I'm certainly no elite player...probably above average at best. But I would think to those elite players..it wouldn't matter playing a match, competitive or otherwise, with vehicles in it...because if you are truly an elite player, you shouldn't have any problem dispatching anyone no matter the weapon, vehicle or not. Saying vehicles are no fun because it elevates the weaker players...to me that's making excuses. Yeah any idiot can pilot a vehicle...but at the end of they he's still an idiot...should be able to find a way to trash the vehicle and kick his ass regardless. And as I said, it's pretty damn satisfying when you do. --- Maybe about halfway through the single player campaign now. I love the DMR...still would like to have the Battle Rifle too. Would rather have a DMR and Battle Rifle combo than a DMR and assault rifle/pistol. It's fun, but something still seems missing to me..can't quite put my finger on it.
I'm no expert in Halo, in fact I have played the series for a total of 2 days now, but I really disagree. For instance yesterday, as soon as the game started, someone in the other team hopped in a giant tank. They proceeded to launch missiles towards our team, wiping waves of us out. What can any skilled player possibly do? Its not like you can take them out with anything but some form of explosive which is not provided besides a grenade that cannot be thrown from one side of the map to the other and even if it could, it would not blow up a tank.
?? That's IS the same as throwing a grenade across the map and hoping it hits. You guys have a tank on your side as well and can randomly launch rounds to them as well. I doubt the dude took all of you out as you spawned the whole game. There are buttloads of weapons used to deal with the vehicles. For those claiming that they are too elite to be bothered with vehicles then you should be elite enough to take out those in them. Take it as a challenge. Your skilled with a battle riffle, I'm skilled with a banshee.
No, there was no tank on our side of the map. Did I say he took us out the whole game? I was giving an example of how a vehicle is noob friendly. If you are at any kind of distance, there is nothing you can do to prevent a vehicle attack. It doesnt matter at what point in the game it happens. Unless you find a rockets launcher on the map (there is usually a single spawning location for those) you cannot take out a vehicle unless it slows down next to you.
Well, it's not like you're helpless and everyone might as well quit. Getting away from the 'gaming tournament' realm for a second, it's like any other game; as you get experience, you learn the maps and weapon placement and what strategy works well against what. There are countermeasures to everything. Man, if you think things are that bleak and you might have to do more than just point and shoot just because there's a tank, I can see why you stick with MW2.
I've been responding to a lot of what you say negatively, not tryin to be an ass or jump on you, we just have very different viewpoints. I don't see such a huge disparity with people using vehicles. The makers of Halo put a lot into planning out their maps. If they didn't give you a tank on your side they must have given you a rocket launcher or laser or something. Unless it was a custom match, then someone might have just set it up that way.
What map were you on? I haven't played a single game yet where there was a tank that was that quickly accessed.
I don't know the names of the maps yet, and it has been the only map that I have even encountered vehicles on. It was a really big one, thats about all I can tell you.
I haven't played the Reach matchmaking, but in Halo 3 I can't think of a map with vehicles where they aren't easily taken out, or where the vehicles spawn differently on each side(Unless playing objective). Anti-Vehicle Weapons Halo 3: Plasma Grenade Plasma Pistol Missile Pods Rocket Launcher Spartan Laser Sniper Rile(You can take out Warthogs drivers/gunners and Ghost drivers) I don't know if the Laser is available in Reach, but Reach has the Plasma Launcher. Vehicles can cause problems if you play a great team, but usually the only problem with vehicles is people don't stay in cover when a team is using them. 1 Flag and Assault on Avalanche I believe is the only times in Halo 3 where only one team receives a Tank. In Reach I know it happens when you are running that mission to steal the core(or whatever its called). During the Beta I thought that whole gametype strongly favored Spartans. Here is the map from Reach's Beta that I'm talking about:
I remember playing a friend 1on1, I think it was on Coagulation from Halo 2. He'd rush to get the Banshee, so I'd either go after the rocket launcher or took cover in one of the bases and waited for him to get close and threw a plasma grenade. He tried the Scorpion too but that didn't work so well for him either. I still kicked his ass..just takes a little more thought. I like that. I like matches that are slower paced and take some thinking. Usually in team games when someone grabs the Scorpion I sneak around the edges of the map, come up behind and either stick them with grenades, or steal the vehicle and run 'em over. Honestly I'm A LOT more annoyed by games, on small maps particularly, where it's nothing but grenades, battle rifle splatter and melees.
Exactly..... It is like dodgeball who can get to the best spot with the best weapon faster than the next guy. DD
But thats the same thing for vehicles...in battlefield bad company 2...who can get to the chopper or tank first. At least with guns, there is more skill involved when it comes to shooting someone, whereas in a vehicle, you just aim in the vicinity of the player. If Im playing more skilled players, the only way I can keep up is by getting myself in a vehicle and leveling the playing field.
No way, I love the challenge of taking out the vehicles. There is a counter to everything, you just have to be good at the counter. Choppers are sitting ducks around me in BC2.....Tracer...Zook....DEAD ! DD
Exactly...so its not hard to use the vehicles or hard to take them down. In other words, in competitive gaming, all it would do is bring in an unnecessary variable into the game...a variable that isnt based on skill. All I know is that when I do get fortunate to get in a vehicle, my K/D is higher than if I were to not get in a vehicle. Its never been the other way around. Even if I get shot down after 1 kill...thats still 1 free kill. And yes, I know its not all about K/D in objective games...but kills are still the most important aspect of any game type. Kill the other team and they cant disable/plant a bomb or capture a flag. I do understand the mass appeal for vehicles...but I can also very easily see why there is no place for that in competitive play. And Im not a pro gamer, so there is really no reason for me to be biased, one way or the other.
And like I said...when I'm playing team games and someone grabs a Scorpion, I just sneak my way around the edges of the map so I can get close enough to toss some grenades or just outright steal it away. It's really not that difficult to take down a vehicle, and it adds a fun dimension and complexity to the game...for me anyways. Can you imagine making this same argument in real combat. Yeah I know, two completely different things, but a great many games try to emulate reality.
