge from the X-Men. He takes the power of the last person he touches. Looks like retention of that power no longer takes place. Seems like a course correction of the show - people were getting tired of him and Sylar both having over a hundred powers.
I watched all of them on DVD and S.2 and S.3 sucked so hard it was a burden just to finish them. I missed the ep last night but will give it a few shows just because I have already put in so much time.
Forgot to mention - lamest moment of the night - the weak writing bridge to make Parkman the newest Isaac Mendez. "Hey guys, do we want to still have someone drawing the future on teh show?" "I think so, it's a cool plot device" "but we've killed everyone that can do it" "we'll just intro a new character for it" "Yeah, but NBC is on us about that - apparently people are tired of the newbies" "Peter picks it up then?" "Nah, we're making him one-power-at-a-time now" "Sylar can still do it, remember?" "that's a good point - but it's out of character for him to share info with the others" "Hmmm....let's just have the African guy come back and give the powers to Parkman in a spirit dream or something" "Hey - that'll work! It's super mystic and epic, just like LOST!"
Agreed, it seemed really out of place in the episode too. Oh hey Claire look it is a picture of us. I have something sticking out of my neck. If that is the only use for it then it was really lame. I'll reserve final judgment on it until I see if they bring it back and actually make it a viable ability, but hopefully they let it rest.
I don't think the Parkman story line is that out of place. It's a way to explain how the comics come to have different styles. The artists change each time so the style changes. This being a "real-life heroes based on comic book heroes" show there needs to be someone drawing the comics.
What power will peter get when he steals sylers power? Hiro will still have a power ... I can't see dragging him around endlessly, unless him and ando have traded places. Even then, his power is not all that big of a deal. This reboot seems to be a whole lot better. Simply covering the plot holes will do the show wonders.
