Reach made over 200 million dollars in one day in the U.S. alone. http://blogs.forbes.com/oliverchian...videogames-first-day-sales-cross-200-million/ To put this in perspective, Halo 3 made over 300 million dollars in a week. Modern Warfare 2 sold 310 million dollars in one day on multiple consoles and multiple countries, Halo is a 360 exclusive. Reach sold 3 million copies on the first day compared to Modern Warfare 2 on the 360 which sold 2.1 copies on the first day. I can't wait to the first week sales.
WTF is with the "Racing" game and why does everyone vote for it every time? If i wanted to race, I would play a racing game. How stupid I believe 3 is the RROD
It means the Xbox is overheating, unplug all the cords in the back, and put a fan on it. It should be good after you do that for a bit. Make sure to put it in a cooler spot next time so it doesn't overheat again.
My RROD never had that before it happened and I have had 2 rings before without the RROD. Go buy one of the intercooler things for the back, I have not had any problems since i got that
Here is a good little guide in case you do get any of the red rings. http://support.xbox.com/support/en/us/Solutions/wizardhost.aspx?wizardid=frls
Don't really care, and I'm just nitpicking, but... Doesn't that article say that it sold $200M in 24 hours in the US AND Europe (not just US)? And where did the ~3M copies come from? I understand $200M/$60 = over 3M, but as the article pointed out, since there are different prices for Reach with the different SKUs ($60, $80, $250, maybe $400 for the bundle if they included that), can't really figure out how many copies were sold based solely on the revenue figure. Just wondering. Maybe it was specified elsewhere (not necessarily disputing the numbers), but just thought it was weird. I read your post, and then for more details, I read the article you linked, which seemed to say something a bit different.
Sorry, I didn't post the link for the 3 million copies. Here it is: http://www.vgchartz.com/article/82014/halo-reach-sells-over-3-million-units-in-the-first-24-hours/
This is what it says on their website, "VGChartz is internationally recognised as the number one free online source for the latest videogame industry figures and trends. Our numbers have been cited and featured by a number of leading worldwide publications such as Reuters TV, The BBC, CNN Money, The New York Times, Fortune, Business 2.0, Forbes, The New York Post, The Telegraph, The Guardian, The Times, Süddeutsche Zeitung, The Birmingham News, The Toronto Star, The Indianapolis Star, The Inquirer, NU.nl, CNet, Seeking Alpha, O’Reilly Radar, Yahoo Games and The Guinness Book of World Records." I thought they were reliable but maybe I'm wrong.
For actual, verified numbers, they're not reliable. They only really provide estimates (which they then go back and revise after getting legit numbers). Now I don't doubt that Halo Reach sold 3M copies (or whatever). But we don't know that. VGChartz doesn't know that. No one knows that, except for Microsoft and Bungie. VGChartz likes to act like they know the numbers, so then they can get referenced all the time. Maybe I'll put out a site, and post "Halo Reach surpasses 3.25M copies within 36 hours," and see how many hits I get. Wiki sort of explains it well: I've ignored them for a while, but last I checked, their numbers were WAY off, at least in the cases that relied more on their "estimates" and less on actual data. That said, they are quoted a lot, as it says on their website. That goes to show you how great video game journalism is (hint: it's not). A little bit of research, and those figures would have never been referenced. I actually used to quote them quite a bit in the past, when I didn't realize how the site worked. Though in my defense, that was when we got a lot of US data from NPD back then (um...illegally I guess), so VGChartz were more "accurate" with their estimates. I generally just stick to Wikipedia nowadays.
In that case I am sorry for posting that information on 3 million copies in the first. I did not intend to mislead you. But, I'm pretty sure the other information is true since it was on Forbes. Sorry again.
It's not your fault. VGChartz is the one doing the misleading, not you. If they made it clear that their numbers were estimates rather than official numbers, then it wouldn't be a problem. But if they did that, they wouldn't get nearly as many hits. I just know about it because I have no life and enjoy checking out video game sales numbers, so I'm pretty familiar with the site. And yeah, the other numbers should be legit. Not only were they from Forbes site, they're actually from Microsoft directly IIRC. Think they gave those figures out during TGS last night.
I missed most of the debate on vehicles...I'll give my 2 cents. Vehicles are a fun addition to multiplayer...its enjoyable and different to be able to fly around in a helicopter or ride around in a tank. However, there is no place for vehicles when it comes to competitive gaming. Vehicles do nothing but give crappy players a chance to keep up with the elite players. To be a top level player with a gun in your hand, you must have a great twitch reflex, you need to have a quick trigger finger, you need to be able to precisely control the reticle of the gun, hand-eye coordination needs to be top notch, etc... Now, any player that has the ability to do what I just mentioned can easily maneuver any vehicle in any multiplayer game. There is much more skill involved in combat with a gun than in moving a tank and shooting. It does not take much skill to control a vehicle. In other words, anybody can do it with practice. However, if you are talking about a head to head gun fight, that is a different story. This is why vehicles are not included in competitive gaming...because then the most skilled gamers may not win if they dont get control of the chopper. You're basically allowing luck to play a role in the outcome of the game. So, vehicles are fun if you just want to mess around...but if you want to play in a competitive environment or you want to play a game where skill will shine through above all else, leave the vehicles out of the picture.
I was enjoying the game, but I just got the level with the Sabres and it's really kicked up to another level. Me and a buddy are having a blast in co-op.
