Exactly a gaming elitist. I am glad you won some championships, that means you spend a great deal of time playing games. Again, you are speaking from an elitist perspective, no one, let me repeat, NO ONE, makes games for a small section of people, whether they are Elitist or not.....and playing games is fun, but I personally believe that playing them competitively is silly. But to each his own I guess. Not many girls at those events, BTW.... DD
I don't play final fantasy. I have the utmost respect for people who play fighting games competitively, I've gone to a few tournaments with teammates who compete. They get really hype. I think fighting games take just as much skill as first person shooters; I just choose to compete in FPS. That definitely doesn't mean that's all I'm good at (I play everything else in between -- just about. Especially Rock band / Guitar hero/NBA 2K10 as of late.)
This is truly my final reply to you. I never stated companies should make games catered to a niche market (the one I'm in). I know a good deal about game development, I'd like to do it one day. My point was you don't know what makes a game skillful or not; and it's painfully obvious. I have fun doing it, it's a hobby and I've made money doing it. It isn't my job. Have you ever been to one? That may have been true in the past. I'm not going there to meet a girl, I'm going to compete. Is that really the best argument you have? There's no girls there? Somehow I doubt you'd be picking one up whether they were there or not.
I've played a lot of Final Fantasy over the years. I'm not a fan of competitive gaming. The trash talking that goes on is just ridiculous.
DD, just calm down. You shouldn't have come barreling into this thread claiming he has no idea what takes skill in video games when he has competed at the top level of gaming. This is not your area of expertise, you develop video games and he plays them competitively. I think he knows a little bit more about being skillful in a game.
Oh dear god ! You do realize that the game designers develop the games to cater to skills etc. Look, whatever....I deleted my last post (and RRJ had to go back back back to find the post - weaksauce RRJ) because it is pointless to try to explain what I know to people who think they know. We design games to cater to the competitive nature of human beings, particularly boys aged 12-30.....but what the heck do I know, I only make my living doing it. It is ok though, competitve gamers are the addicts we sell our add ons, and micro transactions and game gear to....it is all good. Back on topic, Halo reach is a very very good game. DD
This thread... DD > Seclusion Is it just coincidence that you are a super-rage-hardcore gamer and your name is Seclusion?
Wait wait wait hol up hol up. First weren't you the guy who said there was no skill involved in Halo, you just run and melee? And skipping out on games because u read that it had vehicles is silly. Just don't play on large maps or with vehicles...how does a game not even giving you an option for a large map make it perfect???
why buy a game if there are only a few maps without vehicles? Why waste the money if you are not gonna enjoy it. There is a reason a game like Modern Warfare 2 is far more popular than a game like Battlefield Bad Company.
Both are insanely popular, sometimes the answer to your question above is simply marketing. Halo has never been one of the top overall games IMO, just marketed like mad, and people want to be with the in crowd... Not saying it sucks, but it is not as good as a lot of other less popular games....but again, just my .02. One last thing....MW2 is an individual game, whereas BC2 is more team oriented...they share the FPS and some game types, but they are vastly different in game play. DD
I agree Halo is a good game, but overrated imo. But another thing Halo has working in its favor is the genre. There are a ton of Modern Warfare and WWII games, but I cannot think of another mainstream future warfare game (besides Gears of War which is not an FPS, but is a better game imo). And I don't have the numbers or know where to find them, but I am willing to bet far more people are playing MF2. When BC2 first came out, the people on my friends list were split about even, but after a month or so, everyone went back to MW2.
I feel like it after reading this thread. It's not a leap to call you a pwning, hardcore, rage gamer, right? If not, you are certainly coming off like that. Can I see your video game "competitor" resumé again?
MW2 has had several map packs, and that gets people to stay on board, it is one of Dice's biggest flaws they rarely do true map packs...drives me nuts, they are leaving so much $$$$ on the table it is silly. DD
rough day at work and I'm looking forward to getting home hoping that Halo Reach has arrived in the mail. I get home to the news that Halo Reach arrived, but look at the xbox and it has two red rings. nnnaaarrrggghhh!!!
